In her twenties, Emma Blair marries her high school sweetheart, Jesse. They build a life for themselves, far away from the expectations of their parents and the people of their hometown in Massachusetts. They travel the world together, living life to the fullest and seizing every opportunity for adventure.

On their first wedding anniversary, Jesse is on a helicopter over the Pacific when it goes missing. Just like that, Jesse is gone forever.

Emma quits her job and moves home in an effort to put her life back together. Years later, now in her thirties, Emma runs into an old friend, Sam, and finds herself falling in love again. When Emma and Sam get engaged, it feels like Emma’s second chance at happiness.

That is, until Jesse is found. He’s alive, and he’s been trying all these years to come home to her. With a husband and a fiancé, Emma has to now figure out who she is and what she wants, while trying to protect the ones she loves.

Who is her one true love? What does it mean to love truly?

Emma knows she has to listen to her heart. She’s just not sure what it’s saying.

Welcome to OctobeRec Fest. I started this as a nod to Oktoberfest (books & beer…heaven, am I right?!?) so I’ll spending the month of October reading a few of the many, many books I’ve procured thanks to you, my blogging friends.

Title: One True Loves
Author: Taylor Jenkins Reid
Recommended by: Tanya @Girl Plus Books

One True Loves was my first Taylor Jenkins Reid book and now I’m clamoring for all her backlist. Holy wow! This was in incredibly emotional story and TJReid delivered ALL the feels. I can’t thank Tanya enough for the recommendation. 🙂

TJReid did a phenomenal job in weaving together the threads of Emma’s, Jesse’s, and Sam’s stories. She deftly conveyed the uncertainties of the teen years, the thrill of first love, the angst in finding yourself, the struggle of grief, and the lesson that you can, and do in fact, change – both in who you are and what you want out of life. Emma was blessed in life…twice. First in living out the dreams she and Jesse had created together. And then, after losing Jesse, having a loving and supportive family who encourage her in finding love and happiness again.

One True Loves makes you think about true love. Is there only one person out there for each of us? Or are there multiple someones out there waiting for the right us to show up. This story is extraordinary in that despite all Emma endured and how she went about things, I wanted for her what she wanted in life. In both phases. My emotions ran the gamut – laughing, crying, sighing… I felt it all right along with Emma. I can’t imagine experiencing what she did and having to make the decisions she had to make. But I liked the ones she made.

It takes something special in an author, in their story-telling, to bring out such strong emotions in me. To create a story that touches me so indelibly. Which is why I’ll be snatching up all of TJReid’s backlist at my earliest convenience. 😉
