  My Lady Captor was my first time reading Hannah Howell and she made a fan out of me. The story was compelling and the characters were charming. Ruth Urquhart – also new-to-me – masterfully delivered the tale, keeping me engaged and skillfully keeping a large cast of characters distinct. Highlights: Main Characters Sorcha Hay is exactly the type of heroine I adore in historical romance. She’s intelligent, feisty, tenacious…she does what is needed in order to take care of her clan. The Cutting Edge served to prove how adept at writing compelling stories Reiss is. She not only put me in a combat hospital in Balad by drawing images to vivid they were visceral, she also drew characters I’m completely invested in.   Although I’ve been listening to audiobooks for a few years now, I still consider myself a noob. This was made more definite when I debated on whether or not to listen to Filthy, and thereby finish the Rixton Falls series to date, due to the fact I just wasn’t loving the story.   Darkness Dawns served as my introduction to Dianne Duvall and I’m kicking myself for not having listened to it sooner! It was chock full of excitement, romance, action, and a new-to-me spin on vampires and immortals. The fact it was narrated by Kirsten Potter was gravy! Highlights: MCs Darkness Dawns revolved around Sarah and Roland and I adored them both! Sarah might be pint-sized but she’s tough – mentally and physically. She’s not one to back down from a challenge – or a rescue – when necessary. That worked to Roland’s advantage since she comes to his aid. To say I was anxious for Pierced, Pierce and Myrtle’s story, would be an understatement. I wanted to know more about them both but mostly I wanted to watch and laugh as Pierce tried to dig himself out of the mess he’d created with Myrtle. And while he definitely buried himself deeper before he managed to dig himself out, I rather enjoyed the process and seeing Myrtle get Pierced. 😉 LOL, Pierce made me laugh so hard.
