Seven years ago, my world ended.
Seven years later, my new life began. It's been seven years since Lexi Knight lost her brother in a tragic accident. On the anniversary of his death, her brother's best friend shows up unexpectedly - a man she hasn't seen since the funeral. He is no longer the boy Lexi once knew, but a dangerous-looking man with tattoos and dark secrets. He broke her trust and abandoned her family, yet what he reveals makes it impossible to stay angry. Lexi has been secretly infatuated with Austin since childhood, so finding out he's a Shifter just makes him sexier. Dammit.
Austin Cole has returned to the city where he grew up, and just in time. He's lived a hard life these past seven years, and the shadows of his past are threatening to destroy Lexi's family. It's time that she learned the truth about her brother, but there is a shocking twist that Austin never saw coming. Now he must protect her family when her mother and sister wind up in mortal danger. Will Lexi learn to accept the truth about who he is, and can Austin salvage a relationship from the ruins of their past?
*I received a free ARC of Seven Years from Enchantress of Books Blogtours in exchange of an honest review*
Welcome to my stop on the Seven Years blogtour! I was so excited when I heard that Ms. Dark had a new series she had started to write, I wanted to read it straight away! And Seven is truly off to a great start. It’s a paranormal romance but the main character doesn’t even know she’s a shapeshifter when the story starts. How is that for a shock, eh? Lexi is a pretty normal twenty-seven year old woman who works in a candy-shop. She’s not exactly happy with where she is in her life, but she’s not completely unhappy either. Still dealing with the loss of her brother who died seven years ago, she mourns both him and his best friend Austin who disappeared the day after.
Lexi has a pretty good relationship with her mom and her much younger sister, but her dad is completely out of the picture and has been for a while. When Lexi suddenly notices Austin is back in town, she’s not happy to see him at first, and he thinks the little girl is her daughter, not her sister. Austin notices straight away that something is going on with Lexi, and he soon realizes that she is about to change into her wolf for the first time very soon. Not sure how to tell her, he keeps her in the dark at first, but there are other men who are shifters out there, and some are sniffing around Lexi in a big way.
I really loved Lexi, even if she adjusted to her new situation almost too easily. It’s not a bad thing that she was able to cope with things, of course, but I think most people would freak completely out at least for a little while. Lexi finally understands why her dad has always seemed to hate her, and she also gets that this explains some other weird things in her life as well. She gets some new friends, as Austin is very tight with his brothers – who are all very nice looking guys/wolves! I also enjoyed the fact that Lexi has some pretty good girlfriends, Naya is her unconventional neighbor, and April is her colleague who is slowly becoming a friend.
The world building is well done, it isn’t overly complicated, and the way new characters are introduced makes it easy for readers to follow who is who in this world where there are shifters and some kind of magic users as well. Lexi is a good and strong female character, and Austin is a great pack-leader! Of course, there is another pack-leader who has set his eyes on Lexi as well, and she will have to make some choices. Between Lorenzo and Austin, there is some kind of animosity, but they are both ready to step up to protect Lexi from her dead-beat ex when she needs to.
Seven Years is a great start to this new series. The writing is really good, the characters are enjoyable, the world is both paranormal and urban fantasy based, which is my favorite fictional world ever! There is some serious hotness going on, and I am so happy to get a new series from one of my favorite authors. As those who usually read my blog know, I’m a total fangirl, and the Mageri series is one of my favorite series ever. If you’re looking for the start of a new series with a spunky heroine and some hot shifters, you should definitely pick up Seven Years!
It used to be a fun place to work… when I was twenty-one. But now I was twenty-seven and this shit was getting old.
“I’m a Shifter,” he sad. “Shifter,” I repeated blandly. “You move around? What does that mean?” “Shapeshifter.” My shoulders sagged. “I don’t have time for jokes.”
And just like that, Austin Cole stood up for me. Not because of pride, male territorial instinct, family obligation or even jealousy. But because it was something that mattered… to me.
“I’m quite sure I’m not going to marry a man over a silly display of peacockery,” I added. “Pea-whatery?”
Woohoo! ‘Spunky heroine and hot shifters’?!? AND it’s by Dannika Dark? I’m sold! 🙂 I’m thrilled Ms. Dark didn’t let you down with her new series, Lexxie. And I’m also thrilled that I’ll have a new series by her to read once I’m finished with the Mageri.
I’m glad you got a little snow. We still have snow on the ground but I was thinking that your weather sounds an awful lot like mine. 🙂 I hope you’re having a fantastic Friday, Lexxie! *hugs*
Oh man, Brandee, you’ll love Seven as well. And yes, spunky heroine and hot shifters indeed 😀 Hurry up with the Mageri series, Brandee, there’s a new book coming out in not too long!
Our weather is kind of the same but when the snow melts too quickly it’s only dark and cold 🙁 Have a great weekend my friend! *hugs*
I love the cover ! I heard great things about the author but I confess I ‘ve never read a book by her yet. I should try!

I love stories about shape shifters. Great world building is important in paranormal stories, so I’m glad this story had it, and I love strong female leading characters! Wonderful Review Lexxie 🙂
