Stacking The Shelves #75 – BB&B #25

Stacking The Shelves, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews is all about the latest additions to your library – virtual or actual, with books that are  bought, borrowed, won or ARCs  you will be reading soon. BB&B is a homage to to Barron’s Books and Baubles from Karen Marie Moning’s amazing Fever series, and is hosted by Braine over at Talk Supe.

My students (they’re aged 15-17) want to read The Maze Runner for class once we finish reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, so I figured I really need to read it myself before I decide if it’s appropriate or not. I really want us to read something contemporary, and for us to be able to watch a movie based on the book – so my choices are a little bit limited.

And this week, I got auto-approved for Harper Collins UK titles on Netgalley! *happydances*

Netgalley ARCs:

Made for You cover - (un)Conventional Bookviews

Made for You – Melissa Marr

Eva Tilling wakes up in the hospital to discover an attempt has been made on her life. But who in her sleepy town could have hit her with their car? And why? Before she can consider the question, she finds that she’s awoken with a strange new skill: the ability to foresee people’s deaths when they touch her.
While she is recovering from the hit-and-run, Nate, an old friend, reappears, and the two must traverse their rocky past as they figure out how to use Eva’s power to keep her friends – and themselves – alive. But the killer is obsessed and will stop at nothing to get to Eva…

Thank you, Harper Collins UK!

Kindle Purchases:

Confess cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsConfess – Colleen Hoover

Auburn Reed has her entire life mapped out. Her goals are in sight and there’s no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to find a deep attraction to the enigmatic artist who works there, Owen Gentry.
For once, Auburn takes a risk and puts her heart in control, only to discover Owen is keeping major secrets from coming out. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything important to Auburn, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it.
The last thing Owen wants is to lose Auburn, but he can’t seem to convince her that truth is sometimes as subjective as art. All he would have to do to save their relationship is confess. But in this case, the confession could be much more destructive than the actual sin…

The Maze Runner cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsThe Maze Runner (The Maze Runner #1) – James Dashner

If you ain’t scared, you ain’t human.
When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his name. He’s surrounded by strangers—boys whose memories are also gone.
Nice to meet ya, shank. Welcome to the Glade.
Outside the towering stone walls that surround the Glade is a limitless, ever-changing maze. It’s the only way out—and no one’s ever made it through alive.
Everything is going to change.
Then a girl arrives. The first girl ever. And the message she delivers is terrifying.
Remember. Survive. Run.

  1. I was a bit disappointed in the Maze Runner-the MC was a pain in the butt and even the most simple questions were never answered which made me want to punch someone! I gave up halfway through and I’ll try the film instead. Enjoy your books!

    • I’m actually hoping they’ll change their minds and rather read either Divergent or The Hunger Games instead 😀 We’ll see, the official vote will be on Thursday in class.

    • English is also their third (or fourth) language, so I’m more worried about the language that way, than age-wise, Shelley.

  2. I haven’t read the Maze Runner, myself, but my sister has read it and loved it. It’s Young Adult I think, so it probably should be okay for kids that age. Made for You looks great, although I am not sure whether I want to read it, looking forward to hear what you think of it. I hope you enjoy your new books!

    • I’m just worried they won’t understand everything, since English is a language most of them only started learning four or five years ago.

    • It was good, Stephanie, Colleen Hoover is pretty amazing. There is more art like the cover inside, too… there, now I’ve properly made you want it even more 😉

    • I’m so glad to hear you loved The Maze Runner, Krystianna! Most movies are a little bit meh if I really love the book…

    • I’m not the one reading, Victoria, it’s the students, and then we discuss different parts of the story, analyse some, and eventually, they’ll write an essay.

    • Confess is one that I read as soon as it was downloaded to my kindle, Shannon, and I did enjoy it 🙂
      Happy reading.

  3. I have a hard copy of Made For You but I haven’t had a chance get to it yet but it looks good. I think I like your cover better..lol. I read Maze Runner and it was okay but I found it a tad bit boring till about 100 pages in or so…hope you like it. 🙂

  4. Woohoo! Congrats on being auto-approved, Lexxie! That’s the status earned with such a high rating, eh? I think Maze Runner would be a great book for your class to read. I look forward to seeing what you think. (I haven’t read it – I’ve just heard) I’m envious of both Made for You and Confess, my dear. Marr and Hoover are authors I adore but am behind in reading their books. 🙁

I’m back from my weekend away. It was fun, I accomplished quite a bit, but I didn’t sleep well so I’m glad to be home. I just wish I could have slept in this morning. 🙂 I hope you had a lovely weekend and that your Monday is going well. We only have 57 more days, Lexxie!! FIFTY-SEVEN!! **BIG HUGS**

  5. I really liked The Maze Runner! Sadly, I can’t really say that for the following two books, but the first was great. And I think it would make for great discussion with your students! But then again…I’m not a teacher. I just think it’s a weird book that was fun to talk about (I read it with a GR group).
