STS #51 – BB&B #3

Stacking The Shelves, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews is all about the latest additions to your library – virtual or actual, with books that are  bought, borrowed, won or ARCs  you will be reading soon. BB&B is a homage to to Barron’s Books and Baubles from Karen Marie Moning’s amazing Fever series, and is hosted by Braine over at Talk Supe.

I was pretty good this past week as well, but I did get some nice books from Edelweiss. I have also been very busy with classes, but I like it that way 🙂

Edelweiss ARCs:

You Have to Fucking Eat cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsYou Have to Fucking Eat – Adam Mansbach, illustrated by Owen Brozman

From the author of the international bestseller Go the Fuck to Sleep comes a long-awaited sequel about the other great parental frustration: getting your little angel to eat something that even vaguely resembles a normal meal. Profane, loving, and deeply cathartic, You Have to Fucking Eat breaks the code of child-rearing silence, giving moms and dads new, old, grand-, and expectant a much-needed chance to laugh about a universal problem.
A perfect gift book like the smash hit Go the Fuck to Sleep (over 1.5 million copies sold worldwide!), You Have to Fucking Eat perfectly captures Adam Mansbach’s trademark humor, which is simultaneously affectionate and radically honest. You probably shouldn’t read it to your kids.
Adam Mansbach is the author of the #1 international bestseller Go the Fuck to Sleep, as well as the novels Rage Is Back, Angry Black White Boy, The Dead Run, and The End of the Jews, winner of the California Book Award. He has written for the New Yorker, the New York Times, Esquire, the Believer, and National Public Radio’s All Things Considered. His daughter Vivien is six.
Owen Brozman has illustrated for National Geographic, Time Out New York, Scholastic, Ninja Tune, Definitive Jux, and numerous other clients. He and Mansbach recently collaborated on the acclaimed graphic novel Nature of the Beast, and his work has been recognized by the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles, Creative Quarterly, 3×3 magazine, and many more. He lives in Brooklyn, New York, with his wife and daughter, whose favorite food is bananas

The Dead Wife's Handbook cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsThe Dead Wife’s Handbook – Hannah Beckermann

‘Today is my death anniversary. A year ago today I was still alive.’
Rachel, Max and their daughter Ellie had the perfect life – until the night Rachel’s heart stopped beating.
Now Max and Ellie are doing their best to adapt to life without Rachel, and just as her family can’t forget her, Rachel can’t quite let go of them either. Caught in a place between worlds, Rachel watches helplessly as she begins to fade from their lives. And when Max is persuaded by family and friends to start dating again, Rachel starts to understand that dying was just the beginning of her problems.
As Rachel grieves for the life she’s lost and the life she’ll never lead, she learns that sometimes the thing that breaks your heart might be the very thing you hope for.
Hannah Beckerman gives an unforgettable exploration of love and loss in her first novel, The Dead Wife’s Handbook.

Maeve's Times cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsMaeve’s Times in Her Own Words – Maeve Binchy

Five decades of selected writings from the Irish Times by the beloved and best-selling author, filled with her hallmark humor, candor, and wisdom-a timeless gift to her legion of fans.
Maeve Binchy once confessed: “As someone who fell off a chair not long ago trying to hear what they were saying at the next table in a restaurant, I suppose I am obsessively interested in what some might consider the trivia of other people’s lives.” She was an accidental journalist, yet from the beginning, her writings reflected the warmth, wit, and keen human interest that readers would come to love in her fiction. From the royal wedding to boring airplane companions, Samuel Beckett to Margaret Thatcher, “senior moments” to life as a waitress, Maeve’s Times gives us wonderful insight into a changing Ireland as it celebrates the work of one of our best-loved writers in all its diversity-revealing her characteristic directness, laugh-out-loud humor, and unswerving gaze into the true heart of a matter.

    • When I saw The Dead Wife’s Handbook on Edelweiss, I just couldn’t resist – that blurb is so intriguing 🙂
      Thanks for stopping by, Chrissi.

    • LOL You Have to Fucking Eat was so funny! It’s a very short book, and it’s so good for parents who feel like they’re fighting with their kids to make them eat anything at all 🙂
      Thanks for stopping by, Jessica!

    • Michelle, it’s the perfect book for parents with kids who are picky or hardly eating anything at all! I was laughing so hard – I’ve been thinking all of those things myself when my kids were younger.

      Thanks for stopping by 🙂

    • I think I need the audiobook of Go the Fuck to Sleep, too, even if my kids are bigger now so I don’t have that problem anymore 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by, Lyn.

    • I just couldn’t resist either of those books, they called out to me saying I really needed them 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by.

    • Oh don’t even talk about that fat, Braine, please! I need to start working out again, but I seem to be unable to take that first step and actually just do it, you know?

      Thanks for stopping by!

    • I have enjoyed those I’ve read already, and I have pretty high hopes for the two others, Jaclyn 😉

      Thanks for stopping by!

Block was awesome! The Social Media series just keeps getting better IMO.
