To make matters worse, her twin sister is keeping secrets, loan sharks are circling, and the man of her dreams — a newspaper reporter — is on assignment to bring down everyone with the last name St James.
Things are certainly looking bleak for the down-and-out socialite until a good deed throws her into the path of the city’s top crime-fighter, Dark Ryder. Suddenly, Bremy has a new goal: apprentice to a superhero, and start her own crime-fighting career.
Ryder has no need for a sidekick, but it turns out the city needs Bremy’s help. Atticus St James is planning the crime of the century, and Bremy may be the only one able to get close enough to her father to stop him.
Now all she needs to do is figure out this superhero thing in less than a month, keep her identity secret from the man who could very well be The One, and save the city from total annihilation.
Well, no one ever said being a superhero would be easy…

When a new boy’s body is found without a head Matyas learns a terrible secret: a magician can live forever by devouring the lives of children. The magician who does this has hidden his name so no one can work a spell against him. He is the Child Eater.

Get Happy – Mary Amato
In this poignant, realistic, contemporary YA by a state master list star, perfect for fans of Sarah Dessen and Gayle Forman, a young songwriter builds a substitute family with her friends in place of the broken family she grew up with.
A hip high school girl who loves music, writes songs, and is desperate for a ukelele, learns to her shock that her father did not abandon her years ago and has been trying to keep in touch. She begins to investigate him, only to discover that he has a new life with a new family, including the perfect stepdaughter, a girl who Minerva despises.
Tangled Lives – Hilary Boyd
From the bestselling author of Thursdays in the Park comes a tense, emotional drama about what happens to a family when a secret is kept hidden, and a stranger is suddenly introduced into the dynamic.
Annie Delancey is happily married, in her early 50s, with three grown children. But Annie guards a secret. At age nineteen she had a baby boy and gave him up for adoption. She still thinks of him every day.
One day she receives a letter from Kent Social Services; her son Daniel wants to make contact. A part of her is overjoyed–she longs to meet him. But another part fears what this revelation will do to her family, none of whom know about her past. When Daniel is introduced to Annie’s family, a few small tears in the family fabric suddenly gape wide, and the impact of is greater than she could have ever imagined.
The Sweetness of Life (Kovacs & Horn #1) – Paulus Hochgatterer
A German bestseller, winner of the European Union Prize for Literature, and longlisted for the German Book Prize in 2006, Paulus Hochgatterer has created a chilling psychological thriller a group of damaged people living in a pleasant and seemingly tranquil Austrian village. It’s the Christmas holiday, the presents have been opened, and a six-year-old girl is drinking cocoa and playing with her grandfather. The doorbell rings, and the old man gets up. The next time the girl sees her grandfather, he is lying by the barn, his skull broken; his face a red pulp against the white snow. From that time on, she does not speak a single word.
Along with Detective Superintendent Ludwig Kovacs, Raffael Horn, the psychiatrist engaged to treat the silent child, reluctantly becomes involved in solving the murder. Their parallel researches sweep through the town: a young mother who believes her new-born child is the devil; a Benedictine monk who uses his iPod to drown the voices in his head; a high-spending teenager who tortures cats. With his background as a child psychiatrist, Hochgatterer draws back the veil of normality and presents a disconcerting portrait of a winter-held town filled with unsavory inhabitants.
Audiobooks:
I got Stacia Kane’s whole Downside Ghosts series in audio version, just because Berls @ Fantasy is More Fun was having such a blast with these, and she said the narrator was awesome. She also helped me get a hold of them – as this is not an easy feat in Europe. Thank you Berls! I look forward to listening to the slang 🙂 Stacking the Shelves is also for audiobooks, and I have to say I have loved listening to other stories I have gotten earlier.
Did you get some exciting-looking books this week? Remember to leave me your link so I can check out your Stacking the Shelves post, too 🙂 Thanks for stopping by! Have a spectacular Saturday.

Hope you enjoy all your new reads!

Woah, Child Eater sounds scary! I got Get Happy as well and Sidekick. Hope you enjoy your reads!
Yeah, Child Eater just appealed to my horror-loving side… There is also a fountain in Bern, with a child-eater. I’m going to have to dig out a picture for my review *grins*
I’ve had my eye on Get Happy for awhile now, but I just can’t bring myself to download it. I’ll be interested in reading your thoughts on it.
Enjoy all of your new books!
My StS
I will let you know when I start reading it, Kim 🙂 Thanks for stopping by.
It seems as though we’ve been waiting for the 6th book in the Stacia Kane series for years. I am definitely going to have to go back and re-read at least the last book. Makes you wonder what the delay is. I had fun reading Sidekick. It was just strange enough for me to enjoy. Have a great weekend!
Yeah, I am desperate for it! It doesn’t even have a title yet, I think… I hope SK is doing well, and that she’s just been busy with other things lately.
I look even more forward to Sidekick knowing you enjoyed it, Shelley. Thanks for stopping by.
THE CHILD EATER? THE CHILD EATER?! I need a book called The Child Eater on my shelves like yesterday. *runs off to find*
I hope you’ll get your hands on it, Vickie! Thanks for stopping by 🙂
Ooh, The Child Eater sounds interesting. I’ve got Sidekick to read too — I bought it on the day it came out after I got declined for the ARC, though. Enjoy!
Yeah, I can’t wait for either of them 🙂 Thanks for stopping by, Nikki.

Here’s My Weekly Wrap-Up!
Naomi @ Nomi’s Paranormal Palace
You procured some excellent sounding books, Lexxie!! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on them all but Sidekick, Avenge Me, and The Child Eater in particular. They all sound great though!
I’m glad #2 was surprised. And I hope you enjoyed the weekend. Are y’all back yet? I wasn’t online at all either. It was the first weekend in 3 weeks we’d all been home together, so we spent time doing family things. Watched 3 movies – which you know is something since I don’t watch tv or see movies often. 🙂
Will you be around tonight (your night, my afternoon)? I’d thought to stay up late last night to see if I could catch you but I was too sleepy. 😉
