Review: Three Breaths – Belle Brooks

Review: Three Breaths – Belle Brooks

Oh my goodness! I don’t even know where to start with my praise for Three Breaths! The suspense is killing me! And I want to know who the Wolf is! Story: This series of mystery and suspense is just so well done! Morgan is still fighting for her life, but barely. Her Husband Reid is almost worse off than she is – with the uncertainty, the fear, and trying to stay strong for their two children. And the way the Wolf is still chasing Morgan, playing with her, toying with her emotions… It is both maddening, scary and incredibly suspenseful. Characters: Morgan is the kidnapped woman. Reid, her husband at home. Wolf, the kidnapper… and he has help. Linda, Morgan’s […]

Review: Hello Again – Brenda Novak

Review: Hello Again – Brenda Novak

Hello Again was so eery, I felt the suspense during the whole story, and it just seems impossible to me that Evelyn will make it through the end. There is more than one enemy now, and my goodness, the ending left me speechless and breathless. Story: The suspense and the psychological thriller aspects were even stronger in Hello Again. Evelyn has more than one person she needs to be wary of, and her newest inmate is so smart and vengeful. He’s at least as scary as Justin. Several things happen to bring more heat to Justin’s revenge, and on top of that, there are murders that seem different from his MO, but could still be by him. Amarok and Evelyn’s […]

Review: Two Footsteps – Belle Brooks

Review: Two Footsteps – Belle Brooks

Two Footsteps was an excellent psychological thriller / suspense / mystery novella! I was completely captivated (pun intended) from start to finish. Story: A little dark, a lot tense, Two Footsteps definitely kept me at the edge of my seat. Who is the wolf? Why has he kidnapped Morgan? There are many clues around her when she wakes up, but none of them make sense to her. There is quite a bit of confusion, and suddenly, she wakes up outside. She’s hunted. And she has no idea how she’ll be able to get out of the wilderness alive. Characters: Morgan is married to Reid, they have two children. As she wakes up in unfamiliar surroundings, she knows her life is […]

Review: The Other Girl – Erica Spindler

Review: The Other Girl – Erica Spindler

The Other Girl was an excellent psychological thriller, with a fast pace and a lot of action. Story: The Other Girl was a scary trip back into the past, but also in the present. Miranda was somehow involved, but not by choice. At the crime scene of a murder, her finger prints were found on a bottle… and there was information about a long ago case, where she had escaped, but had to leave the other girl behind. The suspense was really well done, and with each new revelation, I found it more difficult to trust anyone at all – even Miranda. Characters: Miranda is a detective, and has worked very hard to not be ‘the girl who lied’. In […]

Review: Don’t You Cry – Mary Kubica

Review: Don’t You Cry – Mary Kubica

Don’t You Cry is a deliciously creepy, mysterious tale, where the plot only fully unfolds at the very end of the story. At first, I had a little bit of trouble getting into the story of Don’t You Cry (and for the whole time, I had Axl Rose singing in my mind…) because it was quite slow, and one of the narrators was a little… hmm how should I say it?… dense. She was not only a bit socially awkward, she was very immature and unsure of herself. She did grow on me, though, and as the story moved forward, I came to like her and her strange ways. Don’t You Cry had two narrators, and neither of them was […]

Review: Sisters and Lies – Bernice Barrington

Review: Sisters and Lies – Bernice Barrington

Sisters and Lies is both tender and harsh, mysterious and sweet, nostalgic and filled with hope. A good story that kept me turning the pages, never fully guessing what was going on. Sisters and Lies was well done, especially the psychological thriller aspect of the story. Evie and Rachel both had chapters told from their perspective, which made everything more chilling, as Evie was in a coma for most of it! Rachel had a lot going on at once, and dealing with the aftermath of her sister’s accident definitely didn’t make any of it any easier. The choices she needed to make were still there, but everything got an urgent feel to them, and she was unable to fully trust […]

Review: Her Darkest Nightmare – Brenda Novak

Review: Her Darkest Nightmare – Brenda Novak

Her Darkest Nightmare has a lot of tension, the psychological aspect of this thriller is very well done. There were, however, several instances where I had to consciously suspend disbelief in order to follow Evelyn. Her Darkest Nightmare happens about six months after the ending of Hanover House, and the prison / psych ward has opened and is almost at capacity. With one of the doctors out sick, and another one having left because of the long winter in Alaska, Evelyn has a smaller team to deal with, which means there’s more work for all of them. Because Evelyn has brought in a new inmate – without discussing it with her colleagues first – the sense of mistrust was very […]

Review: If You Wrong Us – Dawn Klehr

Review: If You Wrong Us – Dawn Klehr

If You Wrong Us is a chilling psychological thriller, where the characters feel entitled to revenge, not thinking about how revenge could lead to much more hurt for everyone involved. My If You Wrong Us review: If You Wrong Us started out innocently enough, with Becca and Johnny trying to heal together after a car accident took the lives of Becca’s twin sister and Johnny’s mom. Both of them had trouble believing it was an accident, though, and they put a plan in action to make the guilty party pay as much as they felt they had paid, too. Becca was a very smart girl straight A student, and she tutored Johnny to help him with chemistry to help him […]

Review: Need – Joelle Charbonneau

Review: Need – Joelle Charbonneau

Need is a chilling tale about how far the anonymity of the internet could go if we let it. Putting others behind wants for new and shiny things is not new, but the way this was facilitated in Need made the story quite horrifying. My Need review: Need takes social media stalking and bullying to a whole new level, and it’s very hard to see who can be trusted, and who the main character should stay very far away from! With a layered plot, a solid story and characters that are realistic and flawed, Need appealed to me in many ways! Everybody who has a social media account knows how important it is to be polite and show respect online… […]

Review: A Madness So Discreet – Mindy McGinnis

Review: A Madness So Discreet – Mindy McGinnis

A Madness So Discreet is utterly chilling! Grace is in an asylum for the insane, but she really doesn’t belong there. The abuse she suffered before getting there, and how that abuse continued by the hand of the people supposed to take care of her made me cringe! Little by little, things changed as she was moved to another asylum, and she could use her sharp mind to help catch a killer on the lose. My A Madness So Discreet review: A mix between a historical mystery and thriller, as well as a very deep look at society and how easy it was to get rid of a woman in those times, A Madness So Discreet chilled me to the […]
