Review: Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda – Becky Albertalli

Review: Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda – Becky Albertalli

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda is one of the best YA books ever! I loved all the characters, they were so realistic. And I loved the dilemmas Simon and Blue faced with realizing they were gay. This is a book I’m getting for the library at the school where I teach, I think every teenager should read it. Story: I don’t think there’s much I can say about Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda that hasn’t been said before. Simon is just the perfect character in a young adult story. He’s a little awkward. A little obsessed with himself and his own problems – even if he loves his friends and his family. And he’s more than a little […]

Review: Undone By You – Kate Meader

Review: Undone By You – Kate Meader

Undone By You shows a different side of the Chicago Rebels, and none of the sisters is the main character here. That role was Cade and Dante’s. And wow, did they play it well! Story: I loved how we got a hockey player tentatively starting something with the Chicago Rebels’ new GM. Their romance was very realistic, especially in light of Cade wanting to stay in the closet – at least for a while longer. Undone By You shows how two quite different men can feel completely unravelled by each other – whiles till playing their cards very close to the vest. Characters: Dante is comfortable in his own skin, openly gay, ever since he stopped playing hockey and started […]

Review: Hello Forever – Sarina Bowen

Review: Hello Forever – Sarina Bowen

Hello Forever had everything I enjoy in a romance, a strong relationship between the protagonists – even when they thought they couldn’t be together. Story: After Axel and Cax got caught making out in the woods at youth camp, Cax just disappeared. Axel still thought of him, and at least his mom was there for him in every way she could be. Six years later, when Axel is offered a job, he decides to say ‘yes’ after seeing Cax in the stands of a basket ball game. There is a lot of love and hope in Hello Forever. At the same time, there is a lot of bigotry and hate, too. The characters move the story forward, and it took […]

#Review: Leveled – Jay Crownover

#Review: Leveled – Jay Crownover

Leveled has me questioning why I haven’t read a Crownover series before now! I was enchanted, and she now has a new fan! Lando and Dom were both characters that made me feel, and their development through this story was truly well done. I read Leveled as part of my Can You Read a Series in a Month challenge, and I have read all the Saints of Denver series in June. I enjoyed the characters, the story, the secrets, and also the very strong sense of family and friendship. Dom and Lando both thought they weren’t deserving of love and a real relationship. Until there was no way for either of them to resist any longer. Lando lived with a […]

Blogtour Review: Cowboys Don’t Ride Unicorns – Tara Lain

Blogtour Review: Cowboys Don’t Ride Unicorns – Tara Lain

Cowboys Don’t Ride Unicorns tackles quite a few pre-conceptions, and it did so with amazing characters! I think Danny and Laurie are my favorites by Lain *sighs* I’m still swooning, they’re so cute! I was such a happy reader with Cowboys Don’t Ride Unicorns. It started with Danny not only winning a bull-rider rodeo, but also saving another bull-rider’s life. I was very happy to see Rand and Kai as well as the kids again, too. I met those characters in Cowboys Don’t Come Out, the first story in this amazing series. Danny was my kind of hero, because while he is tough on the outside, he is all lovely and sensitive on the inside. He wasn’t afraid to show […]

Review: The Upside of Unrequited – Becky Albertalli

Review: The Upside of Unrequited – Becky Albertalli

The Upside of Unrequited is pretty much a perfect book. I have not a single complaint, I loved everything from the writing to the characters to the story to the beautiful and extremely strong feels! I was practically enchanted by The Upside of Unrequited – and I think one of the reasons was because I just understood Molly so very well. How she was a serial crusher, but never dared to completely put herself out there and try to see if the guy liked her back. From the safety of distance, she could crush and feel the butterflies, but make sure she’d never get hurt. And while I didn’t think of it that way when I was her age, now, […]

Blogtour Review: Cowboys Don’t Come Out – Tara Lain

Welcome to my stop on the Cowboys Don’t Come Out tour! I just love Tara Lain’s stories, and this one was no different – prepare to be swooned! Cowboys Don’t Come Out is such a sweet and tender story! And Lain managed to bring so many truths into it, while using the characters to move the story along, too. Rand and Kai are both cowboys, and they both think they can’t let anyone know they’re gay – for different reasons. Kai is quite the mystery, and apart from the fact that he works at the stables at the hotel Rand is spending Christmas in Hawaii, it takes a while for both Rand and the readers to get to know him. […]

Blog tour Review: Spell Cat – Tara Lain

Blog tour Review: Spell Cat – Tara Lain

Spell Cat is a light-hearted romance that also deals with some heavier subjects like discrimination and living in hiding. I knew I’d enjoy Spell Cat as soon as I started reading it, because who doesn’t love a history professor who teaches a class on witch craft, and the hot, nerdy physics professor who seemingly falls for him at first sight? Plus, there is a familiar in cat shape, a mystery, and elders who are keeping the truth from the younger witches in New York… Killian and Blaine were great characters, and they weren’t the only ones, either. Spell Cat shows that discriminating based on whether or not people are human, and whether they fall in love with the opposite sex, […]

Blogtour Review: Beauty Inc. – Tara Lain

Blogtour Review: Beauty Inc. – Tara Lain

I absolutely loved Beauty, Inc. – it’s one of the best Beauty and the Beast re-tellings I’ve ever read, and I was immediately swept off my feet by both Belle and Magnus. Tara Lain’s Pennymaker Tales series is truly amazing! I loved spending some time with Belle and Magnus, and Beauty, Inc. was a tale that got me thinking about the fact that we often need to look deeper than what we see at first sight. There is strong friendships and loyalty in this story, and there is family who doesn’t act like family, but friends who do act like family. There are some strong, very smart characters, and some important messages about what is important in life. A great […]
