Review ~ Sugarcoated ~ Erin Nicholas

Review ~ Sugarcoated ~ Erin Nicholas

Sugarcoated served as my gateway to all things ENicholas and it was a treat. 😉 Her writing style made for easy reading and her characters were engaging. I’m eager to read more from this series. I buddy read Sugarcoated with my friend, Sophia Rose. 😀 What Worked: Plot/Trope As a brother’s best friend/little sister rom-com, I delighted in the setup. Aiden is Zoe’s older brother’s best friend and they grew up together in a small town. When Zoe decides she wants to punch her V-card, she can’t think of anyone she’d be more comfortable with than Aiden. Aiden has other ideas though so he turns her down until he can put his plans in order and deploy them. Unfortunately, part […]

Audio Review ~ Drowning to Breathe ~ A.L. Jackson

Audio Review ~ Drowning to Breathe ~ A.L. Jackson

After that cliffhanger ending in A Stone in the Sea, I had to dive right into Drowning to Breathe. It was imperative to see if Baz could redeem himself – in my eyes – and whether or not he and Shea had what it took to go the distance. All secrets have been revealed now and Shea and Baz find their pasts intertwined, interconnected in ways they could never have imagined. Now they have to decide if their love is worth fighting for when the elements of their pasts will attempt to use their weaknesses – each other and Callie – against them. I didn’t understand why Shea hadn’t explained her past to Baz before because it was going to […]

Review ~ Broken Records ~ Bree Bennett

Review ~ Broken Records ~ Bree Bennett

Broken Records. WOW. This book made quite the impression on me. My friend, Lorna, recommended it, saying she’d put it on her favorite rock star romances of all-time. High praise. And after finishing it, much deserved. Broken Records is unique in the rock star romance genre, with more mature characters and much less after-concert partying, but Lucy and Jack wormed their way into my heart. I love them! Lucy has recently relocated to NYC. She’s a…wait for it…technical writer (my career in my previous life) and she’s running from or hiding from something. She’s also neurodiverse…on the spectrum. Her inability to deal with an overload of sensory input – too many people, too much light or sound – made her […]

Audio Review ~ A Stone in the Sea ~ A.L. Jackson

I read A Stone in the Sea as part of Brandee & Linda’s Excellent Reading Challenge Adventure challenge – Monthly Keyword Reading Challenge. It’s been a sec since I read ALJackson and while I’d forgotten that her books lean toward melodrama, I did enjoy meeting Shea, Callie, and Sebastian “Baz”. Shea is a young woman doing her best to raise her young daughter on her own. She’s living in Savannah, a place that’ll always be home due to her fondest childhood memories being wrapped up in this city. Her grandma and her grandma’s home, which she inherited, offer her comfort and safety. Shea is kind and loving but not really living life fully – not as a young woman should. […]

Review ~ Runed ~ Kendall Grey

Review ~ Runed ~ Kendall Grey

Runed was, in a word, ZANY. Another word? FUN! This was the book chosen for reading on the way home from Book Bonanza. My friend, Denise, did some wacky calculation to pick it but I’m so happy we gave it a go. There was lots of laughing. 🙂 Loki – yes, that Loki – awakes buried in snow and ice. His first concern is getting out of said snow and ice. Next order of business? Dealing with the fact he is now a she. Since there seems to be nothing he, er, she can do about the body she now inhabits, she must focus on finding her runes. Yes, those runes that provide intuition, among other things. Most importantly, immortality. […]

Review ~ Book Boyfriend ~ Claire Kingsley

Review ~ Book Boyfriend ~ Claire Kingsley

The premise of Book Boyfriend resonated with me. Finding a boyfriend in real life that equally as fabulous, if not more so, as those we find in books? Yes, please! Amiright? I was so happy that Book Boyfriend delivered on its promise. Mia is the quintessential bookworm. Someone I’d be friends with due to our love of perusing bookshops for hours, discussing books, and, of course, arguing over book boyfriends. 😉 She’s a closet book blogger, with not a small amount of success and has forged many online friendships with readers and authors. These friendships, one in particular, are lifelines when she wants to discuss things like books or bad dates because her family doesn’t really get her. Alex left […]

Review ~ Further to Fall ~ Catherine Cowles

Review ~ Further to Fall ~ Catherine Cowles

I picked up Further to Fall from my virtual bookshelf because CCowles was an attending author at Book Bonanza and seeing as I’d acquired several of her books, I thought I’d give her a try. 😉 Further to Fall was a nice introduction to CCowles and her writing which is a good thing considering I have more of her backlist to read. 😀 Carter McCarthy is a newly minted teacher from Georgia who’s found her way to L.A. She’s taken a job in a low-income district, determined to make a difference. Carter is everything you want in an elementary school teacher. She’s kind, compassionate, and creative. Her students quickly respond to her and you know she’s making that difference. She’s […]

Review ~ Misconduct ~ Penelope Douglas

Review ~ Misconduct ~ Penelope Douglas

With Misconduct, PDouglas cemented her place as one of my all-time favorite authors. Misconduct takes two familiar tropes – age-gap plus off-limits romance – and makes them fresh and utterly gripping. When I wasn’t reading about Easton and Tyler, I was thinking about them. So, so good! Easton is a former junior tennis star who gave up that life as circumstances dictated. Those circumstances have kept her distrusting and leery of men and relationships. She keeps to herself and is only close with her brother. She’s embarking on a new career in teaching and with her brother at her back, she’s poised to make a difference. Tyler is a self-made very wealthy man. Having made a name for himself in […]

Audio Review ~ Lothaire ~ Kresley Cole

Audio Review ~ Lothaire ~ Kresley Cole

Lothaire is a character I’ve long looked forward to learning more about. He’s the Enemy of Old to be sure but I’ve found him to be quite a lot of fun, too. I was excited to get his book. Even more so to see what kind of woman would bring him to his knees. Ellie – Elizabeth to Lothaire – was a spitfire of a girl. Growing up in the mountains of Appalachia and enduring what the mines did to her family only sharpened the girl she was. She was whip-smart, witty, tenacious, resourceful, and determined. That she’d been inhabited by a demoness and ended up on death row after the occupier went on a killing spree was nothing Ellie […]

Review ~ All In ~ Emma Scott

Review ~ All In ~ Emma Scott

All In… *sigh* Why was I so afraid to be All In?!? I was rather devastated at the end of Full Tilt. Devastated in a beautiful way but destroyed nonetheless. I’m certain that’s why I put off All In. However, if anyone can take something so raw and painful and make it beautiful, it’s Emma Scott. And she was All In. Kasey and Theo lost Jonah but before he died, he extracted promises from them both. Two months after, though, Kasey is struggling too much with memories and the feelings they evoke so she heads to NOLA. There, without her support network, she hits rock bottom. Oh, she goes through the motions of living but inside she’s slowly dying. Luckily, […]
