Review ~ Kindred – A Graphic Novel Adaptation ~ Octavia Butler, Damian Duffy, John Jennings

Review ~ Kindred – A Graphic Novel Adaptation ~ Octavia Butler, Damian Duffy, John Jennings

I read the graphic novel adaptation of Kindred at the request of my daughter, Berk. She read it at the beginning of her freshman year of college (2019) and was so moved by it she wanted to share. I was equally moved by it and I intend to read the novel now as well. The story told in Kindred – that of a black woman being continually pulled back in time to save her white ancestor – translated well as a graphic novel. The illustrations superbly conveyed the setting, mood, and emotion of the story and characters. I don’t feel qualified to discuss the finer details of a graphic novel since this is only the third one I’ve ever read […]

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Veiled Vixen ~ KC Cross

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Veiled Vixen ~ KC Cross

Veiled Vixen was an adrenaline-pumping read and not because it was action-packed. No, this installment had revelation after revelation which made me question everything I thought I knew about this series. I know, right? Those revelations made my head spin. But they also made me understand just how little I actually knew, if you know what I mean. Veiled Vixen is told solely from Valor’s POV, excepting Interludes with a few characters. Do you think this was done intentionally so that we could see Veila, and everything currently going on, from his perspective? Yes, I definitely think it was so that we could see how Valor picked up on things, and what he thought about everything. And also, so that […]

#OctobeRec Fest Review #3 ~ Alien Mate ~ Cara Bristol

#OctobeRec Fest Review #3 ~ Alien Mate ~ Cara Bristol

Welcome to OctobeRec Fest. I started this as a nod to Oktoberfest (books & beer…heaven, am I right?!?) so I’ll spending the month of October reading a few of the many, many books I’ve procured thanks to you, my blogging friends. Title: Alien Mate Author: Cara Bristol Recommended by: Sophia Rose @Delighted Reader and Melanie @Hot Listens Alien Mate is a book I’d not have picked up without a recommendation from a trusted blogging friend. It sounded kinda cheesy if I was judging by the title but if Sophia Rose and Melanie thought it was worthwhile I figured I’d give it a try. Thanks, ladies, you didn’t steer me wrong. 😉 Highlights: Plot I appreciated the premise for the story – […]

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Lady Luck ~ KC Cross

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Lady Luck ~ KC Cross

Lady Luck upped the suspense a notch or twenty. This series keeps getting better and better. I was excited for Luck’s story and Cross didn’t disappoint. She gave Luck his perfect match in Nyleena and she game just enough clues to have me thinking I might just have some of the answers. Of course, I’m probably wrong. 😉 I loved how the suspense got better, and that while we definitely got answers, we got a lot more questions, too! Ha! I always think I have figured something out, only to realize in the next book that’s not exactly how things were… that’s part of what makes this series so good, though. I thought it was interesting that Nyleena had such a […]

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Big Dicker ~ KC Cross

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Big Dicker ~ KC Cross

I think I might have enjoyed Big Dicker even more, wifey Jimmy is a hoot! And Delphi is a good match for him. 😉 I definitely enjoyed this one more. So funny, and I loved how nobody manages to pronounce his name correctly. It makes me giggle every single time! First, I just want to say that I thought it was awesome Xyla was getting a girl’s vacay! I admire the fact that Jimmy and his brothers see the bots as “people” who have rights and deserve respect. I don’t know if Cross is making a statement there but I like that anti-discrimination/prejudice is such an integral element anyway. What do you think? I love that bots are seen as […]

Review ~ Polaris Rising ~ Jessie Mihalik

Review ~ Polaris Rising ~ Jessie Mihalik

Polaris Rising is an incredibly impressive debut. Space opera isn’t a genre I read much of but this book was un-put-downable! The world building was excellent, the character development was awesome, the plot, sub-plots, and what I assume will be the over-arching story plot created such an entertaining read. I liked it all! 😉 Highlights: Characters Ada was just the kind of kickass heroine I adore. She gave up a life of luxury – she’s a daughter of one of the ruling Houses in the ‘verse – on principle. See, Ada didn’t agree with being sold into marriage. She’s held a variety of jobs since leaving home and she’s currently a mercenary. It’s just that she’s a mercenary who’s been […]

Blogger Wife New Release Chat Review ~ Booty Hunter ~ KC Cross (JA Huss)

Blogger Wife New Release Chat Review ~ Booty Hunter ~ KC Cross (JA Huss)

I have to admit, wifey, I had a great time with Booty Hunter. The characters were awesome, it was funny, it was suspenseful, and it was HOT! Good times all around. 😉 I agree, wifey! The humor actually had me laughing out loud more than once! I loved Harem Station, because what a novel place to include in a story, right? Especially as the story unfolded and things weren’t exactly as they seemed. In the beginning, I was trying too hard to compare this to Huss’ Junco series. I hate that I do that – compare – but I couldn’t seem to help it. Anyway, once I stopped comparing and let Booty Hunter be its own thing, I really got […]

Audio Review ~ The Protector ~ Elin Peer

Audio Review ~ The Protector ~ Elin Peer

The synopsis for The Protector essentially reeled me in. I mean, a world ruled by women? You can understand my curiosity, right? And EPeer didn’t disappoint me. Highlights: Premise/Plot EPeer did an excellent job of creating this futuristic world where women rule, crime is virtually non-existent, men are docile, and peace abounds. She illustrated how the world came to be as it is with an inventive history and present. With the exception of the Northlands, the world lives by a “we” mentality rather than “us versus them.” When Christina goes to the Northlands, both she and Bolder learn a lot about each other’s cultures, their misconceptions and that not everything about the other’s world is bad. Characters Christina and Bolder […]

Series Review: The Illuminae Files – Amie Kaufmann and Jay Kristoff

Series Review: The Illuminae Files – Amie Kaufmann and Jay Kristoff

Beware readers! I am reviewing all three books in one go. There may be spoilers from books 1 and 2 in the review of book 3.  When Illuminae was first released, it was one of those immense buzz-books from the get-go. Remember? I was excited about it, too, and I bought the book as soon as was possible. Then, I left it on my shelf. Until I went to BEA in 2016, where I got an advanced copy of Gemina… which I also put on my shelf once I returned home. See a pattern here? The books appealed to me, but I just kind of didn’t get to them. Until one of my favorite authors told me that her co-author […]

#ARC #Review: Anarchy Chained – J.A. Huss

#ARC #Review: Anarchy Chained – J.A. Huss

Anarchy Chained is quite the finale to the SuperAlpha series! So much was going on, and the wicked twists and turns were out of this world – literally! Anarchy Chained was such a wicked trip! I am still trying to catch my breath, get my wits about me and make my heartbeat slow back down! Huss is a master at mind-fucks! She really, really is. And with this story, she took it even further than usual in my opinion. At the beginning, I was a bit lost, and I continued to feel like the story was a couple of paces ahead of me for most of the time, and it was truly thrilling to never guess a single thing that […]
