Safe & Sexy #6 – In Harmony

I’ve had the idea for a feature about safe sex for a long time, ever since I had my discussion post with the same name a long time ago! And finally, Safe & Sexy was born. It’s where I will share a quote from a story I have read, and where there is a lot of hotness and sexiness, but where they still take the time to be safe! It’s important to me to read books that make me dream, but I also want them to be somewhat realistic. And to me, characters seem realistic when they take care of themselves and their partner(s)! Safe sex is a great way to do so, and when an author includes a couple of lines to share that they are indeed using condoms, I am such a happy reader. And I think it’s sexy when both new and ‘old’ lovers show that they respect each other by getting that condom, and possibly making using it both safe & sexy, hot and fun.

If you want to participate with your very own Safe & Sexy quotes, go right ahead. The more the merrier, and maybe your quote will help me add a new book to my bloated TBR shelf 😉 One can never have enough books, right? Without further ado, here’s my Safe & Sexy quote for this week, it’s from In Harmony by Helena Newbury. I really enjoyed the whole series this story is from, and found the condom quote(s) to be absolutely hilarious!

In Harmony cover - (un)Conventional Bookviews

Everyone expects her to succeed…
Karen plays the cello like an angel, and it’s the only thing that makes her truly feel alive. But her father’s dream—for her to join a prestigious orchestra—leaves no time in her life for anything but music…not even love. Trapped on her path, she doesn’t know how to rebel.
Everyone expects him to fail…
Connor plays rock guitar like the devil himself, and his ability has got him all the way from a dead-end life in Belfast to a scholarship at Fenbrook Academy. But beneath his arrogance and charm, he doesn’t believe he has what it takes. He’s spent his time in New York drinking and partying, and the only future he sees is a return to Ireland as soon as he flunks out.
But what no one expects…
When Karen’s duet partner is injured, the bad boy guitarist and the shy, sheltered cellist are forced to team up. Neither likes the idea, but what begins as anger and distrust slowly spirals into love…and lust. If they can face up to their feelings, they might just have a chance together. If Connor will allow Karen to stop his fall, maybe he can show her a life she never thought possible…

My Safe & Sexy quote:

“Condoms,” she said. “Got some?”
I shook my head.
“Get some. Get plenty. You’ve been waiting years for this, plus all that time cooped up in practice rooms… it’ll be like a dam burst. Now: sex.”
I picked up a pen.
“Really? You’re going to take notes?”
I put down the pen.
“Okay. Wear your heels.”

This is between Karen and one of her really good friends, and the next quote is when Karen and Connor are alone together after Karen went shopping for condoms. on her own…

I twisted and pulled open the drawer next to my bed. All four boxes of condoms were sitting there, cellophane removed and lids bent back. I looked at him questioningly. He blinked a couple of times. “I’m not fussy,” he said at last.
I passed him one and he ripped open the foil packet. […] “Karen, is it… your first time?” I thought of about a thousand things to say. And then I just nodded. “You’re sure you want to?” he asked quietly. “God yes.” The hunger in my voice was all he needed to hear.
