Sadie Townsend is known by all as The Ice Princess and she’s worked hard to earn her reputation. Her father, a now-incarcerated Drug Lord, has kept her under his thumb her whole life and she’s learned enough from living in his world to give everyone the cold shoulder. But one inebriated night, she shows the Real Sadie to the undercover agent she knows is investigating her father, the handsome Hector Chavez, and he knows he’ll stop at nothing to have her.

Hector makes one (huge) mistake; he waits for Sadie to come to him. Tragedy strikes and Sadie’s got a choice, she can retreat behind her Ice Fortress or she can embrace the Rock Chick/Hot Bunch World. Guided by Hector, the Rock Chicks, the Hot Bunch and her new gay roommates, Buddy and Ralphie, Sadie negotiates a life out from under her father’s thumb, a life that includes poison, arson and learning how to make s’mores.

Sadie broke my heart, but she was very good at putting it back together again with her strength and love, and this made Rock Chick Regret a strong and heartfelt story.

My Rock Chick Regret review:

I have no idea how Sadie was able to not only survive everything she went through, but actually still feel strong, confident and sure of herself the way she did! Rock Chick Regret brings even more darkness to the main female character than the prior books in the series, and I think it needs a trigger warning, because Sadie was abused, kidnapped and raped – even if that did not happen ‘on screen’ it is discussed quite a lot, as is the injures inflicted on her during her horrible ordeal. I found Sadie’s strength to be nothing short of amazing, because even as she dealt with her inner and outer hurts and bruises, she was able to get back on her feet, and her will and confidence were almost always strong.

The other main character in Rock Chick Regret was Hector ‘Oh My God’ Chavez (lol, I almost wrote oh my bod instead… freudian slip!) and I was so happy to get his story. He’s Eddie’s brother, and he has intrigued me for several books. I think Hector is my favorite of the Hot Bunch, because he actually listened to Sadie. He gave her space and time, but he also told her that she was it for him, and that he would do whatever he could to make sure he was it for her. And that just had to make me swoon, you know? He was really there for her – even at a distance – when she went through a very traumatic event, and he showed her that he both loved and respected her.

I loved how the Rock Chicks were protective of Hector at the beginning of the story, but when they realized that Sadie was important to him, they took her under their crazy, protective, fun and loving wings and included her into the fold of their group and family without any trouble at all. Rock Chick Regret went deeper into the pasts of the characters, too, especially as it became apparent that Sadie might have been a Rock Chick from the start because her mother was friends with Lee’s and Indy’s mom.

As the story unfolded, at a very fast pace, getting to know Sadie was so enjoyable I also fell almost instantly in love with her! Even with all she went through, I couldn’t help but enjoy her and all of her story, because that made her who she was. Her development was truly amazing – going from the ice princess who protected her heart at all cost to one who openly showed affection and love, and who could finally trust someone to catch her if she fell was beautiful! Throughout the story, seeing how Sadie grew up, and her thinking both she and her mother had meant nothing at all to her father made my heart ache, and I wanted to wrap my arms around Sadie and just shower her in love – good thing Hector was able to do that for her.

Written in first person past tense and mostly from Sadie’s point of view, this story was deep, and it showed all the wounds Sadie carried with her, even those she had hidden deep. Another Rock Chick Winner, and I have to admit I’m addicted to the series, the Hot Bunch and the ladies have become my new favorite imaginary friends!

Some of my favorite Rock Chick Regret quotes:

“Why do you want to take care of me?”
His body went still for a few seconds, then he kissed the top of my head. “We’ll save that for another talk.”
I didn’t think I wanted to have another talk with Hector. This one didn’t go so well for me.

I looked helplessly up at Hector. He was doing the fighting-a-grin thing again. I narrowed my eyes at him. The grin grew into a glamorous, white smile.

Blooming heck. How totally bizarre was that? I could be my own soap opera.

  1. This sounds like such an amazing book! Characters are the make it or break it factor for me when I’m reading and Hector and Sadie sound so great. I’m so glad there was character development with Sadie, like you said. I haven’t read the other books in the series but I really like the sound of the dynamic between the Rock Chicks. I think this is one I’ll have to pick up soon!

  2. you’re making me want to read book 2! that’s bad! I don’t have the time for now lol and I know I’ll have to buy all the books the ones after the others if they’re still that good!

  3. Gah! I’m so happy that I’m going to be re-reading this series in 2016, Lex. 😉 You’ve been killing me with these reviews. I adored Sadie and Hector’s story as well. It was dark but it was sweet too. One thing that I LOVE about the Rock Chick series is the female solidarity…that the Rock Chicks would enfold Sadie into their crew is just something they’d do without thinking because she was important to Hector, therefore important to them. 🙂 That’s a common thread throughout this series and one more reason I love it! I’m looking forward to your review of Ally & Ren’s story. 😉

    • I have some of the Rock Chick books on audio, so I might very well do a re-read (or listen) next year, too, Brandee. I’m so happy you got me to read this series, I love it! And you’re right the female solidarity is definitely one of the strong points of the series:
