2020 New Release Challenge
The 2020 New Release Challenge is a year-long challenge in which we aim to read books released in 2020. Brandee and I are the sole hosts of the challenge, and we both hope many of you will sign up and participate! There is one post on the top of our homepage for all review links for the year, where the link is open for books you read and review each quarter. I also want to say a big thank you to Michelle @ Limabean Designs for creating our beautiful logo!!
In 2019, I read 140 books that counted for the New Release Challenge, and I don’t see why this should be any different for 2020. This is just one reason why we want to continue with the New Release Challenge. We both always tend to do better when someone cheers for me, and we cheer for them. Also, trying to make sure we are held accountable both for the ARCs I receive and books we buy is important to us.
As always, I have already created a 2020 Release shelf on Goodreads, if you want to check it out to help you be inspired 😉
There is a Facebook Group for the New Release Challenge, to have a place where we can keep up with each other, cheer each other on, and get to know each other better. It is also a place where we can help each other find even more new releases. For those of you who have already participated, it’s the same group as before.
The rules for the 2020 New Release Challenge are simple:
- Books have to be released and reviewed in 2020.
- Other challenges can be used as well, if you are participating in the Netgalley / Edelweiss challenge or in the COYER challenge, books can count towards more than one challenge, as long as the ones you use for the 2020 New Release Reading Challenge qualify to the other rules.
- The minimum length for a book to qualify is 100 pages, it can be in any format though, physical, e-book, ARC or audiobook.
- The New Release Challenge is open from January 1st through December 31st 2020, and sign-ups are open until September 1st 2020.
- You don’t have to be a blogger to participate, you can link to your review on Goodreads or Booklikes instead – so don’t be shy!
- If you want to spread the love, please use #2020NewReleaseChallenge on Twitter 😉
There are five levels in the 2020 New Release Challenge:
- 1-30 books per year – New Release Newbie
- 31-60 books per year – New Release Pro
- 61-100 books per year – New Release Veteran
- 101-200 books per year – New Release Enthusiast
- 200+ books per year – New Release Obsessed
To sign up, please link your sign-up post in the linky below, and also make sure you use the quarterly linky for your reviews. You can choose if you want to do monthly or quarterly challenge updates on your blog, but you will have the possibility to link up each quarter with your reviews.

You can choose as many or as few books as you like, Stephanie! Do you think you’ll read any books next year that are actually released next year?

You know, in the past I haven’t signed up for this challenge because I have such a backlog of old books to read. But I think I want to balance that a bit more this year with new books. What better way than this challenge?! I think I’ll definitely be a new release newbie ☺️! I’m excited to give it a go!
YAY Berls! It’s so nice that you’re joining us! <3
I’ll be signing up tomorrow morning! Thanks!
WooHoo Davida!
Thanks for hosting this one again in 2020. I always enjoy this challenge and will be part of it again in 2020 🙂
That’s awesome, Lola 🙂 good luck!

Sorry about that, Writer! I think it’s because you don’t have an avatar 🙂 Good luck!
It feels a bit perverse that I’m thinking about joining this challenge as well as beat the backlist! lol
One thing is for sure, all of my books would count towards a reading goal!
Ha! To me, it sounds like the best of both worlds! 🙂 Good luck, Nicci.
Thanks for hosting again – I’m hoping to stick to my target next year and not go mad like I did this!
Good luck, Jemima, and thanks so much for joining us again! 🙂
I haven’t made my post yet but I will soon.
I am in! I finally found the time to write my sign-up post and set the link *Yay*
Awesome, Vi! Good luck 🙂

Hi! I’m glad I found a challenge that will make the new books of 2020 count (while the others will count for Beat the Backlist). I hope my sign up post is okay.
Welcome to the challenge, Maelia! I look forward to seeing what 2020 books you’ll read 🙂
Hi Ladies! This will be my first time participating in this challenge. I am really looking forward to this! 🙂 I am having some trouble linking up. I get to adding my Thumbnail pic, and it has me close the window, and it does not let me submit. Can you please help me? Thank you! 🙂 Christina/ The Blog for Teachers, Readers, and Life!
So sorry about that Christina! I think it’s because you don’t have an avatar – the Mr. Linky is a bit difficult like that. I’ll ask them if they can help us help you!
Welcome to the challenge! 🙂
Thank you! I’m connected!?
Thanks for hosting!
It’s a pleasure!
🙂
Sounds good! I’ve wanted to before, but I might actually join this year. 🙂
What kind of giveaway(s) do you have?
So happy to have you Tarissa!
Sorry about my mistake – we won’t be doing giveaways this year – I hope you’ll still want to participate.
So excited to be joining you!
Welcome, Jinsok! We’re so happy to meet you 🙂
I am really looking forward to tackling this challenge this year. Thanks for hosting!
YAY Carole! We’re happy you’re participating again this year.
I’m connected! Thank you so much for hosting this challenge!?

Hello readers! I read so many great new releases last year and would love to join a challenge to keep up that motivation! I usually focus on my backlist so this is new and exciting! 😀
Hi Stacy, nice to meet you! I look forward to seeing what new releases you’ll read this year.
What a great idea for a challenge – thanks for hosting 🙂
Thanks for joining us, Becki!
