Weekend Wrap-up #300 – Happy 2020!

Posted 4 January, 2020 by Linda @ (un)Conventional Bookworms in Reviews / 25 Comments

Weekend Wrap-up is where I share my new books, as well as what happened here at (un)Conventional Bookworms and elsewhere in the blogoshpere. I’m linking up with the usual suspects, AKA Team Tynga’s Reviews and Caffeinated Reviewer.

STS #300

Stacking The Shelves, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality is all about the latest additions to my library – virtual or actual, with books that are  bought, borrowed, won or ARCs  I will (probably) be reading soon. Before the new year started, there was an implosion regarding RWA – I won’t write about it here – apart from saying #IStandWithCourtneyMilan. However, that had me buying a LOT of books by marginalized authors (over 60!) and I won’t list them all here – but authors I bought include Courtney Milan, Beverly Jenkins, Suleikha Snyder, Tracey Livesay, Melissa Blue, Farrah Rochon, Xan West, Robin Covington, Erica Ridley, Pintip Dunn, Seressia Glass, and Alyssa Cole. I got a couple of ARCs that I wanted to share, and that’s it for new books.

You may already know – Brandee and I are doing an Unearthing a Bookish Bounty, where we’ll read books we already own. So I (probably) won’t be adding many new books to my shelves this year. Feel free to join us!

The Sunday Post #240 – Weekend Wrap-up

Kim @ The Caffeinated Reviewer, is our hostess with the mostest for the weekly Sunday Post where I’m wrapping things up. It is the perfect opportunity to share what happened here on my own blog, as well as some of the happenings elsewhere in the Blogosphere.

This holiday has been mostly relaxing for me. I’ve hung out with family and friends, I have read some books, and I have taken naps. It was very much needed after all the hustle of the past semester. Of course, I did have some papers to grade, but I managed to only do a few per day – after a full week off – so it didn’t feel like too much to do. Work starts again on Monday, and I hope I’ll be able to manage my time, and stay on top of everything again until the end of the semester in June!

This Week’s Puppies in Action:

Hercules and Freddy with oldest and third.

Did you get some good books last week? What have you been up to this past week? Thanks for stopping by, I hope you’re enjoying your weekend, and that next week will be filled with awesome!

I feel like my release list for this year is rather smaller than past years. I’m trying to focus on my own TBR pile this year as well, but I know there are books coming out this year that I have to have! Such as continuing series releasing the next edition! I can’t say no to those! Lol. I positively love that pictures of Hercules and Freddy with two of your kids!

Hope you enjoy all the lovely new reads!

My StS will be up tomorrow, so stop by then if you can!

    Have a GREAT day!

    • There are some failsafes in our Bookish Bounty challenge, Jessica. For example, we can buy some new books – but only with a giftcard. And we both have a list of authors whose ARCs we are allowed to get. And we’ve decided that our current pre-orders won’t have to be cancelled 😉
      Have a great weekend!

  2. I hope to read more books I already own this year as well. Lots if buddy reads with Stormi are planned. I can’t believe it’s 2020 already. The pups look great and what a beautiful picture. I’m trying to get back into a blogging schedule since we added a new 4-legged child to our home over the holidays. Puppies are exhausting is my new motto!

I share a similar goal for the new year to read what I already own! In the past, I got too caught up in the hype of new releases and ARCs. But I have PLENTY to read this year without buying anything else. I am planning to read a few ARCs and I’ll need to buy my book club’s selection. But I am determined to read what I have. Best wishes to you!

For my second book if the year I picked a book that had been in my tbr for about 3 years. I try to do that a few times a month- depending on arcs, favorite series or authors releases. Sometimes it’s really old. Sometimes just months.I know there are books from 2012 on my Kindle, but I also know I’ll never read them now. It’s a great idea. I remember Brandee doing that before. I’m glad you had a good restful holiday. Mine was too restful as I spent it away from my family. Love the picture with your children and dogs. That looks like one to frame!

Lady Hotspur sounds like something I might like. I hope you enjoy both your new review books! And good luck with your challenge to read more of your own books! I am always trying to find a balance between the old and new. I love the photos! Such cute puppies. 🙂 Your time off sounds perfect. I took a couple days off from work and did pretty much nothing, which was so nice after such a busy year. I hope you have a great week. Happy new Year!

  6. Wow! 60 books! That’s an amazing way to show your support. I have only read books by Cole, and I loved them all. That puppies in action picture made my heart burst. I love it!!! Good luck with the new semester.

Saw some of that about the RWA and buying books is the best way to show support. I’ve got many of their books and now I just need to read them, story of my book life, LOL

I like the Unearthing Bookish Bounty challenge you both are doing together. My goal is more along the 50/50 lines of new and older books (but when I say new, I mean library, KU, Prime, arcs, and only a smidge of purchased). I also do a TBR pile older read each month. The biggest thing is avoiding taking even the freebies. 😉

Ahhhh, love the pups and kids picture. And, yay for you getting to relax and rest for most of your work and school break.

Have a great weekend and start of the year, Linda!

  8. I don’t have a lot of books I want to get this year. I have a list but not as much as last year. I want to read more books from my shelf and ebooks.

Love the kids and puppy picture! I am glad your time off was super relaxing.

Have a great week, Linda! Happy Reading! xx
my fingers keep wanting to type Lexxie! lol

  9. Aw what a cute pic! Hope your new year is starting out fabulous! And glad you had a nice holiday. I imagine it’s nice to relax and catch your breath a bit after a hectic semester.

    Have a great week!!! 🙂

  10. I envy you. Lady Hotspur is on my wishlist too but I have other books to read first. Your Bookish Bounty challenge is such a great idea. Happy reading and good luck to you both for this challenge.

    Best Wishes

  11. Glad you have managed to fully relax – and the pic of your offspring with the dogs is lovely. I have also had an arc of Lady Hotspur – it’s an interesting book and I look forward to hearing what you make of it. Hope your week back to work is a good one, Linda.

Happy New Years Linda. I’m glad you we’re able to relax and spend time with your family. And what a gorgeous photo!

Good luck with getting back to work on Monday. I’m honesty a little glad things are going back to normal. Eventhough I’ve been working throughout the holidays, I just miss the normal days. And especially normal food LOL!!

Have a great week and happy reading!

  13. I’m checking out the challenges you mentioned at the beginning. I’m sort of relieved that the holidays are finally over and I can get back to work and routine 🙂

  14. What lovely children you have! I love that photo. I’m glad you are enjoying your holiday and how like you to support the marginalized authors. Interesting that you have the Unearthing a Bookish Bounty because other than hosting Library Love and always COYER that is what I am doing this year. I own so many books, especially audiobooks which I want to read and never do because ARCs and library books which have due dates always end up first. So good luck! Have a great week back in the normal.

  15. I think its great that you are reading books you already own. They can be so easily forgotten when we focus on new books. Definitely going to focus on that more. Hope you have a great week.
