Stacking The Shelves #11

Stacking The Shelves, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

Since I started participating in Stacking The Shelves because I figured I really need to keep better track of books I’m adding to my huge TBR pile every week, I think I have gotten a little better at not adding too many books every single week. Participating in this blog-hop has also introduced me to more new blogs, and some weeks, I add more books to my ‘might-read-one-day’ shelf than I should, but before I actually have the books on my kindle, nothing has been decided yet.

If You Stay cover - (un)Conventional bookviewsIf You Stay (Beautifully Broken #1) by Courtney Cole

Summary: 24-year old Pax Tate is an asshole.
Seriously.
He’s a tattooed, rock-hard bad-boy with a bad attitude to match.
But he’s got his reasons.
His mother died when Pax was seven, leaving a hole in his heart filled with guilt although he doesn’t understand why. What he does know is that he and his dad are left alone and with more issues than they can count.
As Pax grew up, he tried to be the kid his father always wanted; the perfect golden boy, but it didn’t work. His dad couldn’t overcome his grief long enough to notice and Pax couldn’t keep up the impossible perfect façade.
So he slipped far, far from it.
Now, he uses drugs and women to cope with the ugliness, the black void that he doesn’t want to deal with. If he pretends that the emptiness isn’t there, then it isn’t, right?
Wrong.
And it’s never more apparent than when he meets Mila.
Sweet, beautiful Mila Hill is the fresh air to his hardened frown, the beauty to his ugly heart. He doesn’t know how to not hurt her, but he quickly realizes that he’s got to figure it out because he needs her to breathe.
When memories of his mother’s death resurface from where he’s repressed them for so long, Mila is there to catch him when the guilt starts making sense. Mila is the one…the one who can save him from his broken troubled heart; from his issues, from the emptiness.
But only if he can stop being an asshole long enough to allow it.
He knows that. And he’s working on it.
But is that enough to make her stay?

If You Leave cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsIf You Leave (Beautifully Broken #2) By Courtney Cole

Summary: 26-year old Gabriel Vincent is a badass hero. Or he used to be, anyway. As an ex-Army Ranger, Gabe never thought he needed anyone. But after one horrible night in Afghanistan scars him in a way that he can’t get past, he needs someone who can help him heal…even if he doesn’t realize it.
25-year old Madison Hill doesn’t need anybody…or so she thinks. She grew up watching her parents’ messed-up abusive relationship and she knows there’s no way in hell that she’s ever letting that happen to her.
They don’t know it in the beginning, but Gabriel and Madison will soon develop a weakness: Each other.
But Gabriel’s got a secret, a hidden monster that he’s afraid Maddy could never overcome… And Maddy’s got issues that she’s afraid Gabe will never understand. They quickly realize that they need each other to be whole, but at the same time they know that they’ve got demons to fight.
And the problem with demons is that they never die quietly. Before We Fall cover - (un)Conventional Bookviews

Before We Fall (Beautifully Broken #3) – Courtney Cole

Summary: Sometimes, one dark moment is all it takes to turn your world black…
For 24-year old Dominic Kinkaide, that moment took place on the night of his high school graduation. One dark incident changed him forever. He’s a hardened actor now, famous in the eyes of the world, but tortured in his own. He doesn’t care about much of anything, except for losing himself in the roles that he plays.
23-year old Jacey Vincent doesn’t realize how much her father’s indifference has affected her. She is proof that sometimes it isn’t one specific moment that wrecks a person, but rather it’s an absence of moments. She’s like a bird with a broken wing-strong yet fragile, as she tries to float through life, finding acceptance in the arms of random guys, one after the other… to fill the void that her father left in her.
Until she meets Dominic.
After jaded Dominic and strong-willed Jacey are thrown together, his secret and her issues create a dark and damaged energy that will soon turn their attraction to each other into an explosive storm.
Even though when the clouds have cleared and the dust has settled, both of them are almost obliterated… they’ve learned a priceless lesson.
Sometimes, before we fall… we fly.

Bayou Heat Collection - (un)Conventional BookviewsBayou Heat Collection 1 by Alexandra Ivy
This series is about shapeshifters, and I saw many good reviews of different books last week, and since the first six books were only $4.99 for kindle, I figured why not? I have no summary to go with this, I can only find those for the individual books.

Reaver cover - (un)Conventnional BookviewsReaver (Lords of Deliverance #5/Demonica #10) – Larissa Ione. I had Reaver on pre-order, and was happy to see it arrive on my kindle this week!

Summary:WARRIOR OF HEAVEN
Reaver is an angel with a past, a record, and a less-than-heavenly attitude. Powerful enough to fight alongside the fiercest battle angels-and crazy enough to risk his wings on a one-way mission to hell-he’s agreed to go where no angel has ever gone before…to steal the most seductive and dangerous prize of Satan himself.
ANGEL OF HELL
Harvester is one of the Fallen, a once-heroic angel who sacrificed her wings to work as an undercover agent in hell. But now her cover has been blown, and she’s been doomed to an eternity of agonizing torture. Even if Reaver can snatch her away from Satan’s lair, even if they can fight their way out of the underworld’s darkest depths, there is one thing Harvester can never escape-her newfound thirst for an angel’s blood…

Fracture Me cover - (un)Conventnional BookviewsFracture Me (Shatter Me #2.5) – Tahereh Mafi – also on pre-order – and also very happy to see its arrival

Summary: As Omega Point prepares to launch an all-out assault on The Reestablishment soldiers stationed in Sector 45, Adam’s focus couldn’t be further from the upcoming battle. He’s reeling from his breakup with Juliette, scared for his best friend’s life, and as concerned as ever for his brother James’s safety. And just as Adam begins to wonder if this life is really for him, the alarms sound. It’s time for war.
On the battlefield, it seems like the odds are in their favor—but taking down Warner, Adam’s newly discovered half brother, won’t be that easy. The Reestablishment can’t tolerate a rebellion, and they’ll do anything to crush the resistance . . . including killing everyone Adam has ever cared about.

Immortals cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsImmortals (Runes #2) – Ednah Walters – yet another pre-order.

Summary: Nothing can stop Raine Cooper when she wants something…
Raine finally knows that her gorgeous neighbor, Torin St. James, is a legend straight out of Norse mythology, and that her feelings for him are strong. Torin is crazy about Raine too, breaking the one rule he lives by: Never fall for a mortal. The problem is he no longer remembers her, his memories erased by Norns—Norse destiny deities—to punish her for defying them.
So Raine comes up with a plan…
She will make Torin forget his one rule a second time and fall in love with her all over again.
But she quickly learns that well-laid plans do not work when dealing with deities and supernatural beings. Desperate, Raine makes choices that could not only tear her and Torin further apart, but lead to the destruction of everything and everyone she loves.

Slack cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsSlack (A Rook and Ronin Spinoff) – J.A. Huss for only $.99 I couldn’t resist to get a little something about Ford in advance!

Summary: Ford Aston is not too picky about what he wants out of Christmas. He’s not into this holiday—like at all. He doesn’t do presents, or family dinners, or parties, or church.
He does pets. And he’s got one lined up for Christmas Eve. In fact, it’s the highlight of his day. And if he can get through drop-in visits, nosy twelve year olds, an inappropriate conversation with his best friend’s girlfriend, dinner with a family that’s not his, and a party at his mother’s house—well, he might just get home in time to enjoy himself with a stranger and make it all OK.

What did you stack your shelves with this week? Please leave me a link below so I can come check it out – you just might have some books that will end up on my shelves next week 🙂

Thanks for stopping by! Have a spectacular Saturday.

  3. Almost all of these books are pretty new to me, Lexxie. I am only familiar with Tahere’s Fracture Me. But OMG, those are a lot of books. Are you even planning to sleep? I’m going to guess, you’ll be spending your Norwegian Christmas doing reading marathons. Hahahaha.

    • Eh, I am thinking there won’t be much reading done while I’m in Norway! There will be lots of eating (remember my picture of the juleribbe?) and talking and having fun with the family 🙂

But I really wish I could get a few more hours every day – that would be the perfect Christmas present 🙂

Thanks for stopping by, my friend! <3

    • YAY! I’m sure I’m going to love Reaver, too, Michelle. I need to make sure I’ll find the time to read it before too much time passes.

    • I’m really happy you love CC’s books! I am looking forward to those. I wasn’t completely blown away by Rune, but I enjoyed it enough to want to read more 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by Ellen.

  4. I’m reading Shatter Me this week! I’m really excited/nervous about it because people have said such mixed things about the first one. Still, I love those covers. (Even though mine is a dorky UK edition, or something, because the girl is wearing a puffy dress instead of the awesome eyeball.) Happy reading!

    • I really enjoyed Shatter Me, but the prose is very different, so I know some readers who had a little trouble getting into it 🙂

Good luck! Thanks for stopping by Cait.
