All Fired Up cover - (un)Conventional Bookviews

All Fired Up (Black Halo #2) – Madelynne Ellis

All Fired Up is the follow-up to New York Times & USA Today Bestselling Author Madelynne Ellis’ scorching rock star romance novel, All Night Long.
Ginny Walters always knew her weakness for bad boys would get her into trouble. Her one night stand with Black Halo’s lead guitarist, Ash Gore, was only supposed to be a fun, not the prelude to the sort of relationship that’d scorch holes in her heart as well as her bed sheets. She’d be the happiest woman in the world if Ash wasn’t so determined to keep their connection off radar.
Ash Gore knows girlfriends are bad news for bands, which is why he’s resolved to keep his attachment to Ginny a secret. He and the guys have enough on their stages as they try to piece themselves back together after the band’s split. But when new drummer, Iain Willows, starts taking an active interest in Ginny, tensions quickly mount. Soon, Ash is not only at risk of losing Ginny, but everything he holds dearest–including life itself.

The Life and Death of Sophie Stark cover - (un)Conventional Bookviews The Life and Death of Sophie Stark – Anna North

Gripping and provocative, The Life and Death of Sophie Stark tells a story of fame, love, and legacy through the propulsive rise of an iconoclastic artist.
“It’s hard for me to talk about love. I think movies are the way I do that,” says Sophie Stark, a visionary and unapologetic filmmaker. She uses stories from the lives of those around her—her obsession, her girlfriend, and her husband—to create movies that bring her critical recognition and acclaim. But as her career explodes, Sophie’s unwavering dedication to her art leads to the shattering betrayal of the people she loves most.
Told in a chorus of voices belonging to those who knew her best, The Life and Death of Sophie Stark is an intimate portrait of an elusive woman whose monumental talent and relentless pursuit of truth reveal the cost of producing great art, both for the artist and for the people around her.

A Game of Thrones cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsA Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire #1) – George R.R. Martin

Summers span decades. Winter can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun.
As Warden of the north, Lord Eddard Stark counts it a curse when King Robert bestows on him the office of the Hand. His honour weighs him down at court where a true man does what he will, not what he must … and a dead enemy is a thing of beauty.
The old gods have no power in the south, Stark’s family is split and there is treachery at court. Worse, the vengeance-mad heir of the deposed Dragon King has grown to maturity in exile in the Free Cities. He claims the Iron Throne.

The Fellowship of the Ring cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsThe Fellowship of the Ring (The Lord of the Rings #1) – J.R.R. Tolkien

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In ancient times the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elven-smiths, and Sauron, the Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with his own power so that he could rule all others. But the One Ring was taken from him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth, it remained lost to him. After many ages it fell into the hands of Bilbo Baggins, as told in The Hobbit. In a sleepy village in the Shire, young Frodo Baggins finds himself faced with an immense task, as his elderly cousin Bilbo entrusts the Ring to his care. Frodo must leave his home and make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ring and foil the Dark Lord in his evil purpose.

Both The Fellowship of the Ring and A Game of Thrones are books I have to read for one of my classes next semester… And I have to read them before classes start again – as if I didn’t have enough to do with my papers and preparing for exams.

Did you get some exciting-looking books this week? I hope Santa brought you some books, or GCs so you can get books yourself! Also, I hope you’ve had a wonderful holiday so far, and that it will continue to be a good one. Remember to leave me your link so I can check out your Stacking the Shelves and or Bought, Borrowed and Bagged post, too 🙂 Thanks for stopping by! Have a spectacular Saturday.

    • I think I’ll enjoy Game of Thrones, but it’s a huge book, and I have many other things to work on before classes start again 🙂
      Have a wonderful weekend, Grace!

  1. Fantastic haul, Lexxie! I read A Game of Thrones this year. It was great but it took me three months to read it because I was buddyreading it with a friend LOL. And someday I want to read The Fellowship of the Ring. Someday…

    Happy Reading!

    ~Stephanie @ Bookfever

    • I wish I could read Game of Thrones on my own time… but I have to read both that and the Fellowship of the Rings before classes start again in February.
I do look forward to reading them, though, Stephanie.

    • Sadly, I’ve started the Fellowship of the Ring several times, and never made it very far 🙁 I hope I’ll be able to actually read it for class.
      Thanks for stopping by Kyra.

  2. This is the first I’ve heard of the Black Halo series. I need to check that one out. I love the Game of Thrones show, but I just can’t imagine reading the books. They’re so intimidating to me. But, I have heard nothing but amazing things, so I hope you enjoy them!

Check out my StS and 12 Days of Giveaways!

    • I’ve already read the first in the Black Halo series, Kim, and it was quite good. I hope I’ll enjoy A Game of Thrones, too – it’s funny that so many other bloggers (other than you and me) are so intimidated by those novels!
      Have a great weekend.

    • I hope The Fellowship of the Ring and A Game of Throne will do it for me – I don’t like too much when I’m being told what to read and when 🙁 Have a great weekend, Melliane.

    • I actually already have the audiobook – but I need to have the written version just to highlight things for class… maybe I’ll try listening to it first, Melanie, thanks for the tip!

    • *whines* I want to decide on my own when to read Game of Thrones, Brandee! But now my professor has made me read it very soon. All jokes aside, I’m happy I will read it very soon, but I had truly planned on reading mostly COYER books for the duration of the challenge. I need to figure out how much I paid for the audiobook way back when – maybe I can still make it count.
Have a great evening, my dear. *BIG HUGS*

    • Yeah, especially because I know we are going to do some close reading analysis of the language, the plot or the point of view… while I love my classes, the reading experience is very different, Lola 🙂 And I already had Game of Thrones on my TBR list, I just hadn’t planned on starting it so soon.

    • Those books are for one of my MA classes ‘Romance and its Remediation II’ . In RaiR I, we looked at a lot of medieval poems that actually started the romance genre way back when, and then we read poems and novels through 1971 – a huge period to cover. And we looked at what is different now, and what is ‘needed’ in a literary work to call it romance the way it was in medieval times.
I can’t wait to start this new class, and I love the professor because she’s not afraid to use popular literature. For her it’s all about good writing, not when it was written 🙂

  3. Wow. What class are you taking where RotR and GoT are required reads? That’s kinda cool. Although, I tried reading GoT after watching the first season and I couldn’t get into it. It was too long for me. Probably didn’t help that I knew everything that was going to happen. I hope you enjoy them though.

    • It’s for one of my MA classes in literature 🙂 I haven’t watched GoT, so I’ll be going in blind.
Have a great week and a happy New Year, Kristin.

  4. Oh my, I wish my uni required readings had involved A Song of Ice and Fire and LotR XD I still haven’t read ASOIAF so it would have been perfect! I hope you enjoy both of those Lexxie, though I agree that that’s a lot of reading on top of all the rest of your school work I’m sure.

Congrats on all these goodies all the same though and I hope you had a wonderful Christmas 🙂 xx

    • I haven’t read any of those yet either, Micheline, and I have never watched the show, so I’m going in all blind 🙂
      Thanks for stopping by!

    • You should come work for a degree in English literature at the University of Geneva, Bea 🙂 We have lots of really cool classes, and I’m really happy about that. I have started reading LotR several times, and never got through all those long family trees at the beginning… I will have to make it now 🙂
Have a great week, and all the best for 2015!

    • I’m so happy to hear you’re enjoying A Game of Thrones, Krystianna! That makes me feel more optimistic about having to read it before mid-February 🙂
