Stacking The Shelves #29 – A Very Good Week

Stacking The Shelves, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

Participating in Stacking The Shelves has helped me to keep better track of books I’m adding to my huge TBR pile every week, and I think I have gotten a little better at not adding too many books every single week. Participating in this blog-hop has also introduced me to more new blogs, and some weeks, I add more books to my ‘might-read-one-day’ shelf than I should, but before I actually have the books on my kindle, nothing has been decided yet.

Netgalley ARCs:

Dirty Wings cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsDirty Wings (All Our Pretty Songs #2) – Sarah McCarry

Maia is a teenage piano prodigy and dutiful daughter, imprisoned in the oppressive silence of her adoptive parents’ house like a princess in an ivory tower. Cass is a street rat, witch, and runaway, scraping by with her wits and her knack for a five-fingered discount. When a chance encounter brings the two girls together, an unlikely friendship blossoms that will soon change the course of both their lives. Cass springs Maia from the jail of the only world she’s ever known, and Maia’s only too happy to make a break for it. But Cass didn’t reckon on Jason, the hypnotic blue-eyed rocker who’d capture Maia’s heart as soon as Cass set her free–and Cass isn’t the only one who’s noticed Maia’s extraordinary gifts. Is Cass strong enough to battle the ancient evil she’s unwittingly awakened–or has she walked into a trap that will destroy everything she cares about? In this time, like in any time, love is a dangerous game.

Paperback Purchases: because I was in New York last week, I couldn’t resist buying two paperbacks – they were so pretty!

The Book Thief cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsThe Book Thief – Markus Zusak

By her brother’s graveside, Liesel Meminger finds her life changed when she picks up a single object, partially hidden in the snow. It is The Grave Digger’s Handbook, left there by accident, and it is her first act of book thievery. So begins a love affair with books and words, as Liesel, with the help of her accordion-playing foster father, learns to read. Soon she is stealing books from Nazi book-burnings, the mayor’s wife’s library, wherever there are books to be found.
But these are dangerous times. When Liesel’s foster family hides a Jewish man in their basement, Liesel’s worlds is both opened up and closed down.
In spuerbly crafter writing that burns with intensity, award-winning author Markus Zusak has given us on of the most enduring stories of our time.

Hollow City cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsHollow City (Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children #2) – Ransom Riggs

The extraordinary journey that began in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children continues as Jacob Portman and his newfound friends journey to London, the peculiar capital of the world. There, they hope to find a cure for their beloved headmistress, Miss Peregrine. But in this war-torn city, hideous surprises lurk around every corner, and before Jacob can deliver the peculiar children to safety, he must make an important decision about his love for Emma Bloom.
Hollow City draws readers into a richly imagined world of telepathy and time loops, of sideshows and shapeshifters – a world populated with adult “peculiars,” murderous wights, and a bizarre menagerie of uncanny animals. Like its predecessor, this second novel in the Peculiar Children series blends thrilling fantasy with never-before-published vintage photography to create a one-of-a-kind reading experience.

Remember to leave me your link so I can check out your Stacking the Shelves post, too 🙂 Thanks for stopping by! Have a spectacular Saturday.

    • I haven’t read it either, Bieke, but I still couldn’t resist the paper-back of Hollow City.

      Thanks for stopping by.

  1. Book Thief was so impressive and now I’m just dying to see the movie adaptation. 🙂 I still haven’t the first book of Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children series – I have to change that soon. Great haul! Enjoy your weekend!

  2. I should get round to seeing the film they made of The Book Thief, I really loved the book. I’m curious about the Ransom Riggs books, too… I hope you enjoy them!

    • *sigh* I didn’t realize it was part of a series either… It would help a lot if they included that information on Netgalley. I have been approved for books in the past, where I didn’t understand much at all because I had no idea who the characters were…

      Thanks for stopping by, Kim.

  3. Great haul! I loved Miss Peregrine but even though I have Hollow City I still haven’t read it. Will have to go and look at Netgalley now to contemplate requesting Dirty Wings though I’m trying to stop myself getting anything else from there for a few months!

Enjoy your new books and happy reading 🙂

    • I actually haven’t read Miss Peregrine yet, but now I have more incentive to do so.

Dirty Wings is the second book in a series, so I will have to hurry up and read the first one before I start it. I wish Netgalley would let us know the series every time…

Thanks for stopping by, Fi 🙂

    • I agree, I’m very excited about it, even if I haven’t started the series yet 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by, Chrissi.

    • I know! It is really, really creepy. I need to start with the first book, though 🙂

Thanks for stopping by Cayce 🙂

    • It looks so creepy, and there are lots of vintage pictures inside. I can’t wait!

Thanks for stopping by, Luna 🙂

    • Yeah, I really look forward to reading The Book Thief, too. But not straight away, I need some light reads until UNI is over in four weeks.

      Thanks for stopping by, Jaclyn!

  4. Marilyn

Some good additions there. I try not to add too many books to my shelf either each week. I usually try to keep it to three. This week I was very good and managed to keep it to one.

  5. Yay for The Book Thief! Sky just finished Ms. Peregrine’s today – I don’t know if she knows there a sequel. I’m glad you picked up some print books. That’s always a nice thing to buy on vacation…in my opinion. 😉

I’m glad you’re back safely. I can’t wait to catch up. 🙂 **BIG HUGS**

  6. Absolutely gorgeous haul Lexxie!! I adore the cover for Dirty Wings and need to get into the series asap. The Book Thief is another one on the wishlist and I actually just read a wonderful review for it 🙂 I’ve heard wonderful things about Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children so I hope book 2 will be just as good! Happy reading ^^
