Challenge Updates – August

Posted 1 September, 2015 by Linda @ (un)Conventional Bookworms in Challenges / 12 Comments

WOW, August definitely flew by fast! I can’t believe we’ve already started the first month of fall, even if I’m really happy to finally have some cooler weather! I have continued to do quite well in most of my challenges, and as usual, I have one post for all – I don’t want to spam people with several posts about all those challenges.

2015 Reading Assignment Challenge Update – August

For the Reading Assignment Challenge, I challenged myself to read 48 books – four each month – of books I’ve had on my kindle for a while. This is the only challenge where I have decided in advance which books I will read this year, and so, now it’s starting to get harder. This challenge is hosted by the lovely Berls @ Fantasy is More Fun and Michelle @ Because Reading. I’m happy to share that I am on track with this challenge, I have used no bonuses or anything, four books from my list every month, and these are the books I’ve read and reviewed for August:

  1. The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
  2. Will Grayson, Will Grayson by David Levithan
  3. Magic Breaks by Ilona Andrews
  4. Once Bitten, Twice Shy by Jennifer Rardin

New Release Challenge (un)Conventional Bookviews

2015 New Release Challenge Update – August

This is a challenge I host with Stormi @ Books, Movies, Reviews Oh My! As I often buy new releases, and am lucky enough to get quite a few eARCs every year, I figured I needed a challenge to stay on track with new releases as well. I have signed myself up as a new release enthusiast, which means 45+ books, and I want to reach 100 for 2015. So far, I have read and reviewed 71 new releases, so I’m definitely on track here as well. These are the books that count for August :

  1. The Last Time We Say Goodbye by Cynthia Hand
  2. Tough Love by Lori Foster
  3. Forever Grace by Linda Poitevin
  4. The Devil Takes a Bride by Julia London
  5. Taking the Heat by Victoria Dahl
  6. The Secret Sister by Brenda Novak
  7. The Distance Between Us by Kasie West
  8. Too Hot to Handle by Katie Rose
  9. The One Thing by Marci Lyn Curtis
  10. Two Minutes by Dannika Dark
  11. Knight of Ocean Avenue by Tara Lain
  12. The Royal We by Heather Cocks, Jessica Morgan
  13. The Drafter by Kim Harrison

Audiobook Challenge 2015

2015 Audiobook Challenge Update – August

This challenge is hosted by Loupe @ Hot Listens and Jennifer @ The Book Nympho. I don’t listen to enough audiobooks, and so this challenge is to keep me listening rather than only reading myself. I’ve been off to a very slow start, but I’m starting to pick up speed, I just may make my goal of 12 audiobooks yet.

I listened to one audiobook in August, Rock Courtship (Rock Kiss #1.5) by Nalini Singh, but I haven’t had a chance to post my review yet.

Bookish Resolution Challenge - (un)Conventional Bookviews

2015 Bookish Resolutions Challenge Update – August

This challenge is hosted by Michelle @ Because Reading and Laura @ Trips Down Imagination Road. My resolutions for this challenge are quite simple (but not that simple…) I want to read more of the books I own – not ARCs, but books I’ve purchased, or kindle freebies, or convention titles, and then write reviews! I am always better at writing reviews for my ARCs than I am for the books I have bought. I also want to do more discussion posts – still lagging a bit there, but I have written some this year. Yet another resolution is to listen to more audiobooks. And lastly, to stop smoking. Now, I’m still smoking, but I’m making progress on the other points. Here is a list of my own books that I have read and reviewed in August:

  1. Bring on the Heat by Katie Rose
  2. The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
  3. The Distance Between Us by Kasie West
  4. Will Grayson, Will Grayson by David Levithan
  5. Hot Head by Damon Suede
  6. Magic Breaks by Ilona Andrews
  7. Once Bitten, Twice Shy by Jennifer Rardin

2015 TBR Pile Challenge - (un)Conventional Bookviews

2015 TBR Pile Reading Challenge Update – August

This is another challenge to get those books I own off my TBR pile, and read them as well as review them. This challenges is hosted by Bookish. I have now exceeded the number of books I had challenged myself to read for this one, and I’m really happy about that! For August, those titles are :

  1. Bring on the Heat by Katie Rose
  2. The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
  3. The Distance Between Us by Kasie West
  4. Will Grayson, Will Grayson by David Levithan
  5. Hot Head by Damon Suede
  6. Magic Breaks by Ilona Andrews
  7. Once Bitten, Twice Shy by Jennifer Rardin

LGBTChallenge2015

2015 LGBT Challenge Update – August

I love diversity in books, and reading stories that have LGBTQ characters is a way to have more diversity both in my books and in my life in general. This challenge is hosted by Cayce @ Niji Feels. I’m doing well on this challenge, too, and I have read some amazing books thanks to other participants! Here’s a list of the books I read and reviewed for the LGBT challenge in August:

  1. Will Grayson, Will Grayson by David Levithan
  2. Knight of Ocean Avenue by Tara Lain
  3. Hot Head by Damon Suede

I will do a COYER wrap-up post on Friday *cries* since the summer COYER scavenger hunt will be over then.

    • The challenges all kind of go together, though, so since I read, I figured I might as well use the extra motivation of the challenges, too 🙂
I’m not ready to try the e-cig, I want to completely stop – even if that hasn’t happened yet.

  1. You continue to *rock* your challenges! Good for you, Lexxie! *high five* You’re making such good progress and I do count that as success even if the quitting smoking hasn’t gone as you’d like it to. Baby steps, right?
How’s the exercise coming? Have you been able to get to a class since you’ve been teaching? I did yoga this morning with a very *bendy* substitute. LOL I hope to take a walk later this afternoon. Miss you!! **BIG HUGS**

    • Yeah, I’m really doing well, I’m amazed about the HW challenge, especially. It’s getting harder and harder to choose my books now, though. There are fewer books to choose from so I need to stay on top of that.
My week was off to a good start, Brandee, but I’m so tired these days! *BIG HUGS*

    • Oh my goodness, Braine, and I would have totally gotten that if we were together and not in front of or screens. Just please don’t give it away the very next day!!
I am starting to really enjoy audiobooks, but I read much, much faster, so my kindle is still my favorite 🙂

  2. Wow, I´m impressed. So many challenges, and you´re keeping up with all of them 🙂 Jeg skulle gjerne vært med på mange flere utfordringer, men tiden strekker ikke alltid til. Men det er utrolig inspirerende å følge med deg 🙂 Klemmer i fleng fra Anette 🙂
