Stacking The Shelves #9

Stacking The Shelves, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews, is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

When I started participating in Stacking The Shelves, it was because I figured I really need to keep better track of books I’m adding to my huge TBR pile every week. At the same time, I also think it’s a great way of connecting with other bloggers. So come on in, and see what books I picked up last week :

Netgalley ARCs:

Defy cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsDefy (Defy #1) by Sara B. Larson

Summary: A lush and gorgeously written debut, packed with action, intrigue, and a thrilling love triangle.
Alexa Hollen is a fighter. Forced to disguise herself as a boy and serve in the king’s army, Alex uses her quick wit and fierce sword-fighting skills to earn a spot on the elite prince’s guard. But when a powerful sorcerer sneaks into the palace in the dead of night, even Alex, who is virtually unbeatable, can’t prevent him from abducting her, her fellow guard and friend Rylan, and Prince Damian, taking them through the treacherous wilds of the jungle and deep into enemy territory.
The longer Alex is held captive with both Rylan and the prince, the more she realizes that she is not the only one who has been keeping dangerous secrets. And suddenly, after her own secret is revealed, Alex finds herself confronted with two men vying for her heart: the safe and steady Rylan, who has always cared for her, and the dark, intriguing Damian. With hidden foes lurking around every corner, is Alex strong enough to save herself and the kingdom she’s sworn to protect?

Sweet Revenge cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsSweet Revenge (Sins Brothers #2) by Rebecca Zanetti

Summary: The One Man She Can’t Have
Matt Dean was born to fight…and kill. A member of a secret black-ops military unit, he and his brothers were genetically engineered by the government to be the perfect soldiers with an expiration date. Now, with time running out, he’s gone rogue in a relentless quest for the one person who can save them. His mission leads him to Charmed, Idaho…and to a beautiful woman with eyes like emeralds and a body made for pleasure.
The One Woman He Can’t Resist
Laney Jacobs knows the mysterious, handsome stranger is trouble from the moment he walks into her bar, looking for a job. She’s spent years running from her own past—the last thing she needs is a romantic entanglement. But Matt’s strong arms offer her protection, and his gentle touch promises passion unlike anything she’s ever known. As lethal forces surround them, revealing explosive secrets about Matt’s past and putting everything—and everyone—he holds dear in danger, can he save them all before time runs out?

Flawless cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsFlawless by Jennifer Sadera – my review is scheduled for 12 December 2013.

Summary: Nobody’s perfect. Except Lia Copeland. She’s flawless. And worshipped. And hated. From her perfectly proportioned figure and enviable bone structure to her instinctual talent for clothing design and cavalier attitude, Lia’s the woman every other woman wants to be and every man wants to have. Catapulted from sigh-maker in the high-school halls to superstardom in the fashion world, she makes it look easy. A girl like that has everything; every reason to be happy. Then why does Lia Copeland just want everyone to leave her the hell alone?
Behind the dazzling light of Lia’s successes is a dark tale of fear, betrayal and confusion, leaving her with unfathomable anger–and so many questions. Chief among them: why is apathy threatening to take over her life? She forces herself to look to both inside and outside sources of the problem, leading her through a maze of emotions and relationships as she carries out her quest.
From the friends of Lia’s youth–her best friend, Maddie, her tragic kinship with Doug, the tangled love triangle between her, Doug’s cousin, Chad, and her pal, Wilson–to her later-day bond with her mentor, Jade, and therapist Ruth, Lia discovers the necessity of friendship and forgiveness in order to reach a life-affirming resolution.
A story about the choices made in the wake of travail and tragedy, it explores relationships with all their messy and marvelous moments and magnifies the beauty, wonder and endurance of first love.

Kindle Purchases:

Mind Games cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsMind Games by Kiersten White (only $1.99) I loved her Paranormalcy series, so I had to get Mind Games now that it was so cheap.

Summary: Fia was born with flawless instincts. Her first impulse, her gut feeling, is always exactly right. Her sister, Annie, is blind to the world around her—except when her mind is gripped by strange visions of the future.
Trapped in a school that uses girls with extraordinary powers as tools for corporate espionage, Annie and Fia are forced to choose over and over between using their abilities in twisted, unthinkable ways…or risking each other’s lives by refusing to obey.
In a stunning departure from her New York Times bestselling Paranormalcy trilogy, Kiersten White delivers a slick, edgy, heartstoppingly intense psychological thriller about two sisters determined to protect each other—no matter the cost.

    • Thanks Chelsea. I can enjoy a love triangle if it’s well done, and the summary sounds really interesting, so I hope I’ll enjoy Defy 🙂

      Have a great week yourself!

    • Oh no! I hope I’ll enjoy Mind Games anyway… but it’s better to DNF than to force ourselves to continue reading if we’re not enjoying ourselves.
