Stacking The Shelves #21

Stacking The Shelves, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

Participating in Stacking The Shelves has helped me to keep better track of books I’m adding to my huge TBR pile every week, and I think I have gotten a little better at not adding too many books every single week. Participating in this blog-hop has also introduced me to more new blogs, and some weeks, I add more books to my ‘might-read-one-day’ shelf than I should, but before I actually have the books on my kindle, nothing has been decided yet.

Netgalley ARCs:

Come Home to Me cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsCome Home to Me (Whiskey Creek #6) – Brenda Novak. I love this series so much! And I really look forward to catching up with my friends in Whiskey Creek again.

Summary: Home is where her heart is…
When Presley Christensen returns to Whiskey Creek with her little boy after two years away, she has completely changed her life. She’s made peace with her past and overcome the negative behavior that resulted from her difficult childhood. Now she’s back in the small town that was the closest thing to home she ever knew;the town where she can be with the sister who’s her only family.
There’s just one catch. Aaron Amos still lives in Whiskey Creek, at least until he moves to Placerville to open a branch of the Amos brothers’ auto body shop. And no matter how hard she’s tried, Presley hasn’t been able to get over him. Seeing him again makes the longing so much worse. But she hopes she can get through the next few months, because she can’t fall back into his arms;or his bed. She’s come too far to backslide now. And there’s a secret she’s been guarding;a secret she’ll do anything to protect.

Kindle Freebies:

Anathema cover - (un)Conventional Bookviews Anathema (Casual Enchantment #1) – K.A. Tucker

Summary: Evangeline has spent her teenage years in obscurity. Her foster parents have the emotional aptitude of robots and her classmates barely acknowledge her existence. About to turn eighteen and feeling like a social pariah, she is desperate to connect with someone. Anyone.
When Evangeline meets Sophie after literally stumbling upon her café, she believes she’s found that connection. Willing to do anything to keep it, she accepts a job as Sofie’s assistant and drops everything to fly to Manhattan, where she is thrust into a luxurious world of Prada, diamonds, and limitless cash.
With such generosity and kindness, it’s easy for Evangeline to dismiss certain oddities… like Sofie’s erratic and sometimes violent behavior, and the monstrous guard dogs. She’s even willing to dismiss her vivid dreams of mob-style murders, beautiful homeless people living in caves, and white-eyed demons that haunt her each night as figments of her imagination—especially when one of those figments is the gorgeous Caden. When she wakes up with bite marks on her neck, the fairy tale quickly turns into a nightmare. She slowly unravels the mystery surrounding Sofie and friends, and the reality of the bites and the “dreams.” What she discovers is far more mysterious and terrible than anything she could have imagined.
In a world where everyone has motive to lie for personal gain, Evangeline must decide which deception is least likely to get her killed.

Croc and the Fox cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsCroc and the Fox (Furry United Coalition #3) – Eve Langlais

Summary: Warning: An ornery croc discovers he does have a pulse when a hot to trot fox decides to latch on, and never let go. Tongue in cheek humor, sizzling moments and a tiny, evil villain await.
A career military man, Viktor lives for the next mission – and his collection of weapons — but a raid on an experimental lab makes him an unwilling protector, mostly because he can’t peel Renee off. A cold blooded croc, he never intended to settle down, but he didn’t count on a foxy lady warming his heart.
The world outside the laboratory was a big scary place. Unsure of how to deal with it, Renee latches onto the biggest, baddest, and sexiest, warrior around. Sharp toothed and with ice in his veins, Viktor’s violent side should have sent her running, but instead, she finds the courage to face her fears –and tame the lizard.
When danger comes knocking, with the intention of turning her lizard into a high priced fashion accessory, will Renee embrace her foxy side and show a croc she’s got what it takes to be his mate?
And will they finally vanquish the evil known as mastermind?

Lion and the Falcon cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsLion and the Falcon (Furry United Coalition #4) – Eve Langlais

Summary: What’s a poor feline to do when trouble strikes from every direction?
Find a pillow and a patch of sunlight for a relaxing nap, or realize that sometimes a lion needs to make new rules and show a stubborn falcon he’s more than just a handsome kitty?
Avian Soaring Security has transferred Clarice to the Furry United Coalition so she can help track some escaped psycho patients. As if that weren’t bad enough, they partnered her with the very pampered Dr. Manners. Everything about the attractive feline annoys her, except for his flaming hot kisses. But is passion enough to keep a usually sparring species together?
Nolan’s pedigree isn’t the only thing preventing him from falling for his sexy partner. She’s bossy, violent, rude and oh so intriguing to this curious cat, but his meddlesome mother will never allow him to get involved with a bird. But before he can decide if love is worth bucking pride tradition, he needs to stay out of the clutches of a demented ex-patient

Doe and the Wolf cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsDoe and the Wolf (Furry United Coalition #5) – Eve Langlais

Summary: What happens when a predator falls for his prey?
Bounty hunting is the perfect job for a maverick wolf; flexible hours, decent pay, the thrill of the chase. But Everett never counted on a doe stopping him in his furry tracks.
Dawn was a prisoner of Mastermind and ended up experimented on, against her wishes. On the run from Furry United Coalition agents, she ends up in the arms—and bed—of a lupine bounty hunter. Instinct tells her to run when she gets a chance because everyone knows not to trust the big, bad wolf, but her heart begs her to stay.
When the result of genetics gone wrong rears its mutated head and threatens both of their lives, will they manage to survive and discover if a wolf deserves a happily ever after?

The Undead Pool cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsThe Undead Pool (The Hollows #12) – Kim Harrison Of course, I had this on pre-order, and I can’t wait to get to it!

Summary: Witch and day-walking demon Rachel Morgan has managed to save the demonic ever after from shrinking, but at a high cost. Now strange magic is attacking Cincinnati and the Hollows, causing spells to backfire or go horribly wrong, and the truce between the races, between Inderlander and human, is shattering.
Rachel must stop the occurrences before the undead vampire masters who keep the rest of the undead under control are lost and it becomes all-out supernatural war. However, the only way to do so is through the ancient elven wild magic, which carries its own perils.

When a girl at her night job disappears, she dives into Scooby mode. She might be able to handle a missing waitress on her own, but when a new Shadow moves in next door and turns her into a blushing, flirting, love-crazed girl, her need for answers unearths nightmares from her past and monsters of the here and now. It’s possible her bad attitude might not be enough to carry her through.

Giveaway Wins:

Tempus cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsTempus by Holly Lauren. I won this book from Goldie over at My Bookmusings. Thank you Goldie!!

Summary: Chapel Ryan isn’t crazy. At least, that’s what she’s been trying to convince herself of for most of her life. But after being hallucination-free for three years, Chapel finds herself facedown on her English classroom’s gritty linoleum floor. When she looks up, everyone around her is suspended in animation. Mouths hang open mid-yawn, feet hover mid-cross, Ms. Freeman’s arm flexes mid-sentence diagram. It’s another hallucination. Or, is it?
Chapel prepares to tear herself back to reality when something happens. Something that has never happened before in any of her hallucinations–someone moves. And not just any someone—it’s the new guy with a scar over his lip and a reputation as black as his perfectly styled hair. And all of the sudden Chapel’s white-knuckle grip on her life has slipped, and with it, her assurance that what she’s experiencing isn’t real.

Blogtour ARCs:

Going Nowhere cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsI am participating in the blogtour organized by IFB Blogtours for Going Nowhere (Twenty-Something) – K.M. Galvin

So not ideal.
Before entering this tragically pathetic phase of her life, Marisol stops at a bar for a drink. It’s here where her life really changes when she meets her catalyst…Jason Scott.
After everything you’ve ever done has backfired and you no longer trust yourself how are you able to navigate a relationship? How do you even begin to love yourself let alone someone else?

Books Bought for Classes:

King Henry IV Part 1 cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsKing Henry IV, Part 1 – William Shakespeare. This is for my last English literature class before I (hopefully) get my Bachelor degree this summer. We are reading four plays, and in May, we are going to London and Stratford-upon-Avon for a week and watch five plays live at the theater. I’m so excited both about my class, and that trip with fellow Shakespeare geeks 😀

Henry IV Part 2 cover - (un)Conventional Bookviews
King Henry IV, Part 2 – William Shakespeare. Part of the same English lit class. If I remember correctly, the first Henri IV is more fun than Part 2, but I hope that actually seeing the play for real will make it come alive more easily, though.

All's Well that Ends Well cover - (un)Conventional Bookviews

All’s Well that Ends Well – William Shakespeare. Yes, this one is also for my class. We are going to read Titus Andronicus as well, but I already own the correct edition of that play, so it’s not a part of my new acquisitions this week.

Language Acquisition cover - (un)Conventional Bookviews

Language Acquisition: The Growth of Grammar – Maria Teresa Guasti is a book I need for one of my linguistic classes. This one class is awesome! I love learning a little more about how chlidren acquire their mother tongue, and what is needed in order for a young child to be able to master their language in such a short period.

Remember to leave me your link so I can check out your Stacking the Shelves post, too 🙂 Thanks for stopping by! Have a spectacular Saturday.

  1. Jessica @ a GREAT read

OOoh nice! Other than Kim’s book, these are all new to me! Going to have to rearrange my book reading order again because Kim’s is going to take priority! Not the kind of reader that stops a book to start another, so looks like I won’t start it until Tuesday or late Monday…still so excited to read it!!

Happy Reading! As always, my STS won’t be up til Sunday. Be sure to stop by if you can!

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

    • I can’t wait to read Kim’s book either, but I kind of want to savor it, you know? I want to sit down, be all relaxed, have something nice to drink and just enjoy 🙂

Thanks for stopping by Jessica 🙂

    • Thanks Grace. Yes, the selection is even broader than usual this week, from classic Shakespeare to shifter erotica, with some linguistics and contemporary romance thrown in for fun 🙂

      Have a spectacular Saturday 🙂

  2. I almost said something the last time you brought up your Shakespeare class, but I didn’t, but since you’ve mentioned it again, I can’t help myself–I took a Shakespeare course my 3rd year (I think, maybe 4th), and I. Loved. It. I also read Henry IV, parts I & II, and I was AMAZED at how good Shakespeare’s histories were (I thought they would be boring). And how LUCKY you are to get to go to London for a week and see five plays as part of your class! I can’t imagine many American students get that opportunity unless it’s as part as a specialized summer course, or something.

And I’ll stop gushing now, lol. Have fun in your class!

    • YAY Jessica 🙂 I’m a huge Shakespeare fan, myself, and I am so much looking forward to this class. Yes, we are very lucky to be going to London and Stratford-upon-Avon to get our geek on, for sure. But some students won’t be able to go, because it IS quite expensive.

I have loved the other plays I’ve read so far (already did a Shakespeare class two years ago – it was called How and Why to Die in Shakespearian Tragedies) and we had a great time in that class, too, even if it didn’t involve any traveling.

Thanks for stopping by, Jessica, you can gush about Shakespeare every day if you want 😀

    • I only started reading Kim Harrison’s books last summer, and I just cruised through them. They are so well done! With minor plot points or clues found in the first couple of books becoming a major thing several books later.

      Thanks for stopping by, Christy.

  3. wow that’s impressive, it’s a lot of books! I need to read Kim Harrison 7, this series is so good. Anathema is intriuing, I”m curious to see what you think of this one. Happy reading!

The Kim Harrison series is awesome 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by, Melliane.

    • I like the look of Going Nowhere, too, Chrissi. My selection this week is even more eclectic than usual 🙂
      Thanks for stopping by.

    • Yeah, those Kim Harrison books are so good, Nikki.
Thanks for stopping by 🙂 Have an awesome weekend yourself.

    • I love the FUC series, too Stephanie, Eve Langlais has a sense of humor I just love, and her hot scenes are awesome as well 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by.

    • The Hollows series is really worth starting, Janina. I read the first 10 books in just a few short weeks 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by.

  4. WoW Lexx! You got a ton of books! What an amazing haul!!! I haven’t read anything by Brenda Novak, but have heard that she is a great author! Going Nowhere looks good! You got a ton of freebies this week. Thanks for sharing, I’m going to go add some of them 🙂 Congrats on winning Tempus! My STS goes up later tonight! Have a great week Lexx 🙂

    • Yeah, another week where I add far more books than I’ll have the time to read 🙁 And at the same time, I can’t help but be happy about that!
I have to read Henry IV part one and 2 for next week, so I know I’ll be busy 🙂
      Thanks for stopping by Lindy.

    • I hadn’t heard of it either, but I have loved the other K.A. Tucker books I’ve read, so it was impossible to resist 🙂

Thanks for stopping by Terri 🙂

    • Yes, free is always good – and one of the reasons I’ll probably never run out of books to read 😀
      Thanks for stopping by, Cait.

  5. I’m the same way, Jennifer. I’m keeping The Undead Pool on hold for a little while. The end is near, and I really don’t want it to be!

    Thanks for stopping by.

  6. OMG! The undead pool!! I am waiting forever for this one because I am sooo stupid to buy the paperbacks 🙁
I hope you enjoy reading all your new books.

      Thanks for stopping by.

    • Me, too! And the Whiskey Creek series is like catching up with dear friends 🙂
      Thanks for stopping by Lily.

    • It is so interesting, Bea! To learn just how early babies can distinguish between two languages, for example.

I love Novak, I hope you’ll enjoy the first Whiskey Creek book 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by.

  7. I can’t wait to hear what you think of all of Langlais’ novels, Lexxie. They all seem like such fun. And, of course, I KNOW you’re going to enjoy Shadow Town. 😉 Oh, and The Undead Pool, too. You did some great equalizing with your fun vs. school reading. 🙂

I’m sorry to have been MIA. I’ve been dealing with a migraine since Saturday night. And I just can’t do much when that happens. I was able to see Jax’s musical performance Saturday afternoon – he was one fabulous singing butcher! 😉 And Berk’s guard placed 1st again. Yay! I hope your weekend was lovely and that your week is going well. Hopefully we can chat in the next few days. **BIG HUGS**
