Relativity by Antonia Hayes

Twelve-year-old Ethan Forsythe, an exceptionally talented boy obsessed with physics and astronomy, has been raised alone by his mother in Sydney, Australia. Claire, a former professional ballerina, has been a wonderful parent to Ethan, but he’s becoming increasingly curious about his father’s absence in his life. Claire is fiercely protective of her talented, vulnerable son—and of her own feelings. But when Ethan falls ill, tied to a tragic event that occurred during his infancy, her tightly-held world is split open.
Thousands of miles away on the western coast of Australia, Mark is trying to forget about the events that tore his family apart, but an unexpected call forces him to confront his past and return home. When Ethan secretly intercepts a letter from Mark to Claire, he unleashes long-suppressed forces that—like gravity—pull the three together again, testing the limits of love and forgiveness.
Told from the alternating points of view of Ethan and each of his parents,Relativity is a poetic and soul-searing exploration of unbreakable bonds, irreversible acts, the limits of science, and the magnitude of love.

The Aeronaut's Windlass cover - (un)Conventional Bookviews

The Aeronaut’s Windlass by Jim Butcher

Since time immemorial, the Spires have sheltered humanity, towering for miles over the mist-shrouded surface of the world. Within their halls, aristocratic houses have ruled for generations, developing scientific marvels, fostering trade alliances, and building fleets of airships to keep the peace.
Captain Grimm commands the merchant ship, Predator. Fiercely loyal to Spire Albion, he has taken their side in the cold war with Spire Aurora, disrupting the enemy’s shipping lines by attacking their cargo vessels. But when the Predator is severely damaged in combat, leaving captain and crew grounded, Grimm is offered a proposition from the Spirearch of Albion—to join a team of agents on a vital mission in exchange for fully restoring Predator to its fighting glory.
And even as Grimm undertakes this dangerous task, he will learn that the conflict between the Spires is merely a premonition of things to come. Humanity’s ancient enemy, silent for more than ten thousand years, has begun to stir once more. And death will follow in its wake…

  1. Nice mix of genres this week! It’s typical that I have grabbed a lot of different sounding books over the last few weeks but I can’t read them until November because this is my Spooky Booky month! Typical! Enjoy your books!

  2. Wow, Lexxie, you picked some good ones this week! 🙂 I have this feeling…this feeling that each of these books will end up on my TBR pile! *haha* My question to you is, how are you going to pick which one to read first???
I hope your weekend is going well so far! We have a band competition today…woohoo! And I still have laryngitis and a bad back. Boo. **BIG HUGS**

    • Ha! Sinders and Ash was awesome – Tara Lain always manages to pull all the strings of my emotions. As for the others, I haven’t decided what to read first yet… It’s always a very hard choice 😉
I hope the band competition went well, and I really, really hope you’ll get rid of that laryngitis, and that your back will be all good again. *BIG HUGS*

  3. You picked up some great books. I’ve heard good things about Butcher’s latest story. Sinders and Ash looked good until it got to the cross dressing. Curious to see what you think. Butterfly Dreams looks like a very emotional story. I might have to check it out.

    Happy reading!

    • Actually, it isn’t cross-dressing per say, Sinders makes his own clothes, and it was easy for him to use his own measurements, which is why the clothes fit him. So when Mr. Pennymaker asked him to show his clothes to potential investors, Sinders modeled himself – even if he felt a bit weird about that.

I have the Butcher book but haven’t read it yet. Call me the slacker. Have a great week!
