Review ~ At Any Price ~ Brenna Aubrey #RAREParis

Review ~ At Any Price ~ Brenna Aubrey #RAREParis

At Any Price took on a trope that’s not a favorite of mine – a girl selling her virginity – but put an interesting spin on it. Then BAubrey created a cast of characters I enjoyed and invested in as well as delivered a story with a romance that was entertaining. Mia is a student, hoping to go to medical school, but needing some extra funding. To make ends meet, she works at a hospital but she’s also a blogger. She reviews games – one game in particular – on her blog and makes money from ads. So in her spare time, she’s a gamer. I liked Mia although she frustrated me at times. She’s a girl who lives by […]

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Breaking Away ~ Toni Aleo #RAREParis

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Breaking Away ~ Toni Aleo #RAREParis

As you may or may not know, Denise and I are traveling to Europe in late March to visit Lexxie and to attend RAREParis. In an attempt to prepare, at least for RARE, the three of us decided to buddy read books from RARE authors. This is the first of our chat reviews for this amazing list of authors! FYI – Breaking Away is currently #free!   Brandee: Breaking Away was a great introduction to the series despite it being #6 in the Nashville Assassins series. TAleo never made me feel as if I was missing something while at the same time making me curious enough about the other characters to want to go back and read from the beginning. […]

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ The Cutting Edge ~ CD Reiss

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ The Cutting Edge ~ CD Reiss

The Cutting Edge served to prove how adept at writing compelling stories Reiss is. She not only put me in a combat hospital in Balad by drawing images to vivid they were visceral, she also drew characters I’m completely invested in. This is my first series by Reiss, and I just don’t understand why I waited so long! I agree – those images were visceral, and the characters hooked me very quickly! I admit to going into The Cutting Edge blind, wifey. Reiss is an auto-buy so I didn’t even remember/know what the story was about when I started it. However, she gripped me immediately and didn’t let go. She delivered a compelling, at times gut-wrenching, at times humorous, at […]

Review ~ Fixed on You ~ Laurelin Paige

Review ~ Fixed on You ~ Laurelin Paige

I think I’m glad I didn’t read Fixed on You when it first released because I remember the hype surrounding it and I think it would have ruined Hudson and Laynie’s story for me. Having distance from all that, I enjoyed meeting them and having their story revealed without the hype influencing me. Laynie and Hudson are interesting characters. While I can’t relate to their issues, I can relate to them as two people trying to heal and be better people than they’ve been in the past…two people trying to evolve and move on. Laynie is winning at making herself better. She’s been in therapy and has a shiny, new MBA with plans on how she’ll use it. Hudson, on […]

Review: Love You So Hard – Tara Lain

Review: Love You So Hard – Tara Lain

Love You So Hard is a cute, short read about Craig and Jessie, and how Craig needed some encouragement to be more confident. Love You So Hard is a short, hot read, and knowing that it started with a photo and a prompt in the Goodreads M/M group makes feel all kind of awe for Ms. Lain here! There was both humour and hotness here, and part of the action was set in Laguna Beach, which makes me wonder if that’s how Love in Laguna started… As the story in Love You So Hard is only 76 pages, there is very little character development, and that’s why I gave it three stars rather than four. It’s still quite a feat […]

Review: Me Before You – Jojo Moyes

Review: Me Before You – Jojo Moyes

Me Before You is an emotional read, in which Lou finds herself, and Will makes a decision that can’t be taken back! This was a buddy read with Brandee @ Bookworm Brandee, and part of my review below is our chatting about it. Me Before You is not only the story about Will, how he copes with being a quadriplegic, and how hard it is for him to depend on other people for every single thing he wants or needs to do. It is also the story of Lou, of finding herself, of figuring out what she wants to do with her life. Of living, rather than just existing. To be honest, I think I found Lou’s journey to be […]

Review: Obsidian – Jennifer L. Armentrout

Review: Obsidian – Jennifer L. Armentrout

Obsidian was a little confusing in places, and I was quite frustrated with Katy because of her suffering from something very close to insta-love/lust when it came to Daemon. She said he was a jerk, but then she went all googly-eyed at the thought of him anyway. My Obsidian review: There are many tropes in young adult novels – and sadly most of those I don’t really enjoy – that were present in Obsidian. More or less absent parents, as Katy’s father had died, and her mother worked a lot, it was almost as if Katy lived on her own. Also, Katy was really the girl-next-door, at least in her own mind, and so Daemon’s attention, even when he was […]

Review: Magic Bleeds – Ilona Andrews

Review: Magic Bleeds – Ilona Andrews

Magic Bleeds features many fights and plenty of heartache and I completely and utterly loved it all! My Magic Bleeds review: Kate Daniels is one of the best kick-ass heroines I’ve had the pleasure to read, and she confirmed this in Magic Bleeds! She is strong, dedicated, loyal and fierce. She is also a woman who would love to be a part of something bigger, have someone to love, and someone who loves her – just for her. Of course Saiman is making life difficult for Kate, just because he wants to make life difficult for Curran, but Kate outsmarts Saiman this time, and the hotness that ensues made my kindle fume, at least I think so, because my glasses […]

Review: Samson’s Lovely Mortal – Tina Folsom

Review: Samson’s Lovely Mortal – Tina Folsom

Samson’s Lovely Mortal is a nice mix of UF, paranormal / vampire love story and mystery. I enjoyed Samson and Aumory a lot, Delilah grew on me. My Samson’s Lovely Mortal review: I have had Samson’s Lovely Mortal on my kindle for a very long time, hidden among other gems I got for free when I first started figuring out there were many other genres out there than I was used to reading. While I have now read quite a few paranormal / urban fantasy love stories, in which vampires and humans kind of intermingle, often without the humans knowledge of everything that is ‘other’, this was quite new for me at the time I picked up this story. While […]

Review: Make it a Double – Sawyer Bennett

Review: Make it a Double – Sawyer Bennett

Make it a Double is at least as hot and amazing as the first story in this series! I could not put it down at all! Hot alpha hero and an amazingly sweet and tender heroine for the win! My Make it a Double review: Just as I thought Hunter’s name was perfect in On the Rocks, Brody’s name did the same thing in Make it a Double. Brooding, distant and silent, Brody was keeping life at arm’s length in order to not be entangled in anything at all that could make him feel. After spending five years in prison for vehicular man slaughter. Once he’s back home, difficulties to adjust is only the start, he has trouble with a […]
