Review: Stormdancer (The Lotus War #1) – Jay Kristoff

Review: Stormdancer (The Lotus War #1) – Jay Kristoff

*I received a free ARC of Stormdancer from Tor UK via Netgalley in order to write an honest review of this book* The glimpses into Yukiko’s past through the flashbacks are heartbreaking! It explains so much about her, and at the same time, it makes me want that she could still have the innocence, as well as the fellowship she had with her brother and Buruu. It also is an excellent way of providing the back-story, without resorting to info dumping. On that note, I also thought that the maps at the beginning of the book served this kind of purpose as well. Great way to let the readers know about the world, and how things work, with only two […]

Lucretia and the Kroons – Victor LaValle

Lucretia and the Kroons – Victor LaValle

*I received a free ARC of Lucretia and the Kroons from Random House via Netgalley in exchange an honest review.*   Loochie’s brother Louis explains something about horrors to her, saying “But being young doesn’t protect you. Horrors are for kids, too.” At that moment Louis stared into the distance and seemed truly sad for having to reveal a truth like that to his little sister. Fifty Shames of Earl Grey (Fifty Shames #1) – Fanny Merkin aka Andrew Shaffer

Fifty Shames of Earl Grey (Fifty Shames #1) – Fanny Merkin aka Andrew Shaffer

*I received a free ARC of Fifty Shames of Earl Grey from DaCapo Press  via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review* I read the first couple of chapters of Fifty Shames of Earl Grey when they were on Shaffer’s blog, and I found the writing to be hilarious! This whole book is fan-fricking-tastic. The snark goes from win to win, and I couldn’t read more than a few sentences at a time without laughing (sometimes, it was every single sentence). And the way it pokes fun at every thing in pop culture from literature to music to strange sexual fixations is way excellent. Review: Forever and a Day (Lucky Harbor #6) – Jill Shalvis

Review: Forever and a Day (Lucky Harbor #6) – Jill Shalvis

*I got a free copy of Forever and a Day from the Grand Central via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.*  Forever and a Day is my favorite Lucky Harbor novel, I like it even more than I liked At last! Grace is a little clumsy, but such a cute heroine anyway, and Scott is the forbidding doctor who thinks he doesn’t have time for love. The Next Best Thing – Jennifer Weiner

The Next Best Thing – Jennifer Weiner

*I received a free ARC of The Next Best Thing from Atria Books via netgalley in exchange of an honest review.* The Next Best Thing is simply delightful! It’s the only word I can use to describe it accurately. It tickled my funny bones, tugged at my heartstrings and made me root for Ruthie from the first sentence. All of the main characters seem so real to me that I wish they existed in real life. Ruthie needs a girlfriend, and I want to be that for her. Ruthie has gone through a lot more hard times than most people, but she never lets herself give up. When bad things happen, she will cry and mope, and then get herself […]

At Last (Lucky Harbor #5) – Jill Shalvis

At Last (Lucky Harbor #5) – Jill Shalvis

*I got a free ARC of At Last from Forever via netgalley in exchange of an honest review* At Last is sweet, hot, romantic, delightful and touching. Amy is so sweet and insecure, even if she is hiding behind a pretty tough armour not to show what she is feeling at any time. Matt is hot – good thing he only exists in a story, or I might have had to try to find Lucky Harbor on a map and go on a trip *grins* The chocolate quotes at the beginning of each chapter had me each time – so funny, and oh so accurate. Chocolate can solve almost any problem that can ever arise. I love how both Amy […]

Amazing Grace – Eve Gaddy

Amazing Grace – Eve Gaddy

*I received a free ARC of Amazing Grace from Netgalley* Amazing Grace is a sweet contemporary romance, which takes place in Hell, Texas. Max decides early on that Gracie is not a part of a human trafficking ring, but he still can’t tell her what his real job is. Something is not right at the Sherriff’s office, and he has to find out what it is. Max and Gracie play a little game of seduction, and although Gracie is very inexperienced and Max is a bit of a player, Gracie manages to catch him completely off guard. Some very hot moments ensue, I had to stop reading for a while when I was in public because I got a little […]

The Tycoon’s Secret Daughter – Susan Meier

The Tycoon’s Secret Daughter – Susan Meier

*I received an e-ARC of The Tycoon’s Secret Daughter from Netgalley* The Tycoon’s Secret Daughter completely grabbed me from the start! Max and Kate meeting in the lobby of the hospital, and just the few moments they spend there, where Kate realizes Max has stopped drinking, and Max realizes that he has a daughter – WOW! It is clear from the start that Max is still in love with Kate, although he is upset about only getting to know Trisha when she’s seven years old as well.  The first meeting between father and daughter is pretty awkward, but it seems so real, exactly how I would imagine a grown man would interact with a little girl who’s his daughter, but […]
