Review: The Secrets She Kept – Brenda Novak

Review: The Secrets She Kept – Brenda Novak

The Secrets She Kept is a mystery with seemingly endless possibilities when it comes to the who did it. While the characters are the same in The Secrets She Kept and The Secret Sister, the tone and the feel of the story here is quite different. Partly because it unfolds five years after the ending of the first book, and possibly also because it was more from Keith’s point of view, and he had made some huge changes in his life in the past five years. This character growth, as well as the suspense surrounding the matriarch’s death made me both anxious to keep reading, and kept me guessing, and guessing, and guessing. When Keith got news of his mother’s […]

Review: Mr. Corporate – J. A. Huss

Review: Mr. Corporate – J. A. Huss

Mr. Corporate made me doubt what I thought I knew about the Misters, and I enjoyed that he was keeping his card so close to the chest he wasn’t even thinking about what they were. I really enjoyed Weston and what he brought to the story in Mr. Corporate, but Tori truly grated on my nerves. For almost the whole story, she went from hot to cold to scalding, and her reactions didn’t really make much sense to me. Even when I got to know her back story, I didn’t fully understand her or think she was justified in the way she treated Weston. The overall story and plot was awesome, though, and I found Weston to be great – […]

Audioreview: Croc’s Return – Eve Langlais

Audioreview: Croc’s Return – Eve Langlais

Croc’s Return hit the right spot – hot, fast, mysterious and funny – all in one neat little package that was well narrated. If you enjoy shifters, you’ve got to love a croc, right? Croc’s Return is well done, especially because the croc himself isn’t all that sure about what went down before he left Bitten Point a few years ago. All Caleb knows is that he wants to come back home, and if he’ll see Renny, that might just make things better. That is until he learns that Renny has a child. And that she works in a strip-club to make ends meet because her son’s father didn’t step up. Caleb swears he’ll find that man and show him […]

Review: Rock Wedding – Nalini Singh

Review: Rock Wedding – Nalini Singh

Rock Wedding is a toe-curlingly wonderful second-chance-at-love romance, and I loved everything about it! In the prior Rock Kiss books, Sarah and Abe were mentioned together, and it was obvious the end of their marriage happened because of Abe. In Rock Wedding, we finally got their full story, mostly told from Sarah’s perspective, and she totally and utterly broke my heart! She’s such a beautiful soul that has been through a lot of hard times and heartache, and she thought that with Abe, things would be different. And they were – for a while. Until Abe’s own demons became so ever-present he couldn’t keep them all on the inside of his heart anymore, and started spewing them out on Sarah […]

Review: The Year We Turned Forty – Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke

Review: The Year We Turned Forty – Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke

The Year We Turned Forty is a captivating story of friendship, love, choices and living with the consequences of those choices. From the very start, The Year We Turned Forty appealed to me – I’m in my forties, too – because the three main characters, Jessie, Gabriela and Claire were my kind of women. Their close friendship was well done, and I loved that they were all flawed and kept some secrets, even from each other. Apart from the element of them going back in time from their 50th birthday to the day after their 40th birthday, the story is very realistic, and I think the struggles they each had in their lives made a lot of sense. One had […]

Review: Hawke – Sawyer Bennett

Review: Hawke – Sawyer Bennett

Everybody knows I love Cold Fury Hockey, and Hawke, he definitely made me melt, but then, so did Vale! Hawke’s story is very complicated, because he and Vale were together for four years when they were younger, up until the day he left Sydney for Pittsburg to play professional hockey. Then, she told him she didn’t love him, and she never looked back. Fast forward several years, and they meet again, when Hawke starts playing for Cold Fury Hockey, and Vale is the new PT / physiotherapist for the club. All of his feelings of betrayal and hurt come back to the surface, while at the same time he just can’t help but feel utterly attracted to her. The story […]

Review: A Fighting Chance – Shannon Stacey

Review: A Fighting Chance – Shannon Stacey

A Fighting Chance is a very sweet, and hot, second-chance-at love romance, and I really enjoy the characters as well as their journey. I found the ending to be a little cheesy, though, and would have liked to spend a little bit more time with Del and Brendan. I loved how self-assured and sassy Del was from the beginning of Fighting Chance! She’s at a casino hotel, where she’s arrived before her girlfriends for a weekend of fun before her friend gets married. As she explores the hotel, she sees that there are MMA fights during the weekend, and she comes face to face with a huge poster of her ex-boyfriend, Brendan, and even in a photo, he affects her […]

Review: Now and Ten – Mira Lyn Kelly

Review: Now and Ten – Mira Lyn Kelly

Now and Then is a great second chance at love romances, and I had been looking forward to Ford’s story since I read the first installment in this series. Brynn and Ford had such amazing chemistry, and I loved getting to know them better. Ford and Brynn were dating in college, and Ford was sure they would get married and have children, even when their relationship was new. And they were great together, until they weren’t. Together anymore, that is. Brynn broke up with Ford by e-mail and just didn’t come back to college. When he called her, she told him she had found someone else. Fast forward a few years, and Ford the computer geek has several popular app […]

Review: Before We Were Strangers – Renée Carlino

Review: Before We Were Strangers – Renée Carlino

Second chance at love *sighs* my favorite trope when it comes to romance, and in Before We Were Strangers, that trope was brought to absolute perfection! I loved that most of the chapters in Before We Were Strangers are from Matt’s perspective, and that I got a good look into the past and what he had with Grace his last year of college, and of his present, where not many things were going the way he wanted them to. After catching a glimpse of Grace at a metro station, seeing her recognize him, and desperately wanting to catch up with her, he finally found a drive to look forward. Scouring metro stations close to the one where he’d seen her, […]

Review: Once and Again – Elisabeth Barrett

Review: Once and Again – Elisabeth Barrett

Second-chance romances are the absolute best! And Once and Again was both nostalgic, sweet, hot and well done! Once and Again is filled with nostalgia, but there is also an underlying tension that isn’t all positive, especially in the beginning. Carolyn had a pretty easy childhood, her parents were well off, and if she visited the golf club, it was as a guest. One summer, she fell for one of the caddie’s and they had a short, but hot relationship – until her father caught them and sent the young man away in handcuffs. Years later, Carolyn is down on her luck, her father has lost all their money, and she’s working as an event organizor at the golf club […]
