Review ~ Birthday Girl ~ Penelope Douglas

Review ~ Birthday Girl ~ Penelope Douglas

Birthday Girl proved yet again how much I enjoy PDouglas’s writing style. Complex, well-drawn characters, genuine-feeling storyline, angst and romance all combined to make a hell of a story. One I was loathe to put down. Jordan hasn’t had many people she could count on in her life. Her mom left her, her dad’s a drunk, and her first boyfriend beat her. It’s her birthday when we meet her and her current boyfriend, who was supposed to pick her up from work, is nowhere to be found. She takes herself to a midnight showing of some 80’s horror flick, and she meets a man. One that intrigues her. One that makes her comfortable and confident. One she’d like to get […]

Review ~ Credence ~ Penelope Douglas

Review ~ Credence ~ Penelope Douglas

Credence blew me away. If my body didn’t require sleep, I would have finished it in one sitting. It’s been awhile since I read PDouglas but I was immediately reminded of how much I admire her writing when she grabbed me by the throat and pulled me into Tiernan’s story. But it isn’t only a story about Tiernan. That’s a reason I love PDouglas. And make no mistake…I loved Credence! Tiernan is a few months shy of 18 when her parents die suddenly. She’s sent to live in a remote mountain town with her step-uncle and 2 male step-cousins, none of whom she’s ever met before. Tiernan has spent her life being raised by everyone but her parents and as […]

Review ~ The Duke I Tempted ~ Scarlett Peckham

Review ~ The Duke I Tempted ~ Scarlett Peckham

Scarlett Peckham is a new-to-me author who I found at the library when I was, *ahem* looking for another duke. (Do I need to specify which duke I was looking for?!? LOL) I’m happy to have made SPeckham’s acquaintance though as I enjoyed The Duke I Tempted. I found the story to be well-written overall and I’ll happily be continuing the series. Poppy Cavendish is an orphan nurserywoman whose spent the last decade of her life ensuring her independence. Marriage is the last thing on her to-do list. So upon meeting the Duke of Westmead and his sister, Constance, the attraction she feels towards the Duke is highly inconvenient. Spending time in close proximity while planning the greenery and flowers […]

Review: A Winter Symphony – Tiffany Reisz

Review: A Winter Symphony – Tiffany Reisz

A Winter Symphony is a new story, but there was still comfort in being with Nora, King, Søren and Jules again. Reisz did it again. A Winter Symphony is a beautifully written story in The Original Sinners series, and I loved every second of every word of it! I read this in 2020, and as you all know, it was a year when I needed comfort. I definitely got that comfort reading about my favorite kinky characters. I feel like these characters have become a part of me – even if we would probably never meet if we lived in the same universe. A Winter Symphony is beautifully written, only Reisz can make it so that it reads like kinky […]

OctobeRec Fest Review #2 ~ Torn from You ~ Nashoda Rose

OctobeRec Fest Review #2 ~ Torn from You ~ Nashoda Rose

OctobeRec Fest review #2 – woot! Thanks to Naomi from Nomi’s Reading Palace for the recommendation! And the perfect beer pairing? Shipyard Pumpkinhead! Are you seeing a theme? I do love me some pumpkin beer. This one mixes a hazy IPA with the pumpkin and it’s a lighter finish. Again, if you like pumpkin AND beer, give this one a try. Oh, and give Nashoda Rose’s Tear Asunder series a go, too! Torn from You was a gripping and emotional read. And it was a satisfying wrap-up to Emily and Logan’s (aka Sculpt) story. It had been awhile since I’d read With You, the prequel to Torn from You, so I re-read it before diving in. I’m happy I did […]

OctobeRec Fest Review #1 ~ Betwixt ~ Darynda Jones

OctobeRec Fest Review #1 ~ Betwixt ~ Darynda Jones

Here’s my first review for OctobeRec Fest. Thanks to Robyn for the recommendation and gift of a great book! 😉 And the perfect beer pairing? Samuel Adams’ Jack-O! Omigosh do I love this beer! Pumpkin with the perfect amount of pumpkin spice. If you like pumpkin AND beer, give this one a try. And pick up Betwixt too! 🙂 Betwixt is an excellent introduction to DJones’ Betwixt & Between series. I was immediately drawn into the story as the characters, especially Defiance (is there a better name for a witch?!?), are so engaging. Then there’s the setting – an old home in Salem, Massachusetts. It all adds up to a witchy good time! Highlights: Characters Dephne (Defiance) is a character […]

Review ~ The Time in Between ~ Kristen Ashley

Review ~ The Time in Between ~ Kristen Ashley

I think I’ve established that I’m a sucker for second chance romance and The Time in Between is the ultimate in second chances at romance. It was a beautiful story with beautiful characters set in a beautiful locale. And it was pure Kristen Ashley. I’ve loved all the books in the Magdalene series but this one is my very favorite. Coert and Cady were once very much in love and committed to the long haul. Circumstances tore them apart and kept them apart for almost 20 years. They’re both very stubborn and Cady arriving in Coert’s hometown has him digging his heels in not wanting to listen to Cady. But Cady is determined. And those feelings from so long ago? […]

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Gabriel Fallen ~ Nina West

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Gabriel Fallen ~ Nina West

Gabriel Fallen had me equally as riveted as its predecessor, especially since the romance between Mercy and Gabriel is really heating up. 😉 The romance is definitely heating up – and so are the feelings they’re both starting to have for each other.    Mercy is having a bit of trouble reconciling the two sides of Gabriel and her intense attraction to him. And then there’s her inability to understand why he’s do determined to have, and maybe keep?, her. I like the fact that Mercy is vulnerable and unsure of herself while also throwing smack back at Gabriel’s arrogant, smirking face. I felt NWest gave us an even deeper view of Mercy and who she is. Did your feelings […]

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Sweet Mercy ~ Nina West

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Sweet Mercy ~ Nina West

Wowza! There is just something about NWest’s writing that immediately draws me in! Sweet Mercy had me flipping through the pages, completely absorbed in Mercy & Gabriel’s story to the very end. I felt for and admired Mercy. She’d experienced and endured so much but she didn’t let it beat her. She’s spirited and feisty and those qualities are good to have when life seems to continually hand you lemons. And then there’s her loyalty. When her dad went to prison she changed her life plans in order to help him. She’d do anything for her dad…which lands her in her current situation. 😉 What did you think about Mercy? I loved Mercy from the start! There was a certain […]

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Surrender to Me ~ Nina West #seriesinamonth

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Surrender to Me ~ Nina West #seriesinamonth

Holy wow, wifey! Surrender to Me was quite the conclusion for Henry and Abbi. I’ve loved every moment despite some heartache but the finale was perfect. Yeah, this was definitely an ending that was made for Abbi and Henry! And even with that, I wouldn’t have minded more books about them 😉   I can’t even verbalize how proud I was of Abbi for finally sticking up for herself with her mother. That woman was so manipulative! She did eventually do some growing of her own but I applauded Abbi for respectfully putting her mom in her place. What were your feelings? Ugh! I actually hated Abbi’s mom in this one. I can’t believe the lengths she went to in […]
