Review: Scored – Sloane Howell

Review: Scored – Sloane Howell

Scored follows a baseball star and a hot indie records store seller, they have met more than once through their best friends, and their chemistry is sizzling hot. Story: Kelsey and Matt showed up in Bossed, and I enjoyed them immensely as side characters. Somehow, I enjoyed them a little less as main characters in Scored. I think it was because both of them kept second-guessing themselves quite a bit, and while I can understand some of that, it also kind of got old. Matt really liked Kelsey from the first time he met her, but he had no idea they had even more in common than what came to light when they were out with Ethan and Jenny. Scored […]

Weekend Wrap-up #211 – And There Was Darkness

Weekend Wrap-up #211 – And There Was Darkness

Weekend Wrap-up is where I share my new books, as well as what happened here at (un)Conventional Bookviews and elsewhere in the blogoshpere. I’m linking up with the usual suspects, AKA Team Tynga’s Reviews and Caffeinated Reviewer. STS #211 Stacking The Shelves, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality is all about the latest additions to my library – virtual or actual, with books that are  bought, borrowed, won or ARCs  I will (probably) be reading soon. Without further ado, here’s what I added to my bloated shelves this past week: And, for the first time ever, there were NO new arrivals of books. I’m not sure how that happened, but it did. The Sunday Post #161 – Weekend Wrap-up Kim @ The Caffeinated Reviewer, […]

Review: The Rules of Magic – Alice Hoffman

Review: The Rules of Magic – Alice Hoffman

The Rules of Magic is a melancholy tale, spanning over the sixties and up until the present time, following three siblings who had to follow some very strict rules when they were young. Story: I enjoyed The Rules of Magic both because it is a great story that can stand on its own, and because it brought some important insight into the world of Practical Magic. Hofmann manages to write magical realism so well it seems completely legitimate, and I found myself rooting for the three siblings, even when what they were up to put them and others in grave danger. Breaking the rules became second nature to all three siblings after they spent a summer with their aunt. Because […]

Review: Half Past – Victoria Helen Stone

Review: Half Past – Victoria Helen Stone

Half Past is a story of resilience and hope, of finding oneself during a midlife crisis, and coming out on the other side ever stronger. Story: Hannah was able to carry Half Past on her own, even if she needed other people in her quest for the truth, she was self-sufficient, and stronger than she thought. I felt like someone hit me at the very beginning of the story, because even if her mother was suffering from dementia, what she said to Hannah has to have hurt. A lot. And then, when her two older sisters arrived, they weren’t exactly understanding of her predicament. After Hannah found out her mother wasn’t her biological mother, even if her name was on […]

Review: Mr. and Mrs. – JA Huss

Review: Mr. and Mrs. – JA Huss

Mr. and Mrs. is the perfect ending to the Mister series, it was fun, a little mysterious and a lot romantic. I got to see my favorite Five in his element. Story: First of all, if you have not read the whole Mister series, plus Five, you should not continue reading this review, as there will be spoilers for prior books in here. Mr. and Mrs. happened on Five’s private island, and all the misters showed up for a group wedding. We got to know what Five and Rory have been up to since the ending of Five, and I loved seeing them happy with their four daughters. They were princesses in their own right, and I had so much […]

It was so nice to see them all again! The Sunday Post #160 – Weekend Wrap-up […]

Review: Right Where We Belong – Brenda Novak

Review: Right Where We Belong – Brenda Novak

Right Where We Belong brought me right back to Silver Springs, where I followed the complicated romance between Savanna and Gavin. There was quite a bit of suspense surrounding them, and that wasn’t the only thing working against them. Story: Savanna has been through a lot since her husband was arrested for several rapes. When people in the community turned against her, she figured she had to move so she and her children wouldn’t encounter any more people screaming at her for standing by him at the beginning. Right Where We Belong then continues away from Utah, and unfolds mostly in Silver Springs. Characters: Savanna is a strong woman, who will do what she thinks is right, even when the […]

Safe and Sexy #27 – Holiday Wishes

Safe and Sexy #27 – Holiday Wishes

Safe and Sexy #27 Thinking of my romances and safe sex at the same time started when I wrote my discussion post with the same name a long time ago! Not too long after, the idea of sharing quotes about that ensured that the feature Safe and Sexy was born. It’s where I will share a quote from a story I have read, and where there is a lot of hotness and sexiness, but where they still take the time to be safe! It’s important to me to read books that make me dream, but I also want them to be somewhat realistic. And to me, characters seem realistic when they take care of themselves and their partner(s)! Safe sex is […]

Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts #133 – The Bone Witch

Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts #133 – The Bone Witch

Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts #133 Welcome to Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts, an original weekly meme hosted here at (un)Conventional Bookviews. So many of the books I read have food or drinks in them, some I’d love to try, and others I’d never ever want to taste… and I thought it could be interesting and fun to share some food and / or drink quotes…  If you want to participate, you can grab my logo if you’d like, or you can make your own, but please link back to me in your own post. The idea of Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts is to share a quote with food or drinks that showed up in a recent read, as well […]
