Review: The Outlaw Demon Wails (The Hollows #6) – Kim Harrison

Review: The Outlaw Demon Wails (The Hollows #6) – Kim Harrison

The Outlaw Demon Wails completely blew my socks off! So many incredible twists and turns, so many new secrets unveiled, so much new information about Rachel and her family. I am almost reeling after finishing this read. My review of The Outlaw Demon Wails is spoiler-free, but since it is about the sixth book in the series, there will  be spoilers from the prior books, so if you haven’t read the five first books, please proceed reading knowing that! I love how much Rachel grew in The Outlaw Demon Wails, finally, she is starting to think a little before she acts – even if that is still a little difficult for her. Dealing with the aftermath of Kist’s death is […]

Sidekick Showcase #14 – One Third of a Love Triangle

Sidekick Showcase #14 – One Third of a Love Triangle

Sidekick Showcase, previously known as Sidekick Saturday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Jaclyn at JC’s Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. In some cases, the sidekicks actually steal the show and you like them better than the heroine or hero. Maybe they didn’t have enough page time for how great they were. Anyone can play along! I will post my Sidekicks on Saturday, and so will Jaclyn, then whichever day during the week that you would like to post yours, you can put your link in on Jaclyn’s page. Just do the following: • Choose a sidekick *or someone other than the hero or heroine* that you would like to […]

Review: A Tale of Two Mommies – Vanita Oelschlager

Review: A Tale of Two Mommies – Vanita Oelschlager

*I received a free ARC of A Tale of Two Mommies from Vanita Books via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review* In a Tale of Two Mommies, a little boy who has two moms meets two new, very curious friends on the beach one day. They ask him all kinds of questions about which mom does what – and I was perplexed at how this is party also due to gender roles, not only because he has two moms instead of one mom and one dad, or only one parent (or grand-parent or aunt / uncle etc). Like, who can fix what is broken? had the underlying meaning of ‘since there are no men in your house’, at least […]

Review: All Over You (Unforgettable You #1.5) – Beverley Kendall

Review: All Over You (Unforgettable You #1.5) – Beverley Kendall

*I received a free ARC of All Over You from Season Publishing LLC via Netgally in exchange of an honest review* All Over You is a novella in the Unforgettable You series. And since I’ve enjoyed quite a few new adult reads lately, I was excited to read this, especially because I love this author’s historical romance novels. As with Only For You, though, I was disappointed when reading. I had trouble connecting with Becca and Scott, and even if I already ‘knew’ Becca’s friends from before, I really didn’t feel like I knew enough about either of them to actually care. Becca is angry at Scott for how he handled something when they were dating, and this is the […]

Vacation is awesome, Internet connection not!

I am on vacation in Spain, an the Internet connection I was supposed to have is wonky at best, inexistant at worst. I am not ignoring anyone, but it takes over ten minutes just to load a page, an a lot of times, I can’t comment at all. I will make up for it when I get back home in ten days. I have quite a few posts scheduled, luckily, and I hope you guys will stay with me! Review: For a Few Demons More (The Hollows #5) – Kim Harrison

Review: For a Few Demons More (The Hollows #5) – Kim Harrison

For a Few Demons More starts with Rachel waking up – but not really waking up! She can feel that someone else is inside her head, and she has no idea what to do to get rid of the other person – who has nothing to do in there anyway.  As Rachel manages to force that someone out of her head, Ceri arrives to help her, but is terrified when she sees who is there. This frantic mood continues through most of For a Few Demons More, and little plot-points from prior books are resolved, while seeds for new plots are expertly planted – almost out of sight from the reader. Rachel has finally decided to introduce Trent to Ceri, […]

Review: Some Quiet Place – Kelsey Sutton

Review: Some Quiet Place – Kelsey Sutton

*I received a free ARC of Some Quiet Place from Flux via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review* Some Quiet Place is the kind of book I thought I would really love, and I wanted to love it too. Unfortunately, though, I just couldn’t. The premise is great, the blurb is very mysterious, and the main character appears to be a girl who can ‘see’ emotions. Very quickly after starting Some Quiet Place, though, I found it to be quite predictable, I realized fairly quickly what was going on, and there weren’t really any surprises for me at all. That the feelings Elizabeth can see are described as some kind of paranormal creature – it isn’t that she can […]

Review: A Fistful of Charms (The Hollows #4) – Kim Harrison

Review: A Fistful of Charms (The Hollows #4) – Kim Harrison

A Fistful of Charms is filled with action, just as the prior books in the Hollows series are. Most of the action happens away from Cincy, though, and it was nice to have a change of scenery. When Jenks shows up in panic, because Jax is missing after leaving with Nick, Rachel puts things in motion to save both of them – even if Nick never called her back or truly broke up with her. There are even more sub-plots in A Fistful of Charms than before! Rachel is challenged as David’s alpha, she uses more magic to transform people, but this time she does it without her earth-charms to make things happen faster – and thus, she has to […]
