Feature and Follow #77 – Tell us about a book that you didn’t like and why we shouldn’t read it…nicely.

YAY it’s Friday! Gain new followers and make new friends with the Book Blogger Feature and Follow! If this is your first time here, welcome! You are about to make some new friends and gain new followers — but you have to know — the point of this hop is to follow other bloggers also. I follow you, you follow me.The Feature and Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Rachel of Parajunkee’s View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it’ll allow us to meet more new bloggers!

What sets this Hop apart from others, is that our hosts feature two blogs. Every week they will each showcase a Featured Blogger, from all different genres and areas. Just remember it is required, if you participate, to follow both their featured as well as our lovely hosts as a courtesy. How do you follow someone? Well, if you have a preference, state it in your Feature and follow post. I prefer being followed via e-mail, RSS / Bloglovin’ or Google+; but you can also like my Facebook page, or even follow me on Twitter.

Yeah, so this question is actually pretty hard to answer, I think. There have been several books I haven’t enjoyed very much, and that I wouldn’t necessarily recommend, but those same books have been enjoyed a lot by other bloggers and readers, so I think it’s not really very nice to tell anyone to not read a book, see what I mean? I’ll give an example, because I recently read Broken Hearts, Fences and Other Things to Mend, and I really didn’t enjoy myself, I only gave it two stars, which is a pretty rare occurrence for me. However, on the same day that I wrote my review, I got the e-mail with Alison from Alison Can Read’s review, and she really enjoyed it. So in my review, I explained that I never connected with the characters, that the plot was flimsy at best, and that the main character wasn’t the smartest one I’ve ever read about. But towards the end, I linked to Alison’s review, because then, those who thought they might enjoy the book based on my negative review could also find a positive one very easily.

Thanks for stopping by today, have a fantastic Friday and a wonderful weekend.

    • I tend to just stop reading if I’m in the middle of a book that really pisses me off, and then, I don’t bother even reviewing it. I already spent too much time on it.

      Thanks for stopping by, Braine.

    • Thanks for stopping by, Sofia 🙂 It is never fun to not enjoy a book if many other people did. But it happens.

    • I think sometimes, the best book discussions happen when the person I’m discussing it with has a different view on the book than I do 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by, Angie.

  1. It’s hard to be nice sometimes about a book that you really don’t like but not everyone will like the same things. That makes it all the more interesting if you ask me.

    I’m a new bloglovin follower.

    • I agree, things become a lot more interesting because we don’t like the same things 🙂

thanks for the comment and the follow, Sharon.

  2. Jessica @ a GREAT read

That’s pretty much what I said in my post. I picked a recent review book I read that I absolutely hated. It was such a huge disappointment. But, I spoke those words as a paranormal reader and my read kind of turned out to be a contemporary with extremely light paranormal threads. So I said, if you like contemps, then it would be more your kind of read. But it’s not really for the paranormal reader.

Of course that review won’t be up until closer to July, but still. That’s what I chose since it was a recent read.

    Here’s my Follow Friday

    Have a GREAT day!

    • LOL Jessica, I was lucky, I guess, to find one that had just been posted. Because mostly, I truly enjoy the books I read.

      thanks for stopping by.

  3. I LOVE how you handled this topic! It so very true that what one person does not like another may love. Why tread on the feelings of those who enjoy something.

You should great respect and diplomacy by linking your not so nice review to a glowing one so that readers can see both sides of the situation and make their decision from there.

    Thank you!

    • Thank you Xyra 🙂 I guess if a book really, really makes me angry, I might not care all that much about someone else’s feelings, though 😉

      Thanks for stopping by.

    • Yes, it’s true, even reading the same book twice might be two completely different experiences for the same person. And I thought it was meant to be to link to Alison’s review, since I received it the same day I scheduled mine 🙂

Thanks for stopping by, my dear *BIG HUGS*

    • Thanks, Robyn 🙂 Yeah, it was happenstance that I saw a positive review for it in my inbox that day… I have two more papers to write, they are both due on Wednesday. And then, I’ll be on spring-break 🙂

Have a wonderful weekend, too, Robyn. Thanks for stopping by.

  4. I think that’s cool you linked to a positive review. One or two star ratings are rare for me, too. It might seem to some people that I just love everything, lol, but I do like or love or become obsessed with 95% of the books I read. The premise of Broken Hearts doesn’t intrigue me, so I doubt I’ll be giving that one a go.

One book I recently rated two stars (like a month ago I think) was for a blog tour, so I ended up doing a spotlight instead. The book is called The Death of Ink. I wanted to love the book so badly, but the plot was so confusing, and I just couldn’t make myself care about the characters. Luckily, this rarely happens!

    Old follower 😉
