What happens when the cute mountain man you made out with in an ice fishing shack turns out to be your brother’s best friend?
A whole lot of awkward, that’s what.
Maggie’s mind is reeling when she discovers the guy she became tangled up with at Marv’s Bait & Tackle isn’t a stranger like she thought.
The big snag: Sam and Maggie’s chemistry is hot enough to melt ice, which makes keeping their secret far more difficult than either expected.
Especially when one of them decides they want this arrangement to be more than just a catch and release.
I think I loved Next in Line even more than Wait With Me! There were plenty of laughs, of course, but there was something about Maggie that resonated with me. Witnessing the romance between her and Sam blossom was moving as well as humorous and HOT!
Maggie is in Boulder on a mission. She wants to be more adventurous…to find her inner-explorer. This mission was spurred by her boyfriend calling her basic and breaking up with her. On Christmas Day. Anyway, she finds herself at a bait shop because nothing says adventurous like…ice fishing. 😉 Luckily, she happens upon a handsome guy who not only defends her honor but also agrees to serve as her guide.
Sam is nothing if not goal-oriented. He’s been working tirelessly to take over his uncle’s business. And, due to a painful family past, he has no interest in ever having more than one-night stands with women. Then he meets this firecracker of a girl, in the bait shop of all places. They really hit it off, so it’s rather unfortunate when Sam learns that Maggie is his best friend’s little sister.
I think Next in Line worked even better for me because of the emotional growth of Maggie and Sam. Maggie was constantly trying to be everything to those she loves and always feeling like she never quite measured up. Sam carried the weight of things gone wrong with his parents never realizing he had no control over the situation nor was he ever going to be like his father. The romance between these two was a joy to watch unfold especially because of how they each learned about themselves as they fell in love.
Of course, getting to see Miles and Kate was also wonderful. I appreciated how ADaws let us see how they’re doing now as well as incorporating them into Maggie and Sam’s story. Up next is One Moment Please and I can’t wait!
