Review: Slow Ride – Lori Foster

Slow Ride was a very nice slow romance, and I really appreciated that. Both because Ronnie had been through so much she didn’t believe in love anymore, and because Jack was so patient. He just knew waiting was going to be worth it!

Story:

Ronnie was the kind of heroine that knows what she wants, and she usually goes after it with no qualms. She also knows well what she doesn’t want – and she was sure she didn’t want Jack once she realized she’d see him more than just for one night. Slow Ride started with a chance meeting, then went on to have Ronnie and Jack working together.

There was danger in Slow Ride, a mysterious man following Ronnie, stalking her, and making her life rather difficult. For years, she’d been on the run, and she was ready to run again. Until Jack made her see that things might be different this time around.

Driving to strange places to pick up artifacts that had to do with prisons or prisoners, Ronnie’s job wasn’t exactly easy. And it wasn’t always safe, either. And that’s why the twins who hired Ronnie to pick up their art decided to hire Jack as well. As security. Slow Ride was a slow burning romance, and I loved getting to know the characters in this one! The suspense was kind of on the back burner, until suddenly, it wasn’t.

Characters:

Ronnie is a strong woman, she’s separated herself from all her friends and family – to keep both them and herself safe. And she’s used to taking care of herself. Not happy with the security her employers have set up for her, she does everything she can to get rid of him.

Jack first met Ronnie at a bar, and he really liked her right off the bat. When she suddenly shied away when she heard his name, he was disappointed and thought that was it. Until they met again the next morning.

Writing style :

Slow Ride is written in third person point of view, past tense, and it worked really well. The narrator knows everything there is to know about both Ronnie and Jack, which made it easy to connect with both them and the other characters.

Feels :

As always, Foster brought the feels! I felt both the love and the heat and the insecurities in Slow Ride. Of course, I also felt the fear and the trepidation – and I loved it!

She probably could have found an agreeable man. After all, when it came to sex, most men were easy. 

It wasn’t about needing anyone. It was about family who helped buffer disappointments, who celebrated accomplishments. Who had your back on those occasions when things went south, as they sometimes did. It was someone to listen, and someone to give you shit, each at the appropriate times. It was laughter and bickering, holidays together, and visiting just because.
