Ruthless dragon king Ladon Ormarr must keep his throne at all costs. And now, with war on the horizon, he’ll need a miracle. Luckily, the fates have dropped Skylar Amon right into his lap.
Except he may have met his match.
The feisty Amon sister has no fear — of him or any other dragon shifter — is brash, doesn’t stick to protocols, and regularly offends his warriors and advisers.
Skylar also has no intention of sticking around. She doesn't believe in the whole destined mates thing and believes all dragon kings to be dangerous. But if it means taking out the High King who murdered her parents, she'll put up with Ladon... temporarily.
But the fates have other plans. And when Skylar disappears in the middle of a battle, Ladon will burn down the world to find her.
Wowza! The Blood King was fantastic! Ladon and Skylar’s story was action-packed! There were lots of dragon battles as well as battles of will and battles of the heart. These two were absolutely fated for each other but both were too stubborn to recognize the signs. Once they did, they were too stubborn to want to give in. LOL The banter between these two was fun and built the sexual tension. There was more to the story than the romance though. We got to know more about dragon culture and the ways in which phoenixes and dragons ruled together. And we got even more insight into Pytheios’s sick determination to be the immortal ruler of all dragon clans.
I read books 2 and 3 out of order and I’m happy I read them back-to-back because while it didn’t hurt to have read them this way, there were a few things in book 3 that made more sense after having finished book 2.

The Warrior King by Abigail OwenSeries: Inferno Rising #3

Meira Amon is the most reserved of the phoenixes, finding computers easier to deal with than people and their messy emotions. But she wants revenge against the Rotting King Pytheios for the murder of her parents just as much as her sisters. Offering herself as a queen for their ally, dragon shifter King Gorgon of the Black Clan, only makes sense.
Just one problem…
Samael Veles worked his lowborn ass off to become the fiercest warrior of the Black Clan. He has pledged his life to protect his king at all costs. Yet somehow, in the middle of war, he took one look at a woman in a reflection and gave up his heart. When that woman turns out to be the phoenix promised to mate his king and help bring peace to their kind, he has no choice but to accept it.
Until her fire unexpectedly destroys the king after they’ve wed. Now Samael must choose between his loyalty to his clan and protecting the queen who might be his mate from his people’s wrath, one of which will unlock a destiny no one could have ever imagined…
Although The Warrior King is #3 in the series, I read it second but it didn’t really matter. I so enjoyed Meira & Samael’s story. They were both misfits of sorts. Meira was quiet, smart, and happy to stand in the background behind her sisters who were both more comfortable in the spotlight. Samael was lowborn in his clan but rose to the top of the ranks under a king that never treated him as less than. A perfect match! Of course, they both tried their darnedest to mess things up. 😉 I enjoyed how things worked out between the two of them and I reveled in the excitement of dragon politics, intrigue, and battle. Bonus? Gargoyles! LOL
Honestly, I was thinking that The Blood King might be my favorite so far, but they each have their merit and if you asked me today I don’t think I could choose. I can’t wait for book #4! Having met the couple who will be featured, I think it’s going to blow me away! If you’re a fan of shifter stories, specifically DRAGONS, give this series a go. You won’t be disappointed. 😉
