Audio Review ~ Marry in Haste ~ Anne Gracie

Audio Review ~ Marry in Haste ~ Anne Gracie

Marry in Haste was a little slow to start for me but as it was all necessary for world building and the pace eventually picked up, it was all worth the wait. What I most loved about Marry in Haste was the characters. Cal – the new Lord Ashendon – made himself out to be a man caring only of his service to his country. While that is noble, he was tender-hearted as well, showing his half-sisters and niece kindness and love even if those things were foreign to him. Em – who’d served as his half-sisters’ teacher – had endured so much at the hands of one who should’ve shown her unconditional love. I admired her strength and resilience. […]

Audio Review ~ Royal ~ Winter Renshaw

Audio Review ~ Royal ~ Winter Renshaw

Royal marks the first time I’ve tried Renshaw and while the story wasn’t perfect, I enjoyed the introduction. Royal introduces us to the Rosewood family and the small town of Rixton Falls. When we first meet Demi, the eldest of the Rosewood girls, she’s head-over-heels for her older brother’s best friend, Royal, and they’re making plans to spend their lives together. Flash forward 7 years later, Demi is reeling from her former fiance’s accident which has left him in a coma – reeling because he and she are the only ones who know he called things off. She, therefore, is having to play the part of dutiful fiancee. On top of all that, Royal appears at her front door wanting […]

Audio Review ~ From Mom to Me Again ~ Melissa Shultz

Audio Review ~ From Mom to Me Again ~ Melissa Shultz

While not everything applied to me, From Mom to Me Again offered some good advice for the transition from mom to empty-nest parent. Shultz provided tips on starting the transition during my kids’ senior year – so I’m happy I decided to listen to this when I did. She also offered advice on self-care as well as on transitioning your marriage from focusing on parenting back to focusing on being a couple. Take Away Items It’s okay to take time for ME – which is difficult when your focus has been your kids for so long Try doing new things, learning new skills. This not only aids in changing your focus, it also might uncover a new passion. It’s normal […]

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Cocky Bastard ~ Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Cocky Bastard ~ Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland

Lexxie and I buddy read Cocky Bastard – although she read while I listened. We both enjoyed this second chance at romance story that was fun as well as deep. What did you think about their first meeting? And the subsequent road trip? The first meeting had me laugh out loud for real! And man, Chance really was a cocky bastard *laughs*. The road trip was awesome – I felt like I was travelling with them. I loved that they listened to music, stopped for food, and just chatted about so many different subjects. Even if Chance was very careful about not sharing one aspect of his own life. The Obama bobble-head! *grins* Yes, that was funny. I enjoyed their […]

Audioreview: Hounded – Kevin Hearne

Audioreview: Hounded – Kevin Hearne

Hounded was a fantastic story, with really well done mythology, character development, action, and plot! Story: I did a buddy listen of Hounded with Carole @ Carole’s Random Life. We both agreed that Oberon was our favorite character. The overall story really appealed to me, because it had a druid main character, Atticus. And, as I said to Carole at one point, it was refreshing to have a male protagonist in adult Urban Fantasy. I know there are others, but it’s been a while since I’ve read or listened to one. Hounded starts off with showing the readers what this universe is like, there are gods – from all pantheons – fae, vampires, shifters, witches, and of course out druid. […]

Series Review: The Illuminae Files – Amie Kaufmann and Jay Kristoff

Series Review: The Illuminae Files – Amie Kaufmann and Jay Kristoff

Beware readers! I am reviewing all three books in one go. There may be spoilers from books 1 and 2 in the review of book 3.  When Illuminae was first released, it was one of those immense buzz-books from the get-go. Remember? I was excited about it, too, and I bought the book as soon as was possible. Then, I left it on my shelf. Until I went to BEA in 2016, where I got an advanced copy of Gemina… which I also put on my shelf once I returned home. See a pattern here? The books appealed to me, but I just kind of didn’t get to them. Until one of my favorite authors told me that her co-author […]

Audioreview: Wasted Lust – JA Huss

Audioreview: Wasted Lust – JA Huss

Wasted Lust was one of my favorite Company / Rook & Ronin stories, both because I had been so curious about Sasha, and because anything that happens in this universe is bound to be amazing… Listening to a favorite book enhances the experience in many ways, and Wasted Lust is proof of that! The narrators did an amazing job, and they managed to bring my distaste for Jax forward in the beginning of the story. There is one male and one female narrator, so that Sasha’s chapters are narrated by the woman and Jax’ chapters by the man. This worked very well, and I was so completely immersed in the story I sometimes didn’t want to leave my car and […]

Audioreview: The Pact – Karina Halle

Audioreview: The Pact – Karina Halle

The Pact is the first in Halle’s McGregor series – which works completely as stand-alone novels! – but my second. And oh my, how I loved Linden and Stephanie! I buddy-listened to The Pact with my dear blogger-wife Brandee @ Bookworm Brandee. So I’m sharing some stuff we chatted about after we were both finished. There might be some slight spoilers, so beware! Me: Both Kayla and James really, really piss me off!!! I’m almost at the end of The Pact… Brandee: Me too! I almost couldn’t stand James.

How can Steph be happy for James?? I would kick him in the nuts if I were her! I completely agree. He was a total schmuck. So self-centered. I’d kick him […]

Audioreview: It Ends With Us – Colleen Hoover

Audioreview: It Ends With Us – Colleen Hoover

It Ends With Us is even more emotional in audio than when I read it myself. Awesome story that needed to be told! I’m not sure how Olivia Song managed to do this, but she made me fall even deeper in love with Lily with her excellent narration of It Ends With Us. This past weekend, my oldest daughter and I drove to the South of France for a book fest, and she hadn’t read this one yet. And CoHo was one of the authors at the fest, so we decided to listen to it on the road. Everything was OK on the way there, but I missed my cue on the way back on Sunday, and it took us […]

Audio Review: FORD Taut / Slack – J.A. Huss

Audio Review: FORD Taut / Slack – J.A. Huss

Rutherford Aston is an ass, a creep, a freak… And he knows it! It’s just that he might not be as bad as he thinks when it comes down to it. I had forgotten what an ass Ford could be! Fucking Ford. He’s still my favorite guy in this series, though, and the narration made it even more so. The emotions were stronger, and hearing Duran’s voice being Ford was awesome! The pacing was well done, and I have to say I loved getting to know more about Ford, and meeting Sasha, Ashleigh and Kate was something I appreciated just as much the second time around. Seeing the lengths he would go to for his friends, while still thinking he […]
