We are fast approaching the end of the year 2012 (and who knows – maybe even the end of the world :O) Top Ten Tuesdays is a fun meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we share our excitement for books – either upcoming books or as this week, favorite books I’ve read by authors whose books I hadn’t read before. So without further ado: the Top Ten books by authors that were new to me and that I was most impressed by in 2012:
- Brenda Novak – I love her Whiskey Creek series, and I am not so sure I would have ever found her books if it weren’t for the fact that I’m blogging. For the time being, two full novellas and one prequel have been released, you can find my reviews for When We Touch, When Lightning Strikes and When Snow Falls by clicking on the title.
- Donna Cummings, she writes very humorous contemporary romance, and I loved her I Do… Or Die!
- Shiloh Walker; yes, I hadn’t read any of her books before this year, and I was thoroughly spooked by Stolen.
- Beverly Kendall writes pretty hot historical romance novels, and those are right up my alley when I’m in the right mood 🙂 Sinful Surrender is the first in The Elusive Lords series, followed by A Taste of Desire, All’s Fair in Love and Seduction and An Heir of Deception.
- Marissa Meyer; I have only read Glitches which is the prequel to the Lunar Chronicles, and I look forward to reading more by this author in the future.
- Roxanne Snopek writes contemporary romance as well, and her Three River Ranch touched my heartstrings in many ways.
- Colleen Hoover completely blew me away this year! She introduced me to slam poetry and even motivated me to write my own! Her two books Slammed and Point of Retreat were extremely poignant, and I both laughed and cried while reading both of them.
- Thomas A. Knight writes about time travel and amazing powers in his debut The Time Weaver.
- Donna McDonald writes very touching contemporary romance about starting over, after a break-up or a divorce, and I really liked Next Song I Sing.
- Last, but not least: Veronica Roth. I loved both Divergent and Insurgent. The characters were strong, and the world-building had me imagining how it would be to live like they had to.
When I started this list, I wasn’t sure I was going to make it to ten, and realized very quickly that was an easy feat! I can’t wait to see what others have to say about this week’s Top ten picks.
Seeing lots of love for Marissa Meyer today! She’s on my list as well. Great picks! I’ll really have to get started on Divergent soon. Everyone’s been telling me to read the series.
– Audrey @ Her Fiction Fix
Thanks for stopping by Audrey 🙂 Marissa Meyer is great! I look forward to reading more of her books. Divergent is excellent, I hope you’ll like it when you get to it.
I’ve been interested in the Whiskey Creek series. Have yet to do it, but I’ve always thought it looked good. And you must do Cinder by Meyer. You’ll love it. It was such a fresh take on the Cinderella tale – and Scarlet is coming out soon…so you won’t have to wait a whole year for the next book like the rest of us! blah. lol. I’m not a patient bookish waiter 😉
I’m very far from being patient when waiting for books myself. I will read Cinder, I just have to read some other books that I already have on my kindle first 🙂 You should definitely try the Whiskey Creek series, I love the friendships as much as I love the love story 🙂
I love a good romance series with great friendships. It’s why I love Nora Roberts so much!
I actually haven’t read any Nora Roberts books yet, I guess she needs to be on my TBR as well?
Well we only share Veronica Roth but Marissa Meyer is on the reading list…should be soon too since I own a copy of Cinder 😀 Great list Lexxie!!
Thanks Micheline 🙂 These lists are making me go crazy! So many books I’d like to read 🙂
