Weekend Wrap-up #237 – I’m Too Cocky For My Shirt…

Posted 12 May, 2018 by Linda @ (un)Conventional Bookworms in Memes, Wrap-up Posts / 52 Comments

Weekend Wrap-up is where I share my new books, as well as what happened here at (un)Conventional Bookviews and elsewhere in the blogoshpere. I’m linking up with the usual suspects, AKA Team Tynga’s Reviews and Caffeinated Reviewer.

STS / BB&B - (un)Conventional bookviews

STS #237

Stacking The Shelves, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality is all about the latest additions to my library – virtual or actual, with books that are  bought, borrowed, won or ARCs  I will (probably) be reading soon. Without further ado, here’s what I added to my bloated shelves this past week:

Purchased - (un)Conventional Bookviews bought borrowed and bagged stacking the shelves

I purchased a whole lot of books with the word cocky in the title… 15, to be exact. Because that’s just how I roll.

I also bought the first book in Kevin Kneupper’s series, as he’s the author (former IP lawyer) who has challenged the TM for cocky.

I’m part of a Facebook reader group, and every now and then, we do an exchange thing – this time it the theme was around the world, and we had to send books and other things from our home state, city, country to the person allocated to us. And I just received my gift – it’s made of awesome! Thanks again, Kate!

An amazing gift from a book-friend in Ohio 🙂

The Sunday Post #187 – Weekend Wrap-up

Kim @ The Caffeinated Reviewer, is our hostess with the mostest for the weekly Sunday Post where I’m wrapping things up. It is the perfect opportunity to share what happened here on my own blog, as well as some of the happenings elsewhere in the Blogosphere.

I’ve taken things rather easy and slow this week, and I’m feeling much better. Thank you all for sending me well wishes last weekend. I’ll do my best to comment back, but without any stress 🙂 We had Thursday off, and I don’t teach on Fridays, so I have a long weekend. Which is awesome!

And this is actually something on the blog, but I have added a privacy policy page, if you’re looking for it, it’s in the top menu of the blog.

There have been loads of posts about the cocky trademark, so I wanted to find some posts that talk about something else 🙂 Have you checked out:

Becca @ Bec and Bones who wonders Does My Opinion Count if I DNF? (my personal opinion is, that yes, it does!)

Chloe @ Book Dragons discusses New Releases or Backlist Books: Shiny vs Dusty?

Evelina @ Avalinah’s Books shared her TBR Spreadsheet – and it’s really helpful!

Kristen @ Metaphors and Moonlight has a Supernatural Creatures Quotes Quiz on her blog. Go take it! It’s fun 🙂

Did you get some good books last week? What have you been up to this past week? Thanks for stopping by, I hope you’re enjoying your weekend, and that next week will be filled with awesome!

  1. Glad you had an extra day off to help get over being sick. Nice pile from review. I got Vampire’s Faith, too. Haha, love your cocky collection. I got one of those.
Ah, Herc looks great lounging outside and cute Freddie and his bed all to himself.

    Have a great weekend, Lexxie!

  2. Oh wow!! You did amazing this week in the bookish hauling! Lol! Lots of new to me ones too! I don’t think I recognize any of these titles! I hope you enjoy each and every one of them!

Glad to hear you’re feeling better! And yay for long weekends! My next one isn’t until the end of the month and sadly, there’s going to be too much going on that weekend in particular so I won’t even really get to enjoy myself. Sob! And your puppies are just so cute! Hercules looks very relaxed as does Freddie! Lol!

My STS will be up tomorrow, so be sure to stop by then!

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

    • I definitely did well when it came to hauling books this week. And I have to say I’m quite happy with myself 🙂
That’s sad that you won’t get to enjoy yourself and just relax for your long weekend. Are you going to BookExpo this year?
I’ll do my best to stop by tomorrow, Jessica 🙂

      • Sadly I won’t be going. Traveling to NYC is too pricey from where I’m at. Then there’s the convention itself, hotel prices, traveling within NYC because I know I won’t be able to afford the convention hotel. I just can’t justify the cost. I want to go, but I highly doubt they’ll ever bring BEA back to Chicago after all the flak people threw about it moving there for one year. 🙁

        • That’s too bad, Jessica, as I am going again this year. For me, it’s a big investment no matter where it is, as I have to fly across the Atlantic to get there anyway. But I think it’s still worth it for me, as I can discover many new to me authors.
For your sake, I hope they will bring it back to Chicago one day.

  3. Wow, so many “cocky” titles! I have noticed a trend with some repetitive words. Lately, I’ve had many with “lies” and “Mother.” I’ve never had one with “cocky,” though. LOL

Glad you’re feeling better…enjoy your week!

    • There are only so many words that can describe a certain type of male character in romance, and last week, an author trademarked the word. Which is why I was showing my support to all those other authors who already had that word in their title…
Thanks for stopping by Laurel-Rain 🙂

  4. Feeling cocky this week? 🙂 I’m pretty sure there’s only one author who can use that word now, or so I heard. Oh I see you addressed that- okay good. Ha.

Enjoy your long weekend! Hercules cracks me up- he looks so comfy…

    • Yeah, it’s almost funny, but not really. I’m glad to see how many authors and bloggers have done something to help, and this was my way.
They always make me want to take naps, too, Laura. They look like it’s the best thing in the world.

  5. RO

Happy Mother’s Day and glad you’re on the mend. That word cocky is popping all over the reading Internet these days, and I’m thrilled to see you have a few. (lol) Anything with Dr. Suess is just plain fabulous, so congrats on that gift. Hope your day is as amazing as you are! Hugs…RO

  6. Glad to hear you’re feeling better this week. And good for you for buying all those books with cocky in the title, the whole thing is ridiculous.

  7. Eve

Some cuties like always! Also looks like you scored a pretty awesome haul this week! Happy reading!

  8. Holy Boook Haul!!! There are some pretty amazing ones too! Glad to hear you were able to get some time to rest and get feeling better. Enjoy all those new books and your upcoming week.

  9. That’s some amazing bookmail Lexxie! And a very good haul of “cocky” books. I don’t read romance novels, but I was really happy to see how the community stepped up and supported all those authors affected by those ridiculous emails. Hope you’re enjoying the long weekend 🙂

  10. Yay for you and all your cockiness, Lexxie:)). I’m glad to hear you are feeling better and hope that you are able to continue to be able to feel less stressed… Have a great week and hope you have a stellar reading week with all those cocky new reads!

  11. Hercules and Freddy look like they have the life of luxury…I’m sure they’re as spoiled as mine! I hope this week goes well for you and glad the stress is down. I think I’m gonna have to check in to Murder Girl. And what a great package!

  12. Aww sorry you had a rough time. Glad you’re feeling better!
You were pretty cocky there, buying all those books with the trademarked word in the title. 😉
I’m so tempted by the Scarlett Cole book!

    Have a wonderful week, Lexxie!

PS. Hercules looks like a king on his throne 😀

  13. I’m so glad I found out about the whole cockygate thing through your Facebook post! It was the most evil/infuriatingly exciting scandal ever. I mean, it’s bad to feel like this, but I just took out my popcorn and watched it all xD I couldn’t believe it was happening. But you know what I feel is kind of sad? That we won’t find out the end. Cause when something stops being viral, people just sort of let it go – and it’s a shame, cause I’d love to know if they manage to get the TM office to drop her TM off the list (I mean with the petition) – that would be interesting to find out, but we probably won’t – cause it’s not viral anymore.

And your doggos are adorable as absolutely always 🙂

Oh! Thank you for sharing my post!! <3 I'm so glad you found the spreadsheet useful.

    • Actually, the author (former IP lawyer) who has filed an opposition to the trademark keeps posting about it on his Twitter account, so you can still follow if you want to. I felt so bad for the one author who changed the title of her book, and even more so for the one whose books disappeared from amazon for a while! There’s also been a twitter bot created – which has certain key-words it looks for in all new TM that have been requested…
I still have to actually use your spreadsheet – I’m SO lazy these days.

  14. I’m so happy you’re feeling better, wifey. Stress…it just isn’t good for us! I’m dealing with quite a bit myself. I’m happy that school is almost done for the year. Sky got home last Sunday so that was nice. Anyway, happy you got some great looking books. I’m itching to get quite a few of the same *Cocky* books. 😉 I’m a little envious of your ARCs too. I want Eight Goodbyes. *grabby hands*
    Chat soon, darling! {{{BIG HUGS}}}

  15. ah i love your little gift exchange present! that is such a cute idea 🙂
im currently organising a book swap with my book club.

hooray for so many cocky books ;D
