Review ~ Well Played ~ Jen DeLuca

Review ~ Well Played ~ Jen DeLuca

I was super excited for Well Played since it was Stacey’s book. I felt connected to her in some way that I didn’t feel with Emily (Well Met). While I did enjoy Well Played, it wasn’t all I’d been hoping for. What Worked: Plot/Trope I enjoyed this twist on Cyrano. JDLuca did a brilliant job in developing this romance via emails and texts. Seeing Stacey and D be vulnerable with one another using the safety of written communication was…well, sweet. Characters Stacey, for the most part, delivered on her perky, fun personality. And it was nice getting to know D in this way, especially since we knew nothing about him. Family Dynamics Stacey’s close relationship with her parents – especially […]

Review: Someone Else’s Love Letter – Deborah Blumenthal

Review: Someone Else’s Love Letter – Deborah Blumenthal

Someone Else’s Love Letter had a great premise, but I never felt like I became a part of the story of fully invested in the characters. I fell in love with the premise of Someone Else’s Love Letter as soon as I read the summary, and at the very beginning of the story I was a happy reader indeed! Sage seemed to have everything going for her, and she was determined to figure out who had written the love letter she found in the back of a cab. The story quickly turned into a sort of puzzle where there seems to be either some pieces too many, or a few pieces short in some ways. There are a lot of […]

Review: The Canterbury Sisters – Kim Wright

Review: The Canterbury Sisters – Kim Wright

The Canterbury Sisters is a tale of eight women, walking the Canterbury trail from London to the Cathedral in Canterbury, following in Chaucer’s steps, each sharing their stories, searching for redemption and a reason to keep on. My The Canterbury Sisters review: The Canterbury Sisters isn’t the first book about pilgrimage I have absolutely loved. I think that taking the time to go on a specific walk, think about our life, our choices, how to continue moving forward is something very special. And I would really like to do my own pilgrimage one day. Just to be away from the stress of daily life, away from electronics, one with myself and my thoughts and beliefs. It is something that definitely […]

Review: It’s In His Kiss – Jill Shalvis

Review: It’s In His Kiss – Jill Shalvis

*I received a free ARC of It’s In His Kiss from Forever (Grand Central Publishing) via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review* Hot, sweet and romantic, It’s In His Kiss is an awesome new installment in the Lucky Harbor series. My It’s In His Kiss review: It’s In His Kiss is incredibly sweet and filled with longing. Becca has arrived in Lucky Harbor to try to patch her life back together, and she has quite a few issues she needs to work through. But Sexy Grumpy Surfer aka Sam makes it difficult for Becca to focus, which leads to quite a few funny and hot scenes. As usual, the sense of community in Lucky Harbor reaches out to Becca, […]

Review: Then Came You – Jill Shalvis

Review: Then Came You – Jill Shalvis

*I received a free ARC of Then Came You from Penguin Group Berkley via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review* Then Came You hit exactly the right spot, a perfect balance of romance, friendship, hotness and cute animals – I loved how this story unfolded from start to finish. My Then Came You review: Then Came You has everything I look for in a contemporary romance story: likable characters, something that makes one of them think their relationship won’t or shouldn’t work, some very hot romantic tension and a great story where I want to go back and read all of the prior Animal Magnetism stories that came before it. There is, of course, also an underlying humor following […]

Review: Rock Chick (Rock Chick #1) – Kristen Ashley

Review: Rock Chick (Rock Chick #1) – Kristen Ashley

Rock Chick is an outrageously funny tale! I haven’t had so much fun reading a book in ages 😀 Indy is a true rock chick, she is funny, sweet, competent and loyal, and I loved everything about her. She has been in love with Lee, her best friend Ally’s older brother, her whole life. When things finally go the way she’s always wanted, she is a little confused at first. Especially because she’s in the middle of something that doesn’t really have anything to do with her. Rock Chick is well written, with round characters I can’t wait to read more about, and both friendship, suspense and love are the main ingredients of the story. And even if the story […]

Taken with You (The Kowalskis #8) – Shannon Stacey

Taken with You (The Kowalskis #8) – Shannon Stacey

*I received a free ARC of Taken with You from Carina Press via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review* Taken with You is set in Whitford, like other Kowalski books, but this time, those hunky and hard-bodied Kowalski boys aren’t among the main characters. Matt is an awesome male lead, though, even if he does jump to conclusions a little quickly sometimes, and Hailey really needed some hot romance in her life. She’s lived in Whitfield for most of her life, and she would love to stay, but there are no interesting men there. Also, she really wants to have a family, and she can practically hear her own biological clock ticking away. There is a lot of humor […]

#COYER Review: Mad About You – Joan Kilby

#COYER Review: Mad About You – Joan Kilby

*I received a free ARC of Mad About You from Entangled Publishing via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review* Mad About You has one of the tropes I enjoy the most in contemporary romances – the friends to lovers trope. Cassy and Scott have been friends since they were kids, best friends, even, and that shows in their early interactions of the story. However, as they both start to admit to their feelings – if only to themselves – their relationship becomes a little stilted and weird. Of course, there is plenty of fun and hotness in Mad About You, but I never really got all that attached to the characters, and that made me a little sad, especially […]

#COYER Reveiw: Waking Up Pregnant – Mira Lyn Kelly

#COYER Reveiw: Waking Up Pregnant – Mira Lyn Kelly

*I received a free ARC of Waking Up Pregnant from Harlequin KISS via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review* Waking Up Pregnant is kind of like a mix between a modern fairy-tale and a quirky contemporary romance, and it is fun, sweet, hot and romantic packed in a neat wrapping. The characters are really well fleshed out, too, and as Darcy and Jeff fall in love, they are both hiding their true feelings – from themselves and each other. Starting in the middle of the story, Waking Up Pregnant gets right into the difficulty of the subject – Darcy has come to Jeff’s office, three months after their one night together in Vegas, and before she can even say […]

#COYER Review: Once in a Lifetime (Lucky Harbor #9) – Jill Shalvis

*I received a free ARC of Once in a Lifetime from Forever (Grand Central Publishing) via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review* There is something so familiar and utterly satisfying about Lucky Harbor – and Once in a Lifetime hit exactly the right spot! Aubrey and Ben are both very attaching characters, I could relate to them, and I could like them – even if neither of them are perfect! Aubrey is not exactly satisfied with the way her life is going at the beginning of Once in  a Lifetime, and when she accidentally throws her drink in Ben’s face, before running away, she has an uncomfortable run-in with her ex. When she leaves, Aubrey somehow finds herself in […]
