Weekend Wrap-up is where I share my new books, as well as what happened here at (un)Conventional Bookworms and elsewhere in the blogoshpere. I’m linking up with the usual suspects, AKA Team Tynga’s Reviews and Caffeinated Reviewer.

STS #312

Stacking The Shelves, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality is all about the latest additions to my library – virtual or actual, with books that are  bought, borrowed, won or ARCs  I will (probably) be reading soon. Without further ado, here’s what I added to my bloated shelves this past week:

I also got In a Holidaze (by Christina Lauren) from Gallery Books via Edelweiss, and it doesn’t even have a cover yet. These three books have been highly anticipated, and I’m reading Queen Move right now 🙂

The Sunday Post #253 – Weekend Wrap-up

Kim @ The Caffeinated Reviewer, is our hostess with the mostest for the weekly Sunday Post where I’m wrapping things up. It is the perfect opportunity to share what happened here on my own blog, as well as some of the happenings elsewhere in the Blogosphere.

My husband’s covid-19 test came back negative, and he’s back in good health again. Thank you to all who sent good thoughts his way!

School started up again here – primary schools and middle schools opened up this past Monday, so I have been back at work for my middle-schoolers. Only half the students come in at a time, each class is cut in two, where one part of the students come to school mornings, the other part afternoons. Then, the week after, they switch. We have social distancing in place, there is disinfectant in each classroom, and we also have hand sanitizers everywhere. It has been quite nice to be out and about again, and the students are so happy to be back to school.

Did you get some good books last week? What have you been up to this past week? Thanks for stopping by, I hope you’re enjoying your weekend, and that next week will be filled with awesome!

  1. So glad to hear your husband’s test came back negative. And best of luck returning to school… Our childen are supposed to be starting back at the beginning of June, subject to the R number staying below 1. Have a great week, Linda:)

    • It’s been a good week all around! The students were happy to be back in school, and several told me they do need their teachers to be present so that they can learn.
The R number has stayed below 1 here since some shops opened on April 27th, so we are slowly moving forward here 🙂
Have a great week yourself, Sarah!

  2. oh what a great book haul! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Queen Move.

I’m glad your husband is well. I hope things go well; I’m still worried about going out. Since we don’t have to go out, we aren’t.

Have a great week! Take care of you!

Anne – Books of My Heart Here is my Sunday Post

    • Queen Move was a gem, Anne! It is both well written, has amazing characters, and I loved the overall story so much. I can’t wait for the whole world to read it!
I’m OK with going out to go to work, which is kind of strange… but I think I felt the need to see my students in person. It’s been a good week.
Take care of you, too, Anne, stay safe!

Glad your husband’s test was negative! That’s a relief! Also glad to hear he’s feeling better too! That’s great about your schools starting back up. A nice system too. I can’t really see any of our schools around here doing half days like that…but I guess we’ll see what happens come fall this year since our schools are all mostly done this year having finished the year up online.

Nice new reads! They are all totally new to me ones but I hope you enjoy them all!

My StS will be up tomorrow, so stop by then if you can!

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

    • Yes, the relief was very real! It was stressing to wait for the result, but we felt like celebrating when we got it.
It has been nice to be back to school, seeing the students for real is much better than doing video conferences. And having only half the class means that it’s a lot easier to help the weaker students and also to challenge the stronger students.
      Thanks for stopping by, Jessica.

  4. School has started here too for some grades. My brother doesn’t have to go yet though. He’s 15 so he’s in secondary school and only the last year has to go there at the moment. Not sure if he’ll go to school at all this year, even! We’ll have to wait and see.
Hercules and Freddy are super cute as always! 😀

    • Yeah, here it’s up to middle-school where students go to school. I feel like it’s easier to teach with only half of the students present, I can give each of them a bit more attention this way. Our high schools are supposed to open on June 8th, but with a different kind of school day. We’ll set up different work shops, and students can choose where they want to go.
🙂 Thanks for stopping by, Stephanie!

  5. Jen

Wow! I hope you, the students and the staff all stay healthy! Our kids aren’t returning this year – but they only have three partial weeks left. Glad you are able to get out and about!

    • It was a very good week, Jen. And we have everything we need to stay safe and healthy – social distancing even in the classroom, and cleaning very often helps. I guess we won’t know until in a few weeks if it really works, though.

  6. Sophia Rose

Good news about your hubby! Sounds like good plans in place to finish out the school year for you.

Oooh, looks like a sexy hot haul for you this week. 🙂

The puppies are sure enjoying their outside time.

    Have a good week, Linda!

    • Yes, it was so good to get those news!
It’s nice to see the students, and just make sure they understand everything before the summer start (at the end of June).
My haul is very sexy indeed 😀 I have already read – and loved! – Queen Move. So, so good.
Thanks for stopping by Sophia. Stay safe and healthy 🙂

  7. I was curious as to how they were handling social distancing in the classroom. It could be kind of nice working with half as many students at a time. I always loved the small group work so much more than full class. Glad your husband is feeling better, and whew! Thank goodness it wasn’t the virus. I am jelly you have the new Christina Lauren. I am really excited that they did a holiday book. Can’t wait to hear about it.

    • It’s actually very nice to have only half the students at a time 🙂 They are also very motivated after being home for two months.
I can’t wait to read the new CLo book, I love them!
Thanks for stopping by, Sam 🙂

  8. Oh I’m so glad to hear your husband tested negative! yay for good news!! And glad to hear too that the school reopening seems to be going well. I imagine the kids are glad to be back after all the lockdowns.

Herc and Freddy look happy. 🙂

Take care and have a great week Linda!

  9. Linda, it is great to hear your husband’s Covid-19 test came back negative and that he is on the mend. Also sounds like you have started a good phased re-opening of schools – Everything is very up in the air here about how schools are going to re-open. For now my school is only open for a few key worker’s children and we have a rota for staff to go in. I am in twice this coming week, which I am looking forward to because it is nice to get out and feel more physically useful.

And thank you – I hope your coming week in filled with awesomeness, too! Take care and happy reading! ?

    • Yes, I have rarely been so relieved in my life, Jessica!
It is very nice to be able to go back to school and teach, and having only half the students make things much easier! There’s less distractions, and it’s easier to help the students who need it, and challenge the ones who need that. I hope your two days of work next week will be good!
      Thanks for stopping by!

Despite the increasing movements, Dubai has not allowed the schools to reopen yet. Given that it is the holy month of Ramadan, things are getting better!

It’s wonderful news about your husband Linda! I’m sure it’s a relief. Sounds like back to school when okay?! How many students do you have the time now? Things must be going much slower huh? But it sounds like they’re making good decisions to keep things safe. I bet it’s good to see the kids again and they’re happy to be at school oh, that’s a plus! Have a great week sending you lots of hugs!

  12. I’m glad your husband’s test came back negative – that must be very reassuring to hear.
It’s great that your school has all these measures in place too. Students can go back to having the full experience (or somewhat) now.

  13. Laurie

Glad to hear the covid-19 test for your husband came back negative! Our schools re-opened too, however only primary schools. And with the same restrictions as for your country. However, social distancing with younger kids sounds pretty hard. They need more help than the older ones. High schools might be opening in June, but could also be September. Some universities already stated they won’t open till at least February 2021, crazy hey?

I finally got a haircut, that was definitely needed after 2 months!

    Here’s mySunday post: https://www.lauriesbookshelf.com/tags-memes/the-sunday-post-may-17-2020/

  14. Happy to hear your husband is well. We’re finishing the year through remote learning, but only have 2 weeks left. I’m just hoping to be back in the classroom come fall. Happy reading!

  15. I’m glad to hear your husband is virus free.
Our schools are operating a little differently but in general the children are glad to be back.

Wishing you a great reading week

  16. I’m glad to hear your husband is healthy. All of your books look so good. Enjoy them. Have a great week and stay safe.

  17. Maureen Bakker

I’m glad to hear your husband is feeling better. That must have been very scary.
Primary schools have started back up here to.. the rest is still closed.
I’m glad being back at work has been good for you.

    Stay safe and happy reading.

Hope the new week continues to move along well. We’re still on hold in San Francisco. Happy reading.
