The idea of Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts is to share a quote with food or drinks that showed up in a recent read, as well as if it’s something you think you’d like or not. Please share the title of the book it happened in, as well as the character who ate or drank the special little something you discovered between the pages of a good read. My quote this week is once again from Kerrigan Byrne’s The Highwayman.
“You can take some tarts if you’d like,” he offered.
“Not a chance.” Farah swiped her coins back into her purse and huffed to the door, thoroughly exasperated. Why was it that every time she came close to answers, to truth, she was thwarted by thickheaded men? It was inconceivably irritating.
Pausing, she turned back around. “What kind of tarts?”
“Strawberry.” Frankenstein wiped his hands on his apron and held the tray out to her.
Cursing her inability to refuse pastries, she took one of the bite-sized confections. “This doesn’t mean I forgive you for being a kidnapping criminal.”
“‘Course not,” he agreed.
“Just so we’re clear.” She popped it into her mouth, and instantly butter, sugar, and the tartness of spring strawberries delighted her palate. “Oh, Lord,” she moaned, unable to help herself.

ooh that is a great scene and now you are making me want to do a reread of this one. I simply adored this book so much.
Kidnapping criminal? Well, color me intrigued! And ugh, tarts and pastries are just so good!

I could just visualize the female lead being all indignant, trying to refuse the tarts, but not being able to resists and sighing in pleasure. This quote gave me an excellent visual, and those tarts sound so delicious! I want some!!!
Sounds like a fun book. And yes butter and sugar and strawberries all in the one bite is irresistible. I’d probably moan too!
Ha! This was a funny scene in light of what was happening. I really enjoyed this book, and the subsequent ones in the series.
