Happy 2020, y’all!
I can’t believe we’re into a new year much less a new decade. To kick off a new year/decade, Linda and I are kicking off a self-challenge: Unearthing a Bookish Bounty. I’m sure we’ve all participated in challenges where we read books we own. Well, I decided I wanted to read exclusively (almost) what I own in 2020 because I know I have quite a bookish bounty on my shelves. And Linda was gracious enough (she’s such a wonderful blogger wife!) to agree to participate as well. Here’s a little glimpse into why this challenge is essential to me:
As you can see, I have more than enough physical books to keep me reading for quite a long while. And I didn’t show you the number of ebooks I own. π These are the rules governing our Unearthing a Bookish Bounty challenge.
Rules:
- We WILL READ books we already own!
- We will not accept ARCs unless they’re from our lists of ARC Team authors
Brandee’s List:
Jana Aston
Julie Huss
Tara Lain
Michelle Mankin - Linda’s List:
Jana Aston
Sawyer Bennett
Lori Foster
Julie Huss
Tara Lain
Christina Lauren
Michelle Mankin
Tiffany Reisz
Kennedy Ryan
Jill Shalvis - When reading books from a series where we don’t own all the books, there’s no buying the next book unless we’re going to read it immediately.
- Any books we purchase must be done with a gift card. The only exceptions for Brandee are: 1) audiobooks since I have an Audible subscription, and 2) any book required for book club that I don’t already own and can’t procure any other way.
- Linda has an exception for audibooks as well, as she, too has an Audible subscription.Plus, she also has a The BookwormBox subscription for e-books.

What do y’all think? Can we do it? I think it’ll be a challenge π for us both but maybe more so for Linda. LOL We’ll keep you posted. π
I love this! I have really thought about doing something like this but I was afraid that I really wouldn’t stick with it. I like that you both have a list that you can accept review copies from and rules for buying. That make the plan flexible enough to work. Good luck!
LOL, we really needed to do something to make sure temptation wouldn’t totally ruin the challenge before the first week of the year π thanks, Carole!
oh wow….that is an amazing challenge you have there. And my goodness…..look at all those beautiful books on all of those shelves. I am so envious. Good for you on working on reading the books you already own.
Yeah, Brandee’s shelves are totally made of awesome, aren’t they?
i can’t do this one… i borrow mine from the library! but it will be cool to see yours
That’s even better – it means you’re not adding too many books to your shelves at home π
Oh I’m so impressed! And very envious of your shelving system – though I suspect I, too, would stack it with allll those books, or ones like it:). Best of luck, Linda! I look forward to hearing of your progress.
Thanks Sarah! π
OMG – and I thought my pile of unread books is huge *lol* My TBR is nothing compared to Brandee’s shelves … Great idea. Wishing you both happy reading and good luck.
I’m pretty sure the book cons we’ve been to together are partly responsible for all those unread books π It’s almost impossible to say ‘no’ to free books, right?
Thanks, Vi!
I’m impressed with your challenge, well, self-challenge and I’m definitely envious of those bookshelves. π I haven’t done anything “official” like a challenge but I have made the decision to request less ARCs and clear up my own TBR pile. I kept a notebook of books bought last year – and it’s embarrassing how many I still need to read – so that’s an unofficial plan for me this coming year. I wish you both a huge success on this. Your determination and self-restraint is pretty amazing. π
gah. Forgot to say : Marsha @ Keeper Bookshelf. the mind is going I’m afraid lol
We’ve started a Facebook Group for this challenge if you want to join us π
