At a benefit dinner, community activist Maria Cervantes overhears two men plotting a terrorist attack that could rock Miami to its core. But before she can alert authorities, she’s almost killed in a massive explosion—and wakes up in a hospital with no memory of what happened. As the sole survivor of the attack, she is now a person of interest to the NSA—and especially to Agent Cade O’Reilly. Because Maria is the one woman Cade has never been able to forget.

Years ago, they were closer than either was willing to admit—until Cade disappeared when Maria needed him most. Now he’s sticking by her, whether she likes it or not. Because the memories locked inside her mind could hold vital clues to the next attack. Because terrorists want her dead—and because he never wants to let her go again.

Bound to Danger is filled with suspense, a terrorist attack and romantic tension that almost ignited my kindle!

My Bound to Danger review:

Bound to Danger starts out really strong, and it mystified me, too. Maria was on her way to a benefit party, but she wasn’t feeling very well. Her driver and friend was trying to get her to stay home, but she really needed to go so she could try to raise more funds for her community center for troubled teens. Once there, she was taken to a back-room to rest while the hostess went to find her mother. Through one of the walls, she could hear angry voices, and she recognized one of them. Once she realized they had planted a bomb there, she was able to sneak out a side-door to the garden, and was running towards her car to call for help when a blast threw her to the ground. So yes, the story kind of started with a bang.

Maria needed to remember what had happened just prior to the blast, but it was impossible for her to recall why she had gone outside. And when Cade showed up in her room, she was both elated to see him and angry because he had stayed away from her ever since her brother was killed in Afghanistan. Now, they needed to work together, Cade had to protect her, and she needed to remember things in order to stop further attacks in the city. Bound to Danger was filled with fast-paced action from start to finish, and I could not put my kindle down.

The obvious attraction between Cade and Maria made Bound to Danger even better – I love stories that are able to balance suspense and romance, and Katie Reus does this perfectly. Written in third person past tense, I was able to get a very good overview of both the story and its plot, as well as the characters. And as Maria regained her memory little by little, danger followed her and Cade around, making it hard for them to reconnect and try to figure out what the terrorists next target might be and why.

If you enjoy romantic suspense stories, the Deadly Ops series should make it to your shelves, as it has plenty of both. I enjoyed Targeted quite a bit, and Bound to Danger took both the romance and the suspense further. Now, I’m looking forward to Chasing Danger which will be released in April next year.

Some of my favorite Bound to Danger quotes:

When she saw her father standing by the middle altar hugging her aunt, she thought she would lose it. Seeing her father cry was too much. the icing on hte shittiest cake in the world.

Maria blinked in surprise. She hadn’t known Cade was taking time off. She’d been too nervous to broach the subject of them or the future […]

  1. *unglues eyes from cover* Yeah, that was a lovely cover. I don’t mind picking this one up just for the cover 😉 haha but from your review it looks like the inside of this book is just as good and I love how it starts of strong and continues like that throughout he read! Lovely review 🙂

    • LOL Lily, most of Katie Reus contemporary romantic suspense stories have very hot covers… they are like their own artwork 😀 But truly, the stories really appeal to me as well – the perfect mix of romance and suspense, and I’m always eagerly clicking ‘next page’ on my kindle.
      Thanks for stopping by.

    • Hmmm… I guess you just need to spend less time with your family, Brandee, that’s OK, right? 😛
I really like romantic suspense, too, when it’s well done, it just covers all the bases for me 🙂
