This summer, I’d planned to celebrate my eighteenth birthday in Europe with my fellow Manhattanites—Taddy Brill, Blake Morgan, and Vive Farnworth—until I caught my boyfriend screwing my mother. According to the police report, this vomit-inducing incident happened around the same time I’d supposedly blown-up my mother’s penthouse. Like I’m walking around Soho with a stick of dynamite in my Louis Vuitton purse—not! Now, my besties and I are in jail.
Officer Ford Gotti, the Harley-wheelin’ biker cop who arrested us, keeps sticking his perfectly-sculpted nose into my case. His inked body is jacked like a superhero, and he says I can trust him. He wants me to fess up. I won’t. Not again. Why should I? My friends and I had a previous stint in juvie that nearly destroyed us. I gotta protect them and keep my mouth shut. Right? —Lex Easton, women’s studies major, motorcycle enthusiast, and virgin.
*I received a free ARC of Love, Lex from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review*
Short, hot, pretty unbelievable but lots of fun, Love, Lex is a prequel to the Manhattanites series by Avery Aster. It tells the story of Lex, her crazy mom, her distant and absent father, her best friends and her awful boyfriend. For Lex, hiding from the paparazzi is second nature, and it has been since she was a little girl. However, they always seem to be able to find her at the worst possible moments.
Love, Lex goes from fun, to despair, to prison and back to fun and hotness in a very fast-paced and fun read. You do need to be able to suspend disbelief in a big way, though, but if you are the ride will be good, and you will have no regrets in the end. The situations Lex finds herself in are both hilarious and heartbreaking at the same time. And the fact that she is in the public eye, but mostly because of her parents really make her very insecure, and she is very endearing.
The writing in Love, Lex is OK, there are some editing issues, but they may very well have been changed in the final version as I read an ARC. The point of view is Lex’ in first person, and in past tense, and there are also conversations between her and other characters throughout.
Even in the short story that is Love, Lex, I got to know Lex pretty well, and I want to get to know her better, so I’ll be picking up the Manhattanites very soon. If you enjoy outrageously funny, improbable but still hot and good stories, you should pick up Love, Lex as well. The interactions between Lex and her friends, as well as her erotic daydreams about the hot, tattooed motorcycle cop are hilarious, and definitely worth reading about.
I felt nothing. No pain. Not the loss of him. Not the stab in my soul from Mom. Why? i guess because after all of this was said and done, I still had me! Tomorrow I’d be eighteen. Life was so much better than this.
Why did I feel as if I’d just been placed in some industrial-strength-professional microwave, set on high, ready to defrost and then backe a turkey, all in a mere sixty seconds? If I was ever going to pass out, I hoped it’d be right now. Otherwise I’ll just drop dead of mortification.
Hey Lex, I skimmed your review since I have this for review as well. I’m glad you liked it. I’m looking forward to starting it. I’ve read one of the Manhattanites and loved it. But it was Taddy’s story.
Hope you have a lovely Wednesday and that your week is going well. How many more days?!? 🙂 I’m looking forward to getting to spend more time with you – even if it is virtual! 🙂 **big hugs**
That “…hotness in a very fast-paced and fun read. completely got my attention! Thanks for the review, Lexxie, I’ll check it out 😉
P.S. Hope you’re doing great with your studies!!
I’m in the mood for an off-the-wall read, plus I like that it’s hot & short. And, I totally need to meet this tattooed motorcycle cop you speak of now. LOL Off to NetGalley I go…
I was eyeing this one but not sure, but it seems easy to connect with Lex and want to know more about
The synopsis has me really intrigued because i feel like Lex would be an awesome character who i’d really enjoy being inside (her head, that is…sorry it’s like really late right now i’m exhausted and i can’t formulate proper sentences) but basically what i’m TRYING to say is that i’m interested in Lex’s characterization so i want to give this one a try!
I’ve seen this series around a few blogs and it looks like one of those fun summer reads. I think I’ll give this one a chance and see how I like it. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Oh, wow! This sounds like a fun read, and the blurb definitely gets your attention! 🙂
