Stacking The Shelves #6

Stacking The Shelves, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews, is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

When I started participating in Stacking The Shelves, it was because I figured I really need to keep better track of books I’m adding to my huge TBR pile every week. At the same time, I also think it’s a great way of connecting with other bloggers. So come on in, and see what books I picked up last week :

Netgalley ARCs :

Ruined - (un)Conventional BookviewsRuined by Tracy Wolf.
Blurb: He’s the last man Chloe Girard should love . . . but the first she ever could.
Ethan Frost is a visionary, a genius, every woman’s deepest, darkest fantasy—even mine. And, somehow, I am his.
He stole into my life like a dream. Turned my reality upside down and made my every desire come true—especially those I never knew I had. He demanded everything I had to give and gave me everything of himself in return.
But dreams don’t last forever, and ours is no exception. Because my nightmares are darker, and my wounds deeper, than I could ever reveal. And as much as Ethan wants to protect me, the secrets we we share will only tear us apart.

Improper Arrangements - (un)Conventional BookviewsImproper Arrangements by Juliana Ross
Blurb:France, 1866
A reckless infatuation nearly ruined Lady Alice Cathcart-Ross in her youth, but from the moment she spies Elijah Philemon Keating scaling a rock face without a rope in sight, the man awakens her long-buried desire. Alice has come to the high Alps in search of a mountaineer, and in Elijah she finds the guide of her dreams.
Though Elijah is known as one of the greatest explorers of the age, a tragic accident has destroyed his taste for adventure and society. Elijah can’t deny his attraction to Alice, but he resolves to avoid the entanglement that could accompany it. He promises Alice one week in the Alps, and no more.
Alice agrees, valuing her independence above all else. But as the heights they climb by day are overshadowed by the summits of passion they reach at night, these vows become harder and harder to keep…

The Wicked Confessions... - (un)Conventional BookviewsThe Wicked Confessions of Lady Cecelia Stanton by Viveka Portman
Blurb: When faced with a rakish, lusty husband, what is a proper English wife to do but educate herself in the art of bedplay?
“Marriages are strange things, none stranger perhaps than this betwixt me and my lord husband.”
Lady Cecelia is married to the dashing and philandering Lord William Stanton, a situation that would distress even the most composed and refined gently-born lady. However, Cecelia has a secret balm to her dissatisfaction: her maid, Bess Miller.
Cecelia’s inexperience and William’s insatiable appetites fuel her desire to learn, and Bess is a willing teacher. Then, when Cecelia blossoms into pregnancy and can no longer accommodate William’s needs, he distances himself, and Bess becomes her only solace and comfort — and the channel for her most intimate desires. As Cecelia struggles to understand her own feelings, gossip begins to spread. William starts asking questions, and wicked confessions must be made..

Kindle Purchases:
Once Bitten Twice Shy - (un)Conventional BookviewsOnce Bitten Twice Shy (Jaz Parks #1) by Jennifer Rardin
Blurb: I’m Jaz Parks. My boss is Vayl, born in Romania in 1744. Died there too, at the hand of his vampire wife, Liliana. But that’s ancient history. For the moment Vayl works for the C.I.A. doing what he does best–assassination. And I help. You could say I’m an Assistant Assassin. But then I’d have to kick your ass.
Our current assignment seemed easy. Get close to a Miami plastic surgeon named Assan, a charmer with ties to terrorism that run deeper than a buried body. Find out what he’s meeting with that can help him and his comrades bring America to her knees. And then close his beady little eyes forever. Why is it that nothing’s ever as easy as it seems?

Dream of Danger - (un)Conventional BookviewsDream of Danger (Brown and DeLuca #1.5) by Maggie Shayne (This novella is a kindle freebie)
Blurb: Murder brought self-help guru Rachel de Luca and Detective Mason Brown together. Their shared secrets drove them apart. But now they’re together again in this riveting novella that begins where New York Times bestselling author Maggie Shayne’s Sleep with the Lights On ended.
She may have been blind for twenty years, but Rachel’s always had an uncanny gift for seeing through people—and she distrusts her assistant’s new boyfriend at first sight. Amy isn’t interested in Rachel’s misgivings, though. She’s too eager to celebrate Thanksgiving by introducing her family to the new man in her life.
Then Amy doesn’t show up for the holiday….
Desperate to find her missing friend, Rachel has no choice but to turn to Mason. Their investigation into Amy’s disappearance takes them ever deeper into danger—and reignites the attraction that they’ve both sworn to resist. Now it’s a race against time as these reluctant partners fight to stave off passion and save a life.

Unteachable - (un)Conventional BookviewsUnteachable by Leah Raeder (Only $0.99)
Blurb: I met him at a carnival, of all corny places. The summer I turned eighteen, in that chaos of neon lights and cheap thrills, I met a man so sweet, so beautiful, he seemed to come from another world. We had one night: intense, scary, real. Then I ran, like I always do. Because I didn’t want to be abandoned again.
But I couldn’t run far enough.
I knew him as Evan that night. When I walked into his classroom, he became Mr. Wilke.
My teacher.
I don’t know if what we’re doing is wrong. The rules say one thing; my heart says screw the rules. I can’t let him lose his job. And I can’t lose him.
In the movies, this would have a happy ending. I grow up. I love, I lose, I learn. And I move on. But this is life, and there’s no script. You make it up as you go along.
And you don’t pray for a happy ending. You pray for it to never end.

Closer - (un)Conventional BookviewsCloser by Dannika Dark
Blurb: Kane never believed in things like fate or karma. Not until the night he took a life.
Within the human world is a secret society of immortals and gifted supernaturals. Kane is one of them—a Sensor who experiences emotional energy through touch. But despite his good looks and easy-going personality, Kane lives a solitary life. Unlike other Sensors, he is unnaturally hypersensitive.
Touch brings pain.
Fate throws a curveball when a woman’s life is placed in his hands. Kane is suddenly faced with a difficult decision, each with its own moral consequence, and time is not on his side.
Will she be his salvation, or his ruination?

Love My Way - (un)Conventional BookviewsLove My Way by Karen Booth
Blurb: After her fiancé penned a “Dear Katie” letter, Kate Stillman vowed she’d never give a man more than one night.
Free from emotional entanglements, she’s had some hot one-night stands, her heart has stayed off-limits and her photography career has skyrocketed. It’s the perfect plan until a Miami getaway brings her face-to-face with Peter Barrett.
Hunky rocker Peter has been pursuing Katie from afar ever since she photographed his band. In the flesh, it’s clear it was more than flirtation. Katie gives in to their sizzling chemistry, thinking Peter will appreciate her one-night rule. Instead, he balks and extends an invitation for a second night of pure abandon, an offer too tempting to refuse. When they part, Katie realizes her rule protected her heart only too well. Time away from Peter leaves her wanting him more. Every steamy late-night phone call makes her wonder if she can love again. But when Peter returns and her trust is tested, Katie must overcome her past to learn that love her way was never the way at all.

What books did you get this week? Is there one in particular you are really excited about? Please leave me a link so I can come check out your Stacking the Shelves as well.

Thanks for stopping by, have a spectacular Saturday!

    • I haven’t started this series yet, but I’ve seen it mentioned so many places I just needed to get my hands on the first book.

Thanks for stopping by, Melliane 🙂

      Have a great weekend.

  1. Jessica @ a GREAT read

Ooh nice! I LOVED Jennifer Rardin’s series! Was devastated a few years back when she passed away. It’s a fun and entertaining one! Hope you enjoy it too!

My STS will be up tomorrow, so be sure to stop by then!

    Have a GREAT weekend!

    Old Follower 🙂

    • Oh, I love having books that can keep me hot on cold winter nights, I hope you’re right and that these will do that.

Thanks for stopping by, Grace 🙂

    • You are much better than me when it comes to Netgalley, then, Tsuki. I have so much trouble when it comes to clicking 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by.

  2. OMG! I know this will NOT come as a shock, Lexxie but I want to read every single book you’ve listed here! Some are already on my ereader! (Of course, I’ve already read Love My Way – I hope you like it, too 🙂 ) I have to say I’m experiencing some envy right now…because my lineup for the week doesn’t include any of these books! *haha* I want to lick the cover of Ruin. 😉 Well, I guess I’ll live vicariously through you when I read your reviews. *sigh* And read faster! 😉

    Happy Reading!! *hugs*

    • I hope I’ll love Love My Way as well, as well as all the others. I hope I won’t make you wait for too long… I haven’t read anything these past few days – I don’t know why, I just haven’t felt like it.

Thanks for stopping by, Brandee! *hugs*

    • You’re welcome, Lyn. I do the same in my reviews, need to show Booklikes my love, you know 🙂 I hope we’ll both enjoy Unteachable.

      Thanks for stopping by.

    • I wanted to get Unteachable because I read a review of Slammed (which I loved) by someone who didn’t enjoy it, but said that they might have liked it better if they had read it before Unteachable. I get why it’s a little iffy, though – but since it’s fiction, I’m OK with that (or mabybe I won’t be 😉 )

      Thanks for stopping by!

    • Thanks Stormi. I don’t know when I’ll be able to read all these books – but I just had to get them 😉

      Thanks for stopping by.

    • Oh me, too, Michelle. Romance is one of my favorites! Even if I enjoy lots of other genres as well, romance is my feel-good genre.

      Thanks for stopping by.
