Sidekick Saturday #4 – Loyal
Sidekick Saturday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Jaclyn at JC’s Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. In some cases, the sidekicks actually steal the show and you like them better than the heroine or hero. Maybe they didn’t have enough page time for how great they were. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Choose a sidekick *or someone other than the hero or heroine* that you would like to put in the spotlight that fits in this week’s type
• Share a picture (if possible) and information about the character
• Give the title and author of a book the character can be found in
• Please don’t include too many spoilers when describing why the character is such a great sidekick
• Put your link in the Linky thing and comment
This week, Jaclyn has chosen a loyal side character, and there are quite a few to choose from, don’t you think?
My favorite loyal side-character is easy-peasy! It’s Eve from Rachel Caine’s Morganville Vampires series! Eve never fails to amaze me! She is loyal to a fault – towards her boyfriend Michael, of course, but also towards both Shane and the MC: Claire. If Eve is your friend, she will defend you with everything she’s got, she’ll always believe in you, and she will do her best to make you feel better if you’re a little down. I love that Eve is the one they can all go to if they’re in need of help, or just someone to lean on, or someone to chat with. And even being loyal, Eve is always true to herself!
Here are some fun quotes that involve Eve :
“Eve: She told me last!
Shane: Boyfriend!
Michael: Landlord!
Eve: Crap. Right. Next time you sell your soul to the devil, I get first contact!” ≈ from Midnight Alley
“No, not you two. Stay here.”
“Does he just not get how unfair and sexist that is?” Eve asked. “Men.”
“You really want to go first?”
“Of course no. But I’d like the chance to refuse to go first.” ≈ from Lord of Misrule
“I don’t see a way in,” Eve whispered.
Why are you whispering?” Myrnin whispered back. “Vampires can hear us, anyway.” ≈ From Fade Out
“That’s it? That’s your big goodbye?” Eve asked.
Claire looked at Eve mystified. “I think I need guy CliffNotes.”
“Guys aren’t deep enough to need CliffNotes.”
“What were you waiting for, flowery poetry?” Shane snorted. “I hugged. I’m done.” ≈ From Lord of Misrule
These quotes don’t specifically show Eve’s loyalty, but the circumstances around them kind of do… since I’m trying to not spoil stuff, though, I am not going to search for more Eve quotes. The quotes do show how awesome she is, though 😉
What about you? Who’s your favoirite loyal sidekick? Please do share 🙂
I haven’t read this series, need to check it out!
It’s one of my favorite series, when you have some time, you should get to it 🙂
This is one of my all time favorite series. Eve is my book bestie. Come on, she bedazzles her stakes. She delivers the best lines (along with Shane). And she’s plain cool. I loved reading the quotes. Great pick!
YAY – Eve is excellent 🙂 I agree that she and Shane have the best lines, too.
I’m a big Eve fan. You are right about her loyalty. Even in a particular part when she can’t really be their friends, she still loves them just knows they broke her heart and they weren’t them. Anyway, I can’t say more on that for fear of spoiling, but I’m sure you know what I mean. She definitely is loyal to them and an excellent choice for this. Love the quotes!! Jaclyn @ JC’s Book Haven.
I know exactly what you mean – and I had to be careful about the quotes I used so nothing would be spoiled for anyone…
Have you read Fall of Night yet? I need to write my review – but that book just blew me away!
I haven’t read that one yet. I’m actually scared to read it without there being one to follow it LOL. As soon as number 15 comes out, I’ll give it a go.
Perfect choice, Lexxie! I love Eve…and the Morganville series. Eve is so very loyal but I like that you point out she remains true to herself along with being so loyal. She’s awesome! Did I tell you I met Rachel at RT? I started reading her because we graduated from the same university! LOL!
Lucky you to have met Rachel! I was supposed to meet her when I was in London recently, but she was so busy, and our schedules were never free at the same time 🙁 I need to come to the US for a con next year!!
Thanks for stopping by – I love that you started reading Rachel Caine’s books because you graduated form the same university 🙂
Ahhh the Morganville Vampire Series – another one on my reading list (story of my life) but I do love a good loyal sidekick and I’m digging the sound of Eve 😀 Thanks for sharing!!
Oh, yes, Eve is definitely a great sidekick! But then again, all the characters in the Morganville series are really well done!
Thanks for taking the time to comment Micheline 🙂
