Review: Seven Sons – Lili St. Germain

Review: Seven Sons – Lili St. Germain

Seven Sons is definitely very dark, but the fact that Julz / Sammie is such a kick-ass heroine, one who will do whatever it takes to get her revenge made it a great story anyway. My Seven Sons review: They say revenge should be something deliciously cold (in French, the saying is: La vengeance est un plat qui se mange froid) however, Seven Sons showed me that revenge can definitely be hot, too. Sammie’s hatred is what has gotten her through life for the past few years, planning on how to kill the man who killed her father, after making him suffer as she picked off his sons… The ones who destroyed her life, and made her think there is […]

Review: The Fallen Star – Jessica Sorensen

Review: The Fallen Star – Jessica Sorensen

Very, very slow-moving story, the characters are not very well developed, and the writing is full of repetitions. The Fallen Star could have told the same story exactly in only 150 pages, and then be the introduction to the series, rather than a full-length novel where nothing much happened in the first 70-75%. Not sure I’ll continue with this one. My The Fallen Star review: The premise for The Fallen Star is so good, unfortunately, I didn’t think the story delivered. Gemma was an annoying heroine, even when taking into account the fact that she has lived most of her life without having any feelings at all. Her swooning over Alex made me roll my eyes more than once, and […]

Review: In Too Deep – Kathryn Shay

Review: In Too Deep – Kathryn Shay

In Too Deep is short and to the point, with romance, hotness, firefighters and a good enough story. My In Too Deep review: If you are able to keep up with the suspension of disbelief, In Too Deep might work even better for you than it did for me. The story is quite good, and the characters are definitely enchanting enough, there is also an outside plot, which sadly wasn’t fully developed. Rachel and Gabe have been in love with each other for a while, but they have been keeping their distance for several reasons. First of all he’s the boss, and as firefighters, they need to be able to keep their heads cool in all the dangerous situations they get […]

Review: NightDrake – Lara Adrian

Review: NightDrake – Lara Adrian

NightDrake is a short, but intense story, in which Nisha finds herself. My NightDrake review: For such a short story, NightDrake certainly didn’t lack in intensity, however it did lack in character development and world-building. This is to be expected, though, but I did find myself rolling my eyes when Drakor and Nisha professed their love for each other as soon as a couple of hours after meeting. Nisha was a mercenary, and her nick-name was The Heartless, however, as soon as she realized there was a living being inside the crate she was transporting, she went out of her way to help the monster inside, even if she was a self-professed hater of The Strange. From the little I […]

Review: Closure – John Lescroart and M.J. Rose

Review: Closure – John Lescroart and M.J. Rose

Closure is a very short story, like an introduction to a new author, if you will. My Closure mini-review Closure is not exactly the most unexpected story I have ever read, but for the twenty-five pages it lasted, I was definitely into Lucy and what she was up to. From the way she made her therapist nervous, to the way she worked to find the painter she had so admired when she was a child. Written in first person past tense, from the unnamed therapist’s point of view, I got a good sense of Lucy, as well as  Frank Millay, and the flow was nicely done.  For the parts of the story when the therapist wasn’t present, the third person […]

Review: Dancing with the Duke – Suzanna Medeiros

Review: Dancing with the Duke – Suzanna Medeiros

Dancing with the Duke is a short, sweet historical romance that whetted my appetite for more of the Landing a Lord series. My Dancing with the Duke review: With only 60 pages, Dancing with the Duke is a very short and quick read, but it still managed to have some tension, romance and a few misunderstandings over the span of the story. As usual when I read a novella, I really wish this story was a little longer, because it seems to me that both Alex and Charlotte are characters worth getting to know much better than Dancing with the Duke allowed for. The setting was great, the London season, and Charlotte was there to find a husband – but […]

Review: More than Friends – Aria Grace

Review: More than Friends – Aria Grace

More than Friends is a short story, in which Ryan figures out he might like guys a lot more than he previously thought. My More than Friends review: More than Friends is quite well written, but I had a little trouble with Ryan’s complete turn-about that happened so quickly. At the beginning of the story, he’s a little sad because he and his girlfriend Brooke broke up, so he kind of hooks up with a girl in a bar, and comes with her to her cousin’s, Zach, place. He falls asleep on the coach, while she goes into a bedroom all alone. The next day, he is invited back to Zach’s for a party, and he is a little uneasy […]

Review: Dane – Liliana Hart

Review: Dane – Liliana Hart

Dane is extremely hot, but also extremely short, so the story felt a little hurried.  My Dane review: Dane has so much hotness it’s impossible not to feel the heat while reading, and the erotic scenes were very well executed. However, the fact that the story was so short made it less good than it could have been – especially because it involves one of my all-time favorite romance tropes: second chances! Sadly, it also includes one of my top pet peeves, the one where a couple has sex without using a condom. Even if they had been involved before, that was ten years ago, and they had no way to know if the other person had a sexually transmitted […]

Review: Ruin – C.J. Scott

Review: Ruin – C.J. Scott

Ruin is a quick read, and the characters are quite well done for such a short story. My Ruin review: Kate and Ben met by chance in Winter’s only diner, and all Kate could think about from the start of Ruin was how hot she thought Ben was. Kate’s best friend, Jane, is one of the only people her age who stayed in Winter when everyone else left for college, and she is nervous about strangers in general, and Ben in particular. When it’s obvious that Ben won’t be able to leave their little town that day, Kate decides he should stay with Jane and her grand-mother, work on their crumbled mansion for room and board at least for a […]

Review: A Sexy Journey – Jasinda Wilder

Review: A Sexy Journey – Jasinda Wilder

Holy hotness! A Sexy Journey is exactly that – very sexy, enticing and hot. My A Sexy Journey review: Delilah has the shock of her life when she comes back home shortly after leaving for work, only to find her husband in bed with the pastor’s wife… A Sexy Journey certainly did start with a bang, as she took of her shoes and threw them at the love-birds before packing all her things and leaving to find her sister to tell her what had happened. Only to receive yet another shock when she realized her sister had an affair with Harry as well. In all her turmoil, she still managed to get her account closed out, and with twenty grand […]
