ARC Review: The Summer We Lost Her – Tish Cohen

ARC Review: The Summer We Lost Her – Tish Cohen

The Summer We Lost Her is a slow-paced mystery where a young girl disappears without trace from the front of a summer house. Especially the beginning of The Summer We Lost Her is very slow. I was wondering when something would happen, while also getting to know Matt and Elise and Gracie. Between the fact that Elise was a top athlete, and Matt the main caretaker for Gracie, it was clear that the usual gender roles were not part of this family’s dynamics. The Summer We Lost Her switches between the present and various flashbacks. The narrator is 3rd person omniscient, with the closest perspective being Elise’s. I enjoyed learning about Elise and Matt, how they had come to terms […]

ARC Review: Sidelined – Suzanne Baltzar

ARC Review: Sidelined – Suzanne Baltzar

Sidelined is about an unconventional woman, who finally gets the job she wants. Only to be met by scepticism from the men already in place. It was great reading about a female high school football coach. All the challenges Charlie faced in Sidelined are challenges women often face, too. Charlie was happy to finally be head coach, but the reception she got form her team was even colder than she had imagined. Connor wanted the job, and truly felt he deserved the job. He tried to tell himself that he didn’t hate Charlie because she was a woman, but because she had ‘stolen’ his dream job. As Sidelined continued, it was clear that Charlie was more than capable. She turned […]

ARC Review: Sapphire Flames – Ilona Andrews

ARC Review: Sapphire Flames – Ilona Andrews

Sapphire Flames brings all the magic, the fights, the intrigue, the romance, and the tension I have gotten used to with the Hidden Legacy series! While I would have loved more Nevada and Rogan, I have to say Sapphire Flames still blew me away. Catalina is definitely a worthy heroine, and I loved how she wanted to take care of things herself. Just so that Nevada and Rogan could have a little alone time. The way the Houses tried to move in on her, and take her out made for a lot of action. In Sapphire Flames, I loved how Alessandro tried to find more with Catalina. She resisted all his advances, though, because she knew that people found themselves […]

Review: Twice in a Blue Moon – Christina Lauren

Review: Twice in a Blue Moon – Christina Lauren

Twice in a Blue Moon was fantastic – one of the best second chance romances I have read, and it was so filled with chemistry and tenderness I felt full while reading. What happens when you’re the hidden (not secret) child of Hollywood’s most coveted actor and you go on vacation to London and meet a cute boy? Well, lots of things happen, actually, and Tate broke the one rule her mom and grandma had instilled in her since they moved away from her father. And that had devastating consequences for all of them – but mostly for Tate. Twice in a Blue Moon is a beautifully written, character-driven story, and I enjoyed how Christina Lauren first let us got […]

#ARC #Review: The Takeover Effect – Nisha Sharma

#ARC #Review: The Takeover Effect – Nisha Sharma

The Takeover Effect was an excellent story on absolutely every level! A boardroom thriller / romance, it kept me riveted from start to finish. Add in a very strong and intelligent female lawyer, and a strong-minded, honest oldest son in charge of his own company coming back to save the family, and you have a recipe for greatness! Story: The Takeover Effect included some very strong, charismatic and career-oriented characters who made me swoon! I loved the excitement of the underlying threat of a hostile takeover, and I also loved how the Singh family came together to save their father’s company, pride and hard work. The characters were all well fleshed out, and they had very distinct personalities – this […]

Review: Playing for Keeps – Jill Shalvis

Review: Playing for Keeps – Jill Shalvis

Playing for Keeps just might be my favorite Heartbreaker Bay story! I loved Sadie and Caleb so much. And Lollipop was the best rescue puppy ever! Playing for Keeps just worked so very well for me! Sadie and Caleb both wanted nothing to do with a relationship. And they kind of worked the best using sarcasm towards each other. Until that evening when Caleb found an abandoned, three legged dog in the courtyard. And they somehow ended up co-adopting her. Caleb had been a bit of a mystery up until now, as he was a little on the outskirt of the friend group. In Playing for Keeps, however, he showed just what kind of a man he was. He’s a […]

Review: Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating – Christina Lauren

Review: Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating – Christina Lauren

Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating is my favorite friends to lovers story ever! They are both golden, and I adore them! Story: Josh and Hazel had nothing much in common at first glance, on second glance, however, they were perfect for each other. After they knew each other in college, they lost sight of each other for ten years. Until Hazel’s best friend had a welcome summer BBQ. And Josh was there – because he was Emily’s sister. Little by little, Josh and Hazel became friends, and their friendship was strong. They are both very loyal, and only wanted the best for the other. Because Josh left his girlfriend after they had known each other again only for […]

Review: Rainy Day Friends – Jill Shalvis

Review: Rainy Day Friends – Jill Shalvis

Rainy Day Friends was a very emotional read. I cried so hard! But I also laughed and swooned very hard! Story: Lanie had really been through hell and back before Rainy Day Friends even started. She felt like nothing in her life was right anymore, which is one of the reasons why she took a temporary job at a winery away from her LA home. As soon as she arrives, she’s taken in by a huge, noisy family who run the winery together. And she feels utterly out of place. Even if everyone there tries to help her feel welcome. Lanie doesn’t want her employers to know just what it is she’s running away from, and Rainy Day Friends definitely […]

Review: The Good Luck Sister – Jill Shalvis

Review: The Good Luck Sister – Jill Shalvis

The Good Luck Sister is yet another feel-good romance from Shalvis! I really enjoyed getting to know Tilly and Dylan better! Story: The Good Luck Sister is short, but sweet. It’s set several years after Lost and Found Sisters, and it shows Tilly all grown up. But still confused about life. And still sharing her wisdom at the beginning of the chapters. I loved that while Tilly was now an adult, there were traits of her character she still had from her teens. She is not one to forgive easily, and if she feels like she’s been faulted, she’s stoic. The Good Luck Sister showed that she is capable of letting the past go, though. But not without the other […]

Review: Love and Other Words – Christina Lauren

Review: Love and Other Words – Christina Lauren

Love and Other Words is one of the most poignantly beautiful stories I have ever read! My heart is still reeling, and I want to both laugh and cry at the same time. Story: Love and Other Words switches between Macy’s childhood and the present, slowly unraveling all her secret thoughts, fears, loves, hopes, and heartaches. Christina Lauren’s stories just get better and stronger with each book, and I can hardly even write because my feelings are all over the place. The character development in Love and Other Words is nothing short of amazing. And the friendship between Elliot and Macy when they were children and teens is beautiful. There were just so many little details about them both that […]
