Review: Scandalous Beat – Michelle Mankin

Scandalous Beat beautifully wraps up the Tempest series. I have to say, Mankin somehow always ups the ante, and I was mesmerized by the characters, their stories, and the slow, beautiful romance. Story: There was even more action and suspense in Scandalous Beat than in the prior Tempest books, and I have to say that Juaquin and Miriam really worked for me. Both in the prologue when they were teens, and in the actual story when they were in their twenties. Miriam was a strong-willed young woman, and she lived her life on her own terms. His Convenient Husband is more than a romance, as the story shows how difficult it can be to be in the spotlight. How queer people get dragged into fights they need to fight not just for themselves, but for others as well. Story: I enjoyed His Convenient Husband a lot! Lucas’ story was a bit frustrating at times, both because Stephanie was so closed off, and because it stopped rather abruptly – only to go straight to a kind of epilogue including Van rather than either Lucas or Stephanie. Story: Lucas was a story I had really looked forward to, so it might be that my expectations were a bit high. Cold Fury Hockey is one of my favorite series, and Bennett usually manages to sweep me off my feet immediately. Cherish Hard brought me some very down-to-earth characters, they were fiercely loyal, had strong hearts, and were willing to take a big chance in order to have love in their lives.
