Read a Series Month Challenge - (un)Conventional Bookviews

Can You Read a Series in a Month?

Berls @ Fantasy is More Fun and Michelle @ Because Reading – temptresses that they are – have a new challenge for us all to participate in for the month of August. If you’re like me, you have more than one series you’re itching to read… one with several books already published, in the genre you love the most, and it’s just kind of sitting there waiting for you to get started? Fear no more! There is a challenge for that, now ๐Ÿ˜‰ Do you think you can read a series in a month? Or at least get started with one?

If you know me at all, you know that I’m one for not completely following the rules when it comes to other people’s challenges. I’m not exactly breaking the rules, more like tweaking them a little bit. And for once, I actually have Michelle’s blessing to tweak, as she agrees with me that I might be in a different kind of mood in August than I am now. So I’m mentioning more than one series I’d like to read, and I will get to one of those next month.

For my Can You Read a Series in a Month challenge, here are the series I’m contemplating reading :

The Edge by Ilona Andrews. I own the first three books in this series on audio already, and I absolutely love their writing, so there’s a good chance I’ll have fun with it in August!

Almost all my blogger friends are raving about Jennifer Estep’s Elemental Assassin series, and of course, I have already gotten my hands on the first book, plus I have more than enough audible credits to continue getting more, too.

The Lily Bard series by Charlaine Harris – I’ve read the first one, and own four more… So yeah, it would be a good idea to continue with this one.

The Argenau series by Lynsay Sands is another where I’ve read the first book and own several more.

And last but not least, the Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones… Here, I have read the first three books, but with ten books already out, it wouldn’t be a problem at all to get three books read in August.

  1. I wasn’t going to do it b/c the series I’m working on right now is beyond book one, but if we can tweak and just read three in a row from a series then I might do it with Eileen Wilk’s World of the Lupi as I have the last three books to read to catch up that series. ๐Ÿ™‚

Good luck on whichever one you pick, Lexxie!

  2. Oh, I think you should do it, Sophia!! I think we’re supposed to actually read ALL the published books in a series, though… not only three – which is why the Charley Davidson series might be a bit difficult for me to do since I have seven books to read in that one. We shall see.
Your World of the Lupi should work, though…

  3. I am thinking of doing Percy Jackson as I need to finish that series and still have three left. As much as I would like to do Charlie D, I have only just started and there is no way I could do that in one month…lol. There are a few on your list that I need to start but haven’t yet…lol. Good luck with which ever one you pick. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Sometimes I feel like you are always trying to bend the rules just a bit ๐Ÿ˜‰
Good Luck! I hope you enjoy which ever one you pick. I am a very slow reader so I am worried I wont be able to read the 3 books I picked. Getting a little nervous! I will be taking one with me when I go away so with a week to read maybe I can do it ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Yeah, I totally admit I’m very often trying to bend the rules a bit, Michelle… I think it’s because on my blog, I kind of can ๐Ÿ˜‰ There are many rules in real life that really aren’t meant for bending, so I do it where it’s possible!
I think I should probably go with a series with as few books to read as possible, as I have a lot of other things to do in August, too… Plus, there are other books to read as well!
I’m sure you’ll be able to read three in a series – once you get started, and if you enjoy the story – you’ll want more ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I think I might have at least one book from each series you mentioned! I’d like to do this challenge but kind of committed to some review books and don’t want to get to stressed out. LOL I’ll be watching!

You’re more ambitious than I am! lol I have a lot of unfinished series that need reading, but they all have much more than 3 or 4 books; and since I want bragging rights too, I figured I’d better play it safe this time and pick something with no more than 4 books to read.

I’m curious about Elemental Assassin. I’m going to have to check in and see which series you end up picking to read, though. Happy reading! ๐Ÿ˜€

  7. I can definitely read a series in a month if I have nothing else going on. The last one I read in a month was The Selection Series. You have some good picks here for your challenge! I wouldn’t know which one to go with!

  8. Depends on the series. Some I can read several times in a month. LOL these look like very interesting ones; I know I have Lily Bard on my to read list.

Go ahead and bend away – after all what are we going to do? Get on a plane and cross the Atlantic to get you ๐Ÿ˜‰ you’ve got some good ones up there, for sure. I have to say, I just recently devoured the Charley Davidson series and though it is 10 books (or 7 in your case) I don’t think any of them were more than 9 hours on audio. And if you’re like me, that goes super fast (partly because I listed at 2x speed) – I think I read 9 books in 2 months and I don’t read nearly as quickly as you. Something to think about ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Darn it all, Berls!! What am I going to have to do to actually make you get on a plane to cross the Atlantic to get me? :O ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜‰

I think I’m going to go with the Ilona Andrews series… I’m missing their writing a lot, so it’d be good.
