Teaser Tuesday - (un)Conventional Bookviews

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB @ A Daily Rhythm. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page

BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
Share the title and author, too, so that other Teaser Tuesday participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers.

Teaser Tuesday #58

My teaser today is from Texas Kissing by Helena Newbury, it’s a fun contemporary NA romance, but with some pretty dark secrets in the female protagonist’s past.

Texas Kissing cover - (un)Conventional Bookviews

Lily – To escape my uncle–one of New York’s most dangerous mob bosses–I had to create a whole new life. I became an expert forger, fled to Texas and never let anyone get close to me again. I didn’t figure on having my life saved by a huge, muscled cowboy. He’s arrogant, stubborn and he’s the local stud…so why is he interested in a curvy girl like me? And if he annoys me so much…why can’t I stop fantasizing about him?

Bull – As soon as I saw her, I knew I had to have her. Lily had curves that didn’t quit and too many goddamn secrets. Well, I was going to uncover every inch of her…

My Teaser:

Then two gleaming white horns emerged from the darkness. Oh shit. I’m 5’5”. The bull’s shoulders came to the top of my head. It was only walking at the moment, but each step was a pissed-off stamp. It was eying me with a look that said, what the fuck are you doing in my home? I glanced around. I was roughly in the middle of the area, too far from either fence to get there in time.

What’s your teaser today? Please share – it’s not as if a few more books on my TBR mountain will make that big of a difference 😉

  1. Someplace I never want to get caught? In a fenced in area with a pissed off bull… LOL Luckily, I’ve never had the experience but I’ve watched some cowboys deal with pissed off bulls. (I am from Texas 😉 ) Why did I know nothing about this book, Lexxie? I thought I was up-to-date on Newbury’s books. I haven’t read them all but I own them. But apparently I don’t. Well, this is going on my wishlist. You know I love Newbury’s writing and I’m never one to pass on a book with a cowboy. Plus, I’m intrigued with Lily and all her secrets. 🙂

    • This one will be released on Friday, and I’m trying to read it in time to have my review up for release day 😀
I’ve seen pissed off bulls, too, Brandee, because I went to the Calgary Stampede many years ago 🙂 Not the animal I would feel comfortable with even if it wasn’t pissed off, I think.

Thanks for the teaser and sounds like a really good book to read, and different! “I’m worried about Tilde.” “He spoke perfect English. His voice was so soft, like a cushion – you could rest your head and fall asleep on the sound of his allegations. He uttered my name like I was a dear friend. No wonder the public adores him. He could imitate the sound of genuine affection faultlessly. I had to pinch myself not to believe it. But it was a lie. The trick of a professional showman.” from the Farm by Tom Rob Smith. Minimal romance but plenty of intrigue. Hope your day is as fab as you! Hugs…Ro

” I wondered if Mrs. Hawley’s husband believed Indian John was innocent. Mr. Hawley was a quiet sort of man who seemed to do more thinking than most folks, so I hoped that he did.”

Set in 1812 an Ojibway is caught and held as a murder in the home of Major Carver. Carver’s daughters Laura and Rebecca are tasked with caring for the prisoner. Rebecca soon finds herself thinking differently about Indians and hopes he is innocent. Laura treads the line wanting to believe the best about the captive, but not wanting to disobey their cruel father. (A Yearling YA novel)
