Weekend Wrap-up #316 – Almost Time for Vacation

Posted 20 June, 2020 by Linda @ (un)Conventional Bookworms in Memes, Wrap-up Posts / 36 Comments

Weekend Wrap-up is where I share my new books, as well as what happened here at (un)Conventional Bookworms and elsewhere in the blogoshpere. I’m linking up with the usual suspects, AKA Team Tynga’s Reviews and Caffeinated Reviewer.

Sorry I’ve been so absent lately, I have just had a very hard time dealing with my feelings concerning Black Lives Matter, and now I have found ways that I can help, so I’m feeling more like myself again.

STS #315

Stacking The Shelves, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality is all about the latest additions to my library – virtual or actual, with books that are  bought, borrowed, won or ARCs  I will (probably) be reading soon. Without further ado, here’s what I added to my bloated shelves this past week:

The Sunday Post #255 – Weekend Wrap-up

Kim @ The Caffeinated Reviewer, is our hostess with the mostest for the weekly Sunday Post where I’m wrapping things up. It is the perfect opportunity to share what happened here on my own blog, as well as some of the happenings elsewhere in the Blogosphere.

The school year is winding down, I just have a meeting with my middle school students on Monday to hand back material they had borrowed during the year, and I have a couple of meetings, but after next week (which is definitely a much lighter week!) it’s vacation time! We haven’t planned on going anywhere for the time being, as we’re still checking Covid-19 statistics. We might just stay here at home, but we’ll have time off to spend together and relax.

This Week’s Puppies in Action:

Hercules was totally playing it up for this pic! <3
Freddy is less keen on having his pic taken, but he’s still too cute for words <3

Did you get some good books last week? What have you been up to this past week? Thanks for stopping by, I hope you’re enjoying your weekend, and that next week will be filled with awesome! Stay safe and healthy <3

  1. I’ve had to step back from my computer for a bit because of the goings on in the world too… I’m glad you’ve found the ways you can help. I’m still trying to work it out.

Summer holidays seem so very far away for us right now. I’m not making any plans and am going to wing it depending on what’s going on with Covid at the time. I’m determined to have a nice summer but I’m just acknowledging that it won’t be a typical summer for us…

Enjoy your books! I grabbed the first book in the Rock F*ck Club this week. 🙂

    • Yeah, it’s been really hard to continue to function more or less normally. I hope you’ll feel more like yourself soon, too, Nicci.

We’re feeling the same way, we are definitely going to have a nice summer, but it’s going to be different from what we’re used to.

      I hope you’ll enjoy Rock F*ck Club!

Yay for the vacation! I’m still needing to plan one myself, but yeah, COVID has really messed things up. I’m still not sure if one festival I like to attend is happening or not so I’d hate to book a cheap flight for it now and not have it happen in the fall. I’m hoping the fall events I’ve attended in the past might happen. Or at least one so I can have some sort of mini vacation. Lol.

Nice new reads. I rather liked Kim’s new book! It was a wee bit hard getting back into the series since it picks up almost seamlessly from where it left off and that was a couple of years ago and several hundred books ago as well. I still liked it! I think I gave it 4.5 stars instead of my usual 5.

I hope you enjoy all the lovely new reads!

My StS will be up tomorrow, so stop by then if you can!

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

    • I’ve just started reading American Demon right now, and yeah, it’s been a while since I hung out with Rachel, Ivy, Jenks and Trent… So far so good, though.
I hope your festival will happen this fall, even if everything is up in the air right now.
      Enjoy your weekend, Jessica!

Yea for summer vacation! I just picked up Love-40 by Olivia Dade and so far, I’m enjoying it. I just love her writing style and storytelling.

  4. Sophia Rose

I think we’re all in processing mode and where to go from here.
Glad work is coming to a close for you and you and your family can spend some time together this summer.
    Nice book haul!

    Have a good week, Linda!

  5. So nice you will be finished soon and have vacation to relax and reflect as needed. We aren’t going anywhere. I am also processing everything and trying to make things better rather than worse. Yay for puppies. I enjoyed American Demon quite a lot. Happy reading!

Anne – Books of My Heart Here is my Sunday Post

  6. I enjoyed The Player Next Door. I’m going to read your review next. And I always love doing your dogs. So cute. Well at least it’s a vacation even if you stay home. What we used call stay-cation. I missed my trip home this year to Ky and I haven’t been there for over a year and a half. I used to go twice a year but we all need to stay safe. Life really sucks right now doesn’t it? Well, try and enjoy whatever you end up doing!

    • I really enjoyed it, too, Lorna! I’m a sucker for second chance at love romances 🙂
Even a stay-cation will be excellent now, and we have a nice place, with lots of places we can go for walks.
      Thanks for stopping by!

  7. AW those pictures are awesome! Your dogs always take great pics. 🙂 And have fun on your vacation, whether you stay home or end up going somewhere. We’re being careful too, everyone here seems to be thinking the Covid thing is just “over” but it’s not and we’re still limiting going out and all that. Well not everyone is acting that way but it feels that way sometimes, with so many people going no masks and everything.

Anyway hope your week is a good one!

    • Thank you Greg! I love sharing them in my wrap-up posts, it’s tradition now!
I am pretty sure Covid-19 is NOT over yet, so we keep being careful for sure. I don’t want to get sick after staying home for over two months.
      Thanks for stopping by.

  8. I’ve been officially on break for the last couple of weeks. I had to go into my school early this week to help supervise the return of materials/locker clean out, but it was just for a couple of hours. The doggies are adorable! Happy reading!

  9. It is so weird that we are so close to summer vacation with kids out of school since mid march and now only back for a few weeks to get some stuff done there. No vacation feeling in sight but I hope that will change. Happy reading and thank you for the wonderful pictures.

    • I just never stopped, and frankly, with online teaching, I was working more hours than usual. It takes more time to create lessons that can be done online with a phone, tablet or computer. I’m exhausted, and I can’t wait to have time off 🙂
I hope you’ll get your vacation feeling soon, Vi 🙂

It’s Winter Holidays here in South Africa, or actually only for some schools as the schools are still under Lock Down.

I hope you get to enjoy your holidays and have time for reading and relaxing.

    Here’s my Sunday Post

  11. Tanya Atkinson

Vacation sounds heavenly about now… whether you go somewhere or not. Just down time at home, relaxing, sounds good. I hope that last week or so of school goes smoothly. I’m so excited for The Playre Next Door. Tucker is one of my favorites. 🙂

  12. It has certainly been a strange year! I can’t even visualize a vacation, since I have been on lockdown since March 11…and it will continue indefinitely, I’m sure. We are getting out in the facility a bit more, and eating in the dining room on alternate days.

Enjoy those great looking books…and the puppies, so cute! Thanks for visiting my blog.

  13. Lol… that is SUCH an old fashioned look Freddy is giving you:)). Glad you have a break coming up – so do we, but other than hoping to get together with our bubble family to celebrate birthdays, we are not planning on going anywhere much. Have a great week, Linda.

  14. Gayathri Lakshminarayanan

Oh I am glad you will be having a much lighter week and then a vacation soon. But i really hope you will stay in and stay home.

    • I have been working as usual since May 11th (in the classroom with the kids, and also seeing other teachers), but I’m always careful. There’s definitely a big chance we’ll be staying home, even if there is no more lockdown in Switzerland now. We didn’t stay home for two months only to get sick now, you know?
Thanks for stopping by Gayathri 🙂

  15. Maureen Bakker

I’m so sorry to read you’ve been struggling a bit. I totally get why! It has been a hard couple of months, and when you’re looking at the news nowadays things only seem to get worse.

I really hope you’ll be able to enjoy your vacation and get to relax a bit. I just read the new K.A. Tucker book and loved it.

    Happy reading!

We’re almost halfway into 2020 and there is so much going on. Bloggers have a pretty powerful platform, and sometimes it takes a tremendous amount of courage to talk about things that are uncomfortable or unpopular. Bravo and major kudos to you for mentioning BLM. Change – no matter what it may be, starts with a conversation, and I thank you so very much! Hugs, RO
