Sidekick Showcase #15 – Not Who They Say They Are
My pick for this week’s Sidekick Showcase is Neferet from PC and Kristen Cast’s House of Night series. Neferet starts out as the hight priestess and good leader of the school for fledging vampires, she seems to be very motherly and always there for the students. However, it is soon discovered that she is a power-hungry woman, consorting with demons and stealing the powers of several fledging vampires. She always manages to fool the council when she is brought in for questioning, and only the readers and some of the characters realize how evil she truly is. I haven’t read the last HoN book, even if I own it. There are so many other books on my TBR I want to read first, and this is one of the series that started out really great, but that should maybe have been brought to a close by now. I loved the mythology in the beginning, a mixture between old goddesses and native American mythology, and the main character Zoey showed a lot of potential, too.
Here are some quotes about Neferet :
From Awakened
What more could you want? How about dominion over this ‘beautiful place’? Beauty doesn’t last. Friends and family decay. Power is the only thing that goes on forever.”
Jack answered with his gut. “No, love goes on forever.”“Neferet, you’re nuttier than squirrel turds.”
“You asked what you’d done to displease me and I told you: you’re breathing. And in much too close a proximity to me. That displeases me. It’s
time you depart my bed.” Neferet sighed and flicked her fingers at him in dismissal. “Go. Now.”
Who is your choice of a Sidekick today? Thanks for stopping by today, have a spectacular Sunday.
I remember her from the few books in the series I read. I loved the whole school aspect and the way the vamps were out in the open and practically wore a scarlet letter. But this is one of several series I quit. The only YA series that has gone on a while an I still love is Morganville. Great pick, Lexxie! Happy Sunday!!
I haven’t really kept up with HoN either. I think I own the last few books, but I haven’t read them yet.
Morganville is totally awesome, I’m glad you still love it.
Thanks for stopping by Robyn.
Oohhh, great pick, Lexxie! I didn’t even think of Neferet. I remember being shocked when she turned into pure evil! LOL This is a series that I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to get into but ended up loving…at least for awhile. 🙂
Hope you’ve enjoyed your weekend. *hugs*
I really loved it too… for a while 🙂 I’ve had a really good weekend, it was nice to get back home, actually, even if I miss the beach.
Thanks for stopping by Brandee.
Nuttier than squirrel turds LOL. Love it. Neferet is truly an evil, evil woman and only the readers and very few of the characters ever found that out to be true. Excellent choice! I am on the same page with you about the series ending. I haven’t read the last couple of books since there are just too many others that I would rather read as well so I know just how you feel 😀 Have an excellent last week of vacation before school! Jaclyn @ JC’s Book Haven.
Maybe we need a book-club to get through the rest of the series, Jaclyn? But I agree with you, there are just so many books I want to read, it’s just crazy.
Thanks for stopping by 🙂
Nefret gave me the heebie jeebies the first time I met her. Just a bit too smooth with Grandma Redbird. And kind of slimy overall.
It’s true that she was very smooth with Grandma Redbird, but I still thought she was kind of OK, in the beginning 🙂
Thanks for stopping by Xyra 🙂
There was something in the way she greeted Zoey and Grandma that just didn’t sit right with me. Spidey senses tingling…you know the feeling.
I agree!! This series started so well, then went a bit haywire. I bought the last book too, but not in a hurry to read it. I think I will wait a while, read a few together. And besides, I keep picking up other awesome books and can’t help but push it back.
I’m in no hurry to continue either, and it’s really kind of sad. I am like you, I keep picking up more and newer books – it’s almost an obsession 😉
Thanks for stopping by Naomi!
