Teaser Tuesday - (un)Conventional Bookviews

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB @ A Daily Rhythm. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page

BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
Share the title and author, too, so that other Teaser Tuesday participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers.

Teaser Tuesday #59

Today, my teaser is from Rachel Vincent’s Menagerie. So far, it’s a very compelling story, where the border between human and non-human is blurred, where morality and ethics are not always present, and where Laliah’s life has become a living nightmare!

Menagerie cover - (un)Conventional Bookviews

Menagerie by Rachel Vincent

When Delilah Marlow visits a famous traveling carnival, Metzger’s Menagerie, she is an ordinary woman in a not-quite-ordinary world. But under the macabre circus black-top, she discovers a fierce, sharp-clawed creature lurking just beneath her human veneer. Captured and put on exhibition, Delilah in her black swan burlesque costume is stripped of her worldly possessions, including her own name, as she’s forced to “perform” in town after town.

But there is breathtaking beauty behind the seamy and grotesque reality of the carnival. Gallagher, her handler, is as kind as he is cryptic and strong. The other “attractions”—mermaids, minotaurs, gryphons and kelpies—are strange, yes, but they share a bond forged by the brutal realities of captivity. And as Delilah struggles for her freedom, and for her fellow menagerie, she’ll discover a strength and a purpose she never knew existed.

My Teaser:

Teaser Tuesday Menagerie

Break me? Like a stick for kindling or a pony for riding? Break me like a date, or like a heart, or like a promise?

They could lock me up, but they couldn’t force me to cooperate. Let them sell me – hell, let them kill me. If I’d realized anything since being sold into the menagerie, it was that I had nothing left to lose.

What’s your teaser today? Please share – it’s not as if a few more books on my TBR mountain will make that big of a difference 😉

  1. Ooo… what a powerful teaser. I’ve seen this book crop up several times recently – I’m tempted to add it to my already crazily overloaded TBR pile…

  2. Very interesting.

    Rachel Vincent is VA, right.

No teaser from me this week. It’s good, but not fabulous. (And, honestly, I’m offended by the hypocrisy of the main character.)

      • Ha! I’m still getting author’s mixed up.Rachelle Mead is VA.

Soulscreamers, eh? Yes, some of those are very interesting. I still have to finish that series.

If all the non-essential preaching were removed from my current read it would be half the size. There are scenes that have absolutely nothing to do with the mystery!
